Thread: An amazing experience. I had to eat my words.

So this weekend I introduced a friend to SWG. Since I had wanted to set up a character for attending Flurry events I set her up with a little Flurry Rodian on my husbands account (my account is already inhabited by a fierce little Mon Cal lol).

Before she started I warned her about jerks, no tipping, afk zombies, the works, and kept an eye on her as I sent Paks about her FS quest business. Two failed quests and three hours later I finally gave up and admitted I was much more interested in what was going on on her screen. I gave advice (okay, LOTS of advice) and at times the keyboard was a bit crowded with four hands playing.

At the end of the weekend what I have to say is... what the heck have I been doing wrong??? Not only did she get tipped CONSTANTLY, but she met a ton of excellent live players, and ended up with a full wardrobe, a house, a ton of furniture for her house 30k tipped specifically for maintenance on the house... she was very gleeful about the agahst expression on my face. I refuse to teach her the meaning of the words "pwn'd" or I may never hear the end of it.

So tell me - do Rodians really have more fun? Or do Flurry people just rock?

I really shouldn't have been surprised I guess, seeing how I had a very similar experience on Bria. Tons of great live players, amazing generosity, and constant fun. On Bria however, all the great people who helped me out were fellow Entertainers - on Flurry they were just the regular people!

There was, of course, the jerk. To my shame it was a wookiee. At that point I took over the keyboard and let the evil Paks out. I never truly appreciated how totally three tiny female dancers could totally kick the ass of some combat jerk, with words and emotes alone. I took lessons on how to be nastily nice lol! And made sure to /addignore and /denyservice before I gave the keys back (okay before they were torn out of my clinging fingers).

My friend had played with me before, about a month after launch we both made ents on Valcyn. That was in Theed before the afk scourge and it was a weekend long party. I was a little nervous about having her back playing again since things are so... different. But really, it just proved that no matter how bad things can get all it takes is a few nice players to make all the bad stuff seem like nothing at all.

So thank you Flurry ents (and company) and thank you to a great Entertainer community in general who make this such an amazing game (and now hopefully my friend will stop talking about intervention ).

I recently created a new character on Bloodfin ... I have a combat specialist on Bria and dont care to mess with her setup, so to play with entertainer and the relaxation that comes from it I went elsewhere...

Within 3 logins I had 2 houses, membership in a guild and a city, maint paid on both houses and 30k... another few logins and I am now almost up to 100k in cash (after spending prolly 30k in clothing, my one weakness ), have been given several deeds for harvesters, a stack of deliciously high quality steel (which is nice since I am dabbling in artisan for supplemental income)...

The key here for me seems very plain... I am -there-

I have received 10k and 20k tips from people who where shocked that I was there and I said hello and chatted with them.. even some of those tips from people who were there using a buffbot and not healing with me... one session ended up with five of us all ATK, all talking with people and greeting them the instant they made it into the doorway...

So its not just flurry... its people who are tired of seeing zombies shaking their virtual booties in the cantina..

There aren't a lot of them, but they DO exist...

Plus, keep in mind that our "clients" these days all have several million credits in the bank, are members of cities who are fighting for residents, and have dozens of harvesters left over from their crafting grinds. I've given away tens of thousands of credits to people for little else then not having a need for them myself. Houses are basically free just for moving into a player city.

Material gifts are not as valuable to me as a simple complement. My PvP is getting people to thank me. Not easy, since I don't buff.

Material gifts may not be as valuable to you as a simple complement... BUT, material gifts -are- an acknowledgement that they are watching YOU and not that zombie 4 meters over from you... and -that- is my point...

There -are- people who look for live entertainers... I noticed it again last night... consistantly as soon as people saw me talking my healing XP would crank back up again.. I maintain a bit of chatter going on that is clearly not AFK macro spamming (which is annoying)... I greet people that come within range of me... if they answer I try to strike up a convo with them.. several times last night people stayed and talked long after they were done healing...

I also sheparded a new entertainer with some of the basics and got her trained in a couple skills and the BEST part of the evening was when she said "I started playing this so I could do stuff with my husband and you know, I am starting to like this"...

She at one point asked how to get people to watch/listen and I explained that talking to people worked best... and proved it by immediately getting two more people to start using my healing services..

lead by example people... learn to accept that you wont get as much XP if you dont run as a zombie... but that your experience will be far more fun if you are there and talking and interacting...

Plus, the more we push the player interaction on our own, the less likely we will be -forced- to accept interaction al la the ID interface and timers...

I've played on Bria off and on for some months now, more off than on. When I came back (cause I am totally bored with primary toon on other server), I talked to players coming into Mos Eisley's Cantina, they expressed shock cause 1) I was at keyboard, and 2) others expressed shock when I thanked them via Email for their tip.

Then it was my turn for shock. I was tipped huge amount and I like to have choked to death, breaking fingers switching back and forth between my mail and inventory checking amount of tip.

People, if that is the thanks I get for being ATK, I'll always be there, to best of my ability.

Aryla being ATK and being outgoing are the key. I am amazed at the ATK players who don't interact so appear AFK. One young lady even set a tip request macro. I explain and explain that being outgoing is the key but it's hard for some people. I'm in a small group on Saturday and Sunday with several novice entertainers and they are talking in group chat about money. I start explaining again while greeting everyone that I could and chatting with people. In those two days the ATK but silent performers got little to no tips while I made over 250k plus what I made buffing. There was one point where one of the musicians actually participated in a conversation I started and got a 10k tip of her own. I was so pleased to see her reaction and her change in attitude about paying attention to the customers.

I haven't played on Flurry, but I have to say I've been bowled over by the warm reception I have had on Bria. Javier gave me clothes, Kirah gave me cash, Scip gave me death sticks, Esharra gave me booz..er, milk. Pretty cool.

Don't go on chilastra....Unless you want to meet jerks and self-centered people around everybend. Well there are a handful of nice people that play on chilastra, but most of the people do not tip and only care about themeselves, or make fun of my name

I'm sorry you feel that way, Ronald - I've found lots of great people on Chilastra. And not just the entertainers I already knew, although they have been more than generous. I have wanted for nothing there and get tipped as a novice dancer above and beyond what I get on Bria as a master. And Shianne isn't beautiful or glamorousand doesn't run aroundscantily clad, either. For every little slight I might have felt on Chil, I've had 10 warm huggy moments. I enjoy my time on Chilastra almost as much as I do Bria.

This thread is still around? And it got one-starred??

I think they key to being an ent on any server is being in the right place at the right time with the right people. There are some amazing people out there, if you can find them in the chaff and noise. I feel extremely lucky in all my experiences as an ent - I hope someday every new player who joins can have the same kind of fun and not feel the need to resort to macros or spam. These are truly great professions - but they require great people to really showcase them to their full potential. I'm glad I know so many great people.
