Well, a lot of you saw the controversy about the insults from the person who is now the GCW Correspondent, and between his comments and the swarm of players & buffbots who rose in his support, my first inclination was to finally hit the cancel button. My second inclination was to hit the cancel button, as was my third. By then I'd cooled off enough that all I could think about was hitting the cancel button. Then, I finally remembered that what the GCW Correspondent thinks really doesn't matter. What SOE thinks really doesn't matter either. In fact, the only opinion of me and my playstyle that should have the ultimate bearing on how I feel is the opinion I hold of myself.

At long last, I decided to come up with a list of the top 101 reasons I love being an Entertainer. So, without any further stalling, here it is:

Good grief... Why is it every time we get a tidbit of good news (SOETyrant's post), it gets followed by something simply outrageous?

I'm sorry to hijack your thread. You made some excellent points, andI'd like to add number .5 : Met my soulmate while performing.

I was in the cantina one day, just performing as usual, when along comes this saucy Twi female who started flirting. Of course, I fell back on 'First Rule of the Internet: All females are male until proven otherwise'. It didn't take long for her to get on cam and on phone and have a RL discussion. Lots of flirting, fighting, arguments, makeups, both ingame and RL followed. Then a visit and a move cross several states. (enter happy ever after ending here).

So, without performing as an Entertainer, I never would have met her. And she wouldn't be saying 'awww, how sweet' as she reads this over my shoulder .

On a more grim note, it's a sad state of affairs when a known harrasser with extremely poor social skills and language can become a Correspondant, regardless of how proficient he is (Bootstrap andhis guild are among the best (or worst, depending on your point of view) PVPers on Tempest) at that profession/area of gameplay. I've had run-ins with Bootstrap. Besides his derogatory posts, there are reasons he's on a number of permanent denial lists.

Does SOE even bother to do any kind of a background check on who becomes a Corr other than the posts here by their friends? For example: In San Diego, the Police Dept. not only contacts an applicant's friends and family to find out what kind of a person he/she is, but also that applicant's neighbors and co-workers. You can have all your friends champion your merits all you like. But when the PD gets a survey back from your landlord about your god complex and 'rules don't apply to me' attitude, they seriously reconsider having a person like that join the Force. Granted, a follow up interview is always a must, just to insure you didn't get the one person that you happened to piss off, but even that one voice is heard and merits a closer look at the applicant.

Perhaps, when choosing new Correspondants, it might be a good idea to solicit input from the people each applicant spends time with. IE: the people of his/her server. I suggest a server wide email. If you have no input, simply delete the email. If you have something to say for or against the applicant, then every voice should be heard, not counted.
