The devs have previously expressed their desire to make SWG Entertainers not like Bards in EQ etc. I agree with this sentiment. Bards are combat characters. Entertainers in SWG are meant to be social players mainly, but this is a completely new play style for a mixed playstyle game (i.e. Sims Online has only social play style and no combat play style). The struggle Entertainers have currently is figuring out what our role in the actual game mechanics should be as social players. In other words, social players still need a method of making money, and more importantly their presence needs to be wanted by players that are not necessarily interested in the social play style.
So in short, I would not welcome a change that directed us "out of the cantina and into the fire."
It is good to have a fresh perspective from time to time though, so thanks (and of course my word is not any kind of sealed thing
).

I agree in full with you, I was only saying that they should have a choice if they wanted to go out and do something other than hang out in the same place day after day. But I can see how those who like a social play style wouldn't care to leave the comfort of the cantina.
I will say that I think they need to add more content for you guys, content of some sort, but i'm not a Dev so I have no idea what that might be. As it is now there are only so many place you can go to find an Ent, then over half are AFK, so when you actally want to talk to someone to get a buff or chat, they are dead to the world. As it is though if AFK guys go away I might never be able to get healed or buffed unless I'm in C-Net.
Ok well, thanks for letting me crash your fourms for a min, and thanks to LeBob for the super quick reply.
Rock on Ent!!!!

you're welcome!
and to clarify... I did not mean to say that I want us to be stuck in a cantina or theater all the time... just that I would not want to pick up an active role in combat as a trade off for it...
there are many many other things we could do, I think... such as player created content... but that's not really in the game as of yet, so..... but hopefully some day : D

Hello,
I was thinking, as some of you are no doubt aware, there are some games where someone with music or dance skills goes along with a combat group, while others fight they play thier music or dance for a boost to the team stats or to decrease the mobs stats.
My question is, is this something that you guys are pulling for or want? I would love for ent to become a part of a combat group and play a role. Of course those that choose to could still rock out in a cantina and do all the same stuff they do now
Your thoughts?
Thanks-

well, from what i am told about the days after launch you would have hunting groups of maybe 10 people with about 1 every profession
EXAMPLE: 2 ranged combatants, 2 melee combatants, 1 medic/doctor, 1 scout/ranger, 1 dancer, 1 musician
this group could travel, adventure, and do high-end content all day and never have to go back to town for anything. When the combatants got beat up and the medic was about to pass out from mental exhaustion the scout throws up a camp and the entertainers go to work patching up their buddies. and when the medic was back in shape their wounds were healed as well. uh, i'm not quite sure what i was inteding by posting this but i am sure it had some relevance at the time i though of it.....

Well, I *could* imagine a new Hybrid Profession, a Troop Musician or something like it. The requirements could be Music and Healing from the Entertainer's tree, as well as either Exploration or Survival (from the Scout's tree) or Ranged Support (Marksman).
Said branches could lead to the "Troop Musician" (for lack of a better term) which I could imagine akin to the Squad Leader, although with abilities different enough to justify a new class...

I think the "bard" role and the entertainer role could and should both exist. I like rowlyyk's idea of a hybrid profession to acheive this. Perhaps some skills from entertainer, scout, and squad leader are needed. I think there is a role for both and would enjoy using my musical skills in the field to help.
The big problem with field support today is that it isn't needed. With swoops and player cities you are rarely far from a permanent facility so downtime isn't a real factor anymore.
