I am sorry to day, that as Novice Entertainer you wont get the
droid to work. You can start using the droid at Novice Dancer
level. Then you rightclick and see things like "Access Effect
Module".

2.
Entertainer missions just are for entertaining NPC.. or nastier
even empty cantinas. You get a waypoint in front of a cantina,
but you have to be actually in the cantina the get the reward.
You are expected to perform (dance/music, depends on what you
have choosen) for about 10 minutes without interrupt. Best
payout is 200 cr.

Novice Musicians (and higher)may also activate the effects in droids with the appropriate modules.

I funded about half of my training to Master Entertainer from gig missions on Chimeara. Then I gave up and started doing Artisan missions for training money. I had no upkeep for any structures, bought almost no clothing, and only needed to get a few instruments. So while it may be better than nothing...gig mission payouts are about as effective to 'live' off of in SWG as tips, which is to say not at all.

I did most of my leveling on Chimeara in an almost-always empty cantina in Doaba Guerfel. So there was no one around to teach me, and no tips even when there was someone to heal. But it also meant that I didn't have to groupshare my whopping 380-400cr/12 minutes (or so) from gig missions. I just had to pay attention and keep the mission terminal window up (slight exploit, probably) and keep getting them for the cantina I was already inside.

Too bad the process was boring as hell. I went back to Starsider.

On the entertainer missions, the good news there is there are new missions in the works which should be coming soon. They are in testing at the moment.
