Let us pretend, for the sake of argument, that I could create a macro that would do the following:

1. Walk to the Medical Center
2. Get a full set of buffs from a med-bot
3. Walk from the Medical Center to the Cantina
4. Get buffs from a musician/dancer-bot
5. Walk to a Terminal (type of your choice) and search for the highest paying missions
6. Jump on my speeder bike and fly to within 125 meters of the mission (with an adjust for spawn adjusts.)
7. Jump off my speeder bike, run up and complete the mission
8. Jump on my speeder bike and fly back to town and jump off my bike
9. Repeat steps 5 through 8 six times
10. Pause 10 minutes to clear any remaining buffs
11. Repeat Macro from the beginning

Now let's assume that this macro was widely available and all the combat professions started using it. And if this resulted in the mission-bot interfering with live players from getting missions and enjoying thier chosen professions, how long do you think it would take to fix?

Roho.

P.S. This originally started as a response to a separate post in a different forum, but I thought that it stands alone without attacking any specific individual.

That's one heck of a hypothetical macro. I'd like to say it would get fixed ASAP, but then I still see people AFK and shooting crap outside the cities for exp even now.

So I'll state two things.

If what you're getting at is that entertainers (musicians and dancer specifically) are at the bottom of the heap in the developers' eyes, evidence would support that theory, though I harbor hope that it's because they want to change the things that affect the most people first, rather than a perverse desire to see entertainers leave the game.

On the other hand, this development team doesn't seem to much care if half their population is AFK and exploiting the game engine. Whether that's because they truly don't care, or because they're scared of taking away entrenched tools, once things like this get into the game, they don't seem to leave.

So my guess is that the macro you described, if it got onto the live servers, would never be removed.

Actually, I know people who mastered Brawler and even TKA using combat macros. As far as I know, that's still possible. I did UnarmedI-IV a couple months ago the old-fashioned way (at the keyboard), and at that time people periodically offered me macros to do it AFK. I politely declined. Has that macro ability been removed from the game?

This just makes me sad, darling . . . very sad. And I don't think its the hormones kicking in this time . . . its the fact that regardless of whether your conculsion or Javier's is correct, it shows that there are serious problems within the game.

You know, I started in this game on Day 2 (anyone who was there knows that there was no Day 1). The whole macro issue has been a problem since then, and there seems to be little will on the developers's part to fix it. The only time they stepped in to do anything was with Sampling. Most professions can do okay with or without macros, but the unrestricted use of them really has damaged the entertainer professions almost beyond repair. It saddens me that as I return to this game after a long absence, this is still a problem that the devs will not fix for the entertainers. Then I read posts like that troll Phujitiv (or whatever he calls himself) has made on the Dancer boards and I see why: we must not annoy or inconvenience the leet crowd at all.

But ya know what? I intend to have fun this time in spite of leet twits and developer indifference. I will find other live entertainers and dance and chat and act like an idiot all I want to. And if I need money, I strap on my little sandals and deliver mail. But to be honest, when I hit Master Dancer, I very much doubt that I will buff anyone unless they are a friend...why should I? They don't need me and I really don't need them, so I'll just keep myself to myself and dance the night away. Or as a certain brash singeronce put it, **** 'em if they can't take a joke!!!!!!!

Definitely as quickly as possible. We're talking about a very high percentage of people that would be affected by this macro, and alot of uproar.

What bothers me so much is that, like was mentioned earlier, it's not just Entertainers that are affected by this. There are auto-attack macros and auto-looting macros that go on as unchecked as buffbot macros. The difference is that the other macros don't affect the livelyhood of their professions as much as it affects ours. We're feeling the results alot more.

My sincere hope is that after the Combat Balance has taken place, alot of the problems in the combat professions will have been taken care of. This will leave them in a much better position to take a look at the non-combat professions.

I still have hope
