if it stays as-is on test center, you will need at least music knowledge 4 in the musician tree.
the audition quest (quest 1 of many) requires you to play jazz at one point, if you cant play jazz, you cant complete the quest. since the quest is unfinished at a certain point after the audition quest, it is still unknown if it will result in the new instrument or the new song, or perhaps both.
i am still going through the active quests on TC to see where it stops or if it has been completed yet, i am up to the 4th quest(have 20 players listen to you, dont matter where at).
on a side note, quest 3 looks like its not done yet... you play in the theater and the audience(npc's) rates you. you have to rate over 200 in the end, but the rating messages say [TESTING] before them, so it is likely to change before going live.
the 3rd quest also granted no reward, but the first 2 did, so im thinking that there will be 6 quests total with the 3rd granting the song or instrument and the 6th giving the other as rewards.
to list the quests ive done....
1st. audition : you have 30 seconds to get to the theater stage and follow the instructions of the judges... start a certain song when they tell you, do not flourish until told to do so and make sure it is the proper flourish number. you will be asked to /change songs and more flourish instructions.
reward : 500 credits completed
2nd. publicity : you have to get 10 players to listen to you play, it does not have to be in a cantina or the theater, it can be anywhere.
reward : 1000 credits completed
3rd. concert : you have 180 seconds to get on the stage at the theater. during this time you can talk to the npc's in the audiance to get a feel for what song will net you the best points per tick during your timed performance. you can pick any song, but when you are playing, do a full 5 flourishes per tick to gain the best scores. i am assuming that the score system will be changing to force the conversations with the npc's to find out the best song to play. you must reach a score of 200 by the end of the time limit, seems to be about 2 minutes right now.
reward : none at the moment completed
4th. more publicity : you must get a total of 20 players to listen to you, location does not matter.
reward : unknown so far but will update when i find out not completed
5th concert : according the the theater manager, the 5th quest will be a concert again but with more npc's in the audiance. will add more details as i finish it
reward : unknown not completed
there may only be 5 quests, but i have a feeling there will be a 6th one at least... maybe a final instruction following test like the audition that lasts longer and has shorter time limits on following instructions... but this 6th quest is speculation. will keep you all updated.

I don't believe so. I think you just have to get that amount of folks to listen or watch you. If there were a time limit, it'd lead to people just sitting around yelling, "listen to me, I'm on a quest." Not like the new players don't do that anyhow, with the newbie droids lol.
There was a nice gal in Mos Eisley Cantina who was asking people to watch her, and I did. I saw her little green droid following her around. I tipped her a couple thousand credits to get her going, for travelling expenses and stuff. It's so much fun helping new people. Anyways, back to my point - I think the quests work sort of like the newbie droid quests...no time limit, but once you meet the requirements the quest is done.
. I prefer sitting to the side, out of the big group, and chatting. It will get you enough listeners eventually. There are still a few players out there who prefer to listen to an ATK player.
