Thread: Penalized for a non-combat profession?

First off I'm fairly new to the game, only had it a few months. I've been playing around with a few professions and decided Entertainer would be the most fun. After talking to some people in the Cantina, It was to my suprise there weren't many image designers in the world and I decide to focus my time in doing just that. So I start up the chain of skill blocks. Now, since I don't really know anyone, I'm doing this all on my own. So I start by changing my hair. Waiting for the minute timer to count down while in the salon and getting 50 xp per change. OK, time consuming but not too bad. I make the first block. So I work on Image Design 2. Still only 50 xp a change and waiting one minute a per change. It's at this time I become frustrated and agrivated but I complete the block. Now I can fool around with changing my eyes and see I get 150xp per changeBUT have to wait two and a half minutes.

That tells me it's only going to get worse.

Who the hell thought of this concept?

I spent 3-4 hours just to fill 2 skill blocks. In the same amount of time under a combat profession I can fill twice that much and have money to spend.

Why do non-combat professions have to work twice as hard to get anywhere then combat ones?

Sure, I know if I get someone for me to practice on my xp will double, but being new, that's a problem and who wants to just sit there for hours on end waiting for a timer to elapse so they can hit "Commit" and unable to do anything else.

In otherwords you need to shorten the time per change. It's simply rediculous. I can see why no one wants to play an image designer. It's easier to become a jedi.

Are you worried that too many Image designers are going to upset the gameplay?!

"OMG! We have an epidemic of Blue eyes changing to green and people sporting Mohawks. Quick! Increase the duration of elapse time per change!!!!!!"

Before the timer additionit waspossible with the help of a master image designer and a combination of mind buffs to go from novice entertainer to master image designer in less an hour. It had to be changed, granted I don't know anyone who actually plays theskill now that likes the timer length as it is but this is right in line with what was thought of as the acceptable time frame to learn a profession. At the end of beta Holocron posted to the entertainer community that we were what the devs were basing all other profession skill learning curves on. The time it took for us to master had the most straight forward xp grind.

Combat players were never meant to be able to solo the stuff they can right now hence the future combat balance. Using the entertainer professions as the example instead of the exception get ready for an elite combat profession to take the same time tomaster asanelite entertainer profession.

Not much consolation, but grind musician at the same time. While you are waiting for your timer to count down you can be making instruments in practice mode.

Not a big deal but beats sitting there looking at a timer.

OK, to your point on making master in an hour I concede. It's wrong and needed corrected. But their correction has taken a promising class and reduced it to a not so fun time sink. I know every class has it up and downs and it's share of time sinks. And since my first post I've talked to more people and Master image designers. They all agree unless it's something you'redetermined to getor your guild really needs, it's not worth putting the effort into it due to these time restrictions. And I'm seeing their point all to fast. Even a master entertainer told me she abhored raising that skill set.

So my question is: What is really acceptable? Shorter time elapses providing a more enjoyable experience? Or longer ones to preventshorter time ofmastering of a profession whose only real attribute to gamebalance is stat migration while the other skill sets are attuned more to social aspects of the game?

I can tell from your post that you seem to be doing this in the ID tent. But in note to many starting out entertainers I will reiterate:

You get twice as much xp and half as much wait time if you ID self or others in the ID tent than not in the tent.

Two things are helping a friend of mine do this profession and actually enjoy it. The first is finding someone to work with so you can chat as you wait. There are a lot of people out there and some pretty nice ones, make friends and get one to join you.

The second is that she socializes with anyone she works on. Listen to the people entering the tent, often they want something you can do at a lower level. Use the time to make suggestions to them and find out what they are really wanting. Imaji has made several friends and repeat customers just because she is a social person who gives the real impression that she cares and is having fun.

Once you are novice ID you can migrate stats and a lot more people will be interested in actually paying for your service. On Corbantis it is so bad that Imaji gets inundated with tells any time she puts up her novice ID tags. Then it goes faster simply because you feel like you are providing a real service that is in demand.

I did the entertainer tree so I could master entertainer. I can tell you I know how bad it seems but even I had a few fun times, especially when a guild mate or pretty dancer would sit for me for a little while. Use the cantina as a source for finding a helper, perhaps one of those strapping male dancers if you are a lady, so you have some eye candy to stare at while waiting Several people in the cantina may be in the same position you are in.
