Thread: ATTN: Entertainers reguarding AFK and TIPS

Let me start by saying that I am not an entertainer, but I tip them well. I have come across alot of entertainers lately that seem to forget to change their AFK status off when they are at the keyboard.

Example: In Mos Espa, I went to the cantina to heal some BF after being swarmed by Desert Demons. I started watching a group of dancers. One member had AFK on, but I could tell she was at the keyboard. So, when I was healed, I went around the the group handing out tips, including the AFK member. Then told her that her AFK was on, and that for future reference, MOST PEOPLE DO NOT TIP ENTERTAINERS WITH AFK STATUS.

My advice to all of you entertainers: Watch out for each other. If you see a member with AFK on, but they are obviously at the keyboard, let them know. They will thank you for it, as their tips should increase.

I really appreciate all of you people who chose to entertain us. Keep up the good fun.

Thank you

Sorry about the huge paragraph. I had small ones in my message but the board blocked it all together.

I make it a habit to notify people that their AFK flag is on and that it discourages tips. If I am leader I will kick anyone who goes afk for a long time.

I never dance while afk. It is simply rude to accept a tip while others are at their keyboard flourishing away and earning the tips that I might be getting.

As a dancer I always think of my fellow dancers.

All is fair in love and war!

*****************

Personal comment:

I HATE afk'ers, if there entertainers. Your there to Entertain...If I wanted to watch an NPC Id go look for one.

*****************

Whats to stop the AFK'ers from Turning OFF the AFK status ? and then setting up a nice big macro and walking away for the rest of the evening to watch TV.

Get round that one!

on a side note, for players wanting to macro all day/night read on

Its easy to do

* music mistro please*

/join

/startmusic;

/startmusic Songname;

/your choice of flourishes untill you fill out most of the page;

/join;

All they need to do with something like the above , is come back to the PC once in a blue moon and click the button, This will automatically /join them into invited groups, flourish them , start music , or join in to the bands music. All in one foul swoop

To make it even better. use the /load txtname.txt command

Yea yea, I know /load alias macros cant loop, but there are ways round this

*make yourself another macro with a nice Big pause*

/load txtname.txt; /yourcommandnametoplayallday; /pause 2000; /yourcommandnametoplayallday; /pause 2000

Ect ect ect

This will make your character continually play / join / and even start music on there own if not in a team

*********

Macros, the SOE way

*********

Way to kill the game!

Making a /load textname.txt macro

Start notepad

enter in your macro commands as you see fit

save the textname.txt in the SWG main directory

In the game make a macro or just type /load textname.txt to Fire it up

Where I play there is nearly always a group of 15 people or more at night, so inevitably there are a few AFKers at any given time. I don't know what the problem is... if someone wants to tip someone who hasn't spoken a word to them, that is their business. Our only rules for grouping are that you wear clothes and don't spam, especially for tips. If you wanna afk, it really doesn't affect anybody but yourself.

As for tips... I am one of the few people, if not the only person, who sells instruments on the bazaar in my city. Every few days I'll put about 10k worth of instruments up for sale, and they are sold within 2 days. Seeing as I rarely have to pay for training, that lasts a long time. Consequently, I don't find myself greeting everyone who comes through the doors like I maybe did when I needed tips desperately. We always do a lot of /groupchat talking, but I'll talk when there are good people around... I just don't talk for the sake of trying to get money anymore.

I think while entertainers are coming up through the ranks it is understandable that they will be afk often... I mean, they've put macros in the game and made it way too easy for everyone to be afk often, so why shouldn't they be?

I agree Entertainers that go AFk should not be tipped....I also somehow do get tipped when I go afk....like above I NEVER kick out anyone for AFK status...look at this way..if a customer walks in an listens to the AFK member ....If you have kicked them out your robbing yourself of healing XP and possible tip money cause they might just give it to the macro.....it just my view of the issue....if someone is going to go AFK in the main performing area ...I prefer them to be in the group...if they are just macro grinding for xp...please leave the group...go off in a corner or out of the cantina entirely and grind xp to your hearts desire

Sorry I kind of missed addressing the original post in my reply. My point is that most entertainers I know aren't hurting for credits like when we started. Training is almost always free from a friend at this point, maybe a few hundred credits (which is the equivolent of one good tip), and the only thing dancers need to buy is new clothes and shoes. Musicians generally have someone around that can make a new instrument for them if they provide the resources, and as long as they spend the 100 credits and take up novice artisan, it costs nothing to get the materials. Consequently, most entertainers just want to get xp right now so they can get out of the cantinas and start focusing on entertaining and putting shows together.

Secondly, I just want to address something else. If someone is macroing for xp why wouldn't you want them in your group? The group xp still goes up for every person performing in the group, and with 2 or 3 AFKers that adds up fast. I guess unless you were just being greedy and wanted to make sure you got as many of the tips as possible (which, if you were talking to people, you'd be getting anyway), I don't see your motivation... other than jealousy because you have to sit and punch keys while someone else is macroing. (btw, I don't go and watch tv while I play or anything... I have a macro that flourishes for me, so I can chat with my friends... but I don't mind people that do afk whatsoever... that is between them and SOE.) So, I recommend the philosophy "Thanks for the bonus xp!" and mind your own business. (not meant to be rude, just the way I see it!)
