Thread: You are already performing bug
Ever since I joined a group and participated in a band at a cantina my character has been bugged. Whenever I try to play my instrument, I get the message, "You are already performing," and nothing happens. Plus, I sometimes see music notes streaming out of my avatar when I'm standing around doing nothing. It's as though the server thinks I'm constantly playing music.
This bug is sticking like glue. Logging in and out is of no help.
Anyone ever get this problem?
The only way I've been able to clear that bug is to log out of the game for 15 minutes. 15 minutes gives enough time to clear the character from the server. Once I'm clear I've noticed that then I no longer experienced that bug.
Most of the time that happens when you're not playing (but still holding) an instrument and someone in the group issues a /changeband command. In fact, under those circumstances, it always happens.
But I have seen it happen once with the /startband command while someone was sitting (only time I ever saw it happen that way, though).
15min logout has always cleared it up for me as well.
The /changeband command is buggy in many other ways as well. I try to get folks to just avoid using it altogether.
Actually, that's not true. I have two accounts and always /sit and /logout with both of them. They never clear right away and always sit there for at least a few minutes with the (LD) over their heads.

First, you need to logout long enough that your character is no longer sitting there with the (LD). It should be long enough for your char to vanish from the game.
Second, this bug starts with /startband. Particularly, it starts when you MOVE during the introduction to a song (which occurs after the /starb command). This is why you should never use /startband, particularly if one of the musicians is walking around.
I know there is a way to clear it in game, and it involves sitting and standing and patting your head and rubbing your stomach, but I don't know exactly how it's done cuz I haven't ever gotten the bug lately.

Okay, I'll tell you the right way to clear this bug. I do it all the time and it hasn't failed me yet.
First off, this almost always starts when someone joins the band and is playing a different song than the rest of the band. (Yeah, the game isn't supposed to allow that but that's another kettle of Mon Cal.) Someone does a /stopband (/changeband is a culprit in this also). When the band stops, the maverick now has his tune coming out of his belly button.
Here's how you clear it:
- Everyone in the band has to stop playing if they haven't already.
- Maverick (i.e. the stuck player) has to use "/startband stuck-song" where stuck-song is the name of the song they're stuck playing. Nobody should be hitting any flourishes at this time. It won't really hurt but it just confuses the issue.
- Once everyone in the band is playing, Maverick needs to execute "/stopband". Once the entire band stops, Maverick will also stop and things are back to normal.
This approach has never failed me. If multiple people are stuck, then just repeat the procedure for each stuck person.
Spread the word. It's not hard to do once you walked through it once.
