Thread: Do you write music? Why?
(As promised elsewhere, here is the thread. hehe)
Ok, I'm wondering how many of you "write your own songs" (via macros, etc) with the music system currently in the game.
My thought on the subject is that having a band consisting of every instrument type, but only one of each instrument, is all you need to do, in fact should do, to develop the best possible sound or "song". I say this because when you are bandflourishing it is the equivolent of an entire band playing the same thing, which frankly, if that's all a band does... sucks. You will be out of original material in a matter of 8 flourishes. However, since all of the flourishes follow compatible chord progressions, a band which is flourishing randomly will still produce harmonically pleasing sounds, while also creating hundreds of additional possibilities for a song. To add to this, if everyone plays the base song for a little bit, allowing one person to "solo" by flourishing, you can create some great effects. Also, have various instruments drop out and stop playing (/stand is the best way to stop playing during a song, since /stopm will play the tag, which is dissonent to the standard pattern and will sound bad) from time to time, randomly even.
It's really really hard to sound bad playing this way, since if you only have one instrument per part you won't have any clashing parts.
I don't use standard /bandflourish # to write songs, I also type in what instrument is to play this flourish, so i can control the whole band within my macro, and not having everyone playing at the same time, but being able to have the backup playing the standard rhythm with a bit of floes, but the focused instrument playing more.
One of every instrument is good, but still there are also benefits of having two of one instrument and one of every other... And some songs, don't go well with all instruments, but only with a few, there is a lot of things you could do to get a unique sound on every song. But having two of one instrument gives that instrument higher volume, this can be used in your song, to bring focus on that instrument instead of every instrument seems to have the same focus.
Example: StarWars2. F4, F4, F2, F2, F5, F3 or switch to F3, F5, depending on choices.
This gives you and the band a well-known popular riff in the song that makes it the song everyone has heard over and over again. During the time that the riff is not playing, then people improvise, but having a few of these in key songs makes them signature pieces that the common listener will recognize.
So, really, song writing is a mix of a few chorus macros that the band plays together, and improvisational things that the band members flourish on their own.
