Thread: Command: changebandmusic

You all may know this already, but I've run into a few ingame who didn't, so I thought I'd post it here (and cross-post in the "silence from Devs" thread since it came up there too).

The /changebandmusic <song name> command works seamlessly and continuously. You don't need /stopband and /startband anymore unless you're supporting AFK macroers. I've been testing it the past few nights and it seems the following is true:

  • It works

  • Anyone in the band can do it. It will blend the next song onto the end of the current one. Better, it does it smoothly.

  • It only affects those already playing. You still need /startband otherwise, which is why this won't prevent the game dumping AFK macroers who forget to unclick auto-timeout.

  • It works in groups of 2 to 20.

Hope this helps.

I cross-posted this in the Musician forum as well:

Unless it was changed and I have not read about it yet. The /changebandmusic command i believe is our old friend the /change command. It is a bugged command that was supposedly fixed in the big patch. When you use it in a group there are two drawbacks.

#1. Everybody starts playing with the same instrumental sound as the person who initiated the change. This is the Exp bug as any beginner can have the same exp gains as a master if the master does the change. If they stop playing and restart with /startm on the same song they lose the exp. This command can be really funny if a beginner musician tries it because then everyone including the master gets their exp gains. So unless this has changed and you still play a slitherhorn of a Fizzz i would not bother doing the /change command, as the person next to you on the Ommni Box may /bonk you on the head.

#2 You can still get permaplaying music from the /change command if you are sitting down with an instrument in your hands and someone does a change. Its easy to fix but is still a bug.

Maybe I am wrong and the devs snuck in a fix or the /change command and the /changebandmusic command are seperate commands. But to my knowlege the game defaults to the highest command alphabetically from the fragment you type.

I've long since stopped using the /change command I either use /changemusic when alone (in Hospitals mostly ) and the /changebandmusic in cantinas. Good points about /change though, so I should add:

  • /changebandmusic lets those players change to the current song and keep their current valid instrument sound.

  • The XP gained is per player per instrument, as it should be.

  • It won'tgive a System Message that says who can't play the song though. So far, only /startband does that.

Wierd.......how did i miss this command? So to be straight we have a /change command a /changemusic command and a /changebandmusic command? Lol this is getting complicated.......

Ok so /change is dead like the dodo. Maybe i should try other combinations of words to see if we have more commands out there lol why do we have to discover all this without any guidance from the devs? Is this supposed to be what we spend our time on in cantinas? lol

I can see it now.....SHH don't let the musicians know wht they can and cannot do....they have plenty of time to figure it out own on their own ROFL

The /changebandmusic command does work...unless of course it causes the entire band to becombe bugged. I did it once and every band member had to relog because they got bugged...no one could stop playing or start playing..it was kinda ugly..taught me not to do that again

I used the /changebandmusic command tonight and it made everyone play the same sound. Seems it is just the /change command with more letters to type.

On Bria, at least the times I have recently used the /changebandmusic, everyone started sounding like Nalargons, even the Slitherhorn player. Group members reported getting 70 experience playing a Traz as well. Don't think this is really fixed yet, and if you're a Rodian or Bothan endless playing machine, its at best an exploit if you keep it going forever.

Yea, this is wierd now. Last night in Anchorhead I was running into the same thing. When I did /changebandmusic it made everyone sound like an Omnnibox, except the guy on the Nalargon. This plus you guys make me think it makes everyone sound like the instrument being played by the player who invoked the command.

But in Naboo Keren and in my PA Hall on Corellia, this wasn't the case. It let everyone continue playing their instruments. The people I was grouped with here though were all my level or MM.

Idle speculation, but maybe us all could test when we get a chance.

Maybe it makes players of lesser proficiency sound like the player who invoked the command while it doesn't affect people who are over their level?

Thats all fine and dandy, but it is still broke and frankly i prefer to stop the music. When playing with my band we dont just drone on endlessly that gets boreing and annoying after awhile.. we play the songs for a little bit ( I have a set 4 macros i play 3 out of 4 of them) then stop the band everyone bows/curtsies and we move on to the next song. This method works very well and my band usually makes around 50k (to the whole band not each) a gig. I find changebandmusic to be mostly worthless unless you are playing a (darn if i can remember the name of it where you do one song that ties in several other songs with a running theme)then you would still only go about 4 of my macros before ending the song bowing and going back to the next tune.
