Thread: Instead of denying service, how about...
Adding a new ability for those with Entertainment Healing IV:
Focus: This ability allows an entertainer to focus their performance on one individual. That individual has a focus icon placed over them while watching or listening to that performer and their battle fatigue and mind healing becomes more rapid. Entertainers cannot use this ability on themselves. (Musicians, Dancers, and Master Entertainers can use this ability more effectively)
The way I envision this working is that it gives the dedicated entertainers the ability togain more tips. They can choose to use it only on the best tipper, and theobvious icon above the head ofthe customer lets everyoneknow that they are the ones who tipped the most, motivating them to tip more to get more attention. AFK entertainerswould not be able toeffectively use this ability.
Let me know what you think. My apologies if this has been proposed before...not enough time to read all the posts.

Oh, and I'm not against entertainers having the ability to deny service. I just realized the thread title may have sounded like that. I just think more needs to be done to help entertainers than just the ability to deny service.

Nice idea but if there watching a master they will heal real fast without needing that anyway, another idea though would be..
the more the person tips the faster the healing because there dancer/musician plays better
or something like that ![]()
You may be right Rekush, and making tipping someone that your are listening or watching to gain a bonus heal to battlefatigue and mind wounds (scaled to how much you tip) seems much simpler. But that doesn't discourage AFK entertainers...it will encourage them.
The issue of healing speed is a strange one. Some people think that healing faster encourages tips...others think it discourages them because their is a perception that there is no effort involved. IMO, making mind healing slower only encourages customers to go AFK. They do that already. AFK entertainers are only part of the problem. AFK customers can't tip you, much less add fun to the cantina scene. Healing too quickly may or may not encourage tips, but it certainly doesn't help populate the cantinas, and the cantinas are not populated enough. (At least not with people at their keyboards)
There needs to be interaction between the customers and entertainers in cantinas to make the entertainer profession interesting and the cantinas (and hotels and theaters)fun places to be. Right now it's too passive. I entertain...the customer tips..maybe. Maybe we talk, maybe we don't. Maybe both of us are AFK.I don't think we should be forced to be at our keyboards every minute, but those of us that do (both entertainers and customers) should be rewarded for it.
I think asystem where customers compete with each other for the best healing by bidding for it with tips would be the most fun solution for everyone. If someone wants to AFK entertain or /watch or /listen...they can still do so...they just won't prosper as much as those of us actually playing the game.

I like your focus idea...it's one I brought up back in Beta as a way to avoid AFK Entertainers. It would make it so that ONLY the person the entertainer is focused on gets the Mind Wound healing. BF would of course go down as long as they listened/watched an entertainer but the Wounds would only be healed by active participation on the part of the entertainer.
But that didn't go anywhere...heh.
Your idea works too...and can be implemented in the Elite Entertainment Professions as well by allowing them to focus a mind buff on a player.
In the novice profession, you would get the ability to focus and thus heal a person a bit faster then normal. In the Elite profession you would get the ability to buff a person.
Sounds like a good trade-off to me...
Oh, and I wasn't proposing /focus *enhance* the mind pool, just that it could be used by an entertainer to quicken healing on one customer. I think the mind enhancments are cool as they are....they just need to have longer durations, IMO. The current system encourages AFK customers, who don't tip or make things more fun, and doesn't add enough value to promote tipping for it. Whenever I get a mind enhancement it alwaysseems to run out before getting to my mission...even if I get the full 30 minute buff.
But I'm giving up entertainer soon anyway, and don't yet understand enough about the elite entertainer professions, so I'll stop theorizing/speculating for now. The profession is fun, but to really enjoy it I'm going to have to create an alt on a different server someday. I have too many friends that I like to hunt with to do it justice, and it drives me nuts that I can only play 5songs.

My thought was that the overall rate of healingbattle fatigue would have to go down a little for all entertainersfor /focus to matter, but not much. It still takes longer to heal mind damage and battle fatigue than action and health, and I'm against making it take too long...just encourages AFK customers which is not desirable. Perhaps you master entertainers, musicians and dancers heal BF faster than I've experienced though...and it is healed too rapidly for it to matter. If that's the case, you guys just need better Mind enhance ability to get tips. I would tip a large amount for a mind enhance that lasted long enough to completea couple of missions.
Additionally, I still think that anyone who is watching or listening, not just the person focused on, should still be healed (unless the entertainer has specifically denied them, but that's another thread)just not as quickly as the person focused on...and perhapsnot as quickly as they are healed now.
As far as entertainers in the wild, well they can't heal battle fatigue, so maybe focus should just apply to battle fatigue, and wouldn't be needed to rapidly heal mind wounds. I was primarily thinking of the cantina environment, not camping in between battles. Encouraging tips in camps wasn't the point anyway.
