Thread: Fame A Perk for Players at the Keyboard
Instead of hurting or disabling AFK entertainers how about giving a bonus to those who actually play and interact with others?
Fame. Think of a system like faction points. Every time an entertainer does something non-macro to a customer he/she gets a point of fame. And it can't be the same customer twice in a row and it can't be someone in the entertainer'sgroup. This eliminates a macro to get fame points.
Off the top of my head, let's saythe way to get fame is"/greet" or a new command "/charm".
Fame points could then be spent on temporary perks (temporary so they won't rest on their laurels and become a has-been).
These perks can be
1) Special clothes, usable for so many play sessions
2) Special vehicles (when they are available)
3) A visible aura around them when they are not entertaining
4) Special pets, either NPC bodygaurds or animals
5) Trade in their fame points for credits (perhaps limited to when they buy something on the bazaar)
--- So what do you guys think?
The idea of fame could be interesting. I like the idea. You'll probably never get perks, but how about this.
It could be a real simple idea of keeping track of the how many people have selected you for /listen and /watch and how long they did. The more people that are noticing you, the more your fame goes up.
This would not really do much of anything, but a searchable field somewhere that would allow you keep track of who's got the higest on your planet and/or server.
Then, if it dosen't change for a month, it starts degrading.
This of course should be implemented after they disable AFK entertaining, which I'm sure is around the corner.
The NPC bodyguard idea, now THAT'S cool. Some big, tough, sunglasses-wearing leather-jacket tough-guy brawler that jumps into any rebel-imperial conflict that happens in the cantina to protect his famous employer...
Unfortunately it still in my opinion doesn't address the macroing issue. Some things that would help with the macroing issue are as follows:
- No exp for surveying or scout/ranger macro camping if the system detects you are AFK for more than 30 minutes.
- The difference with entertainment that should be noted is while they are AFK and performing, they are still providing a valuable service to everyone else that needs healing. One solution is for the system to disable the ability of the automatically-detected-as-AFK people from receiving tips, cut their healing effectiveness to 50%, halve the healing exp and dance/musician exp and suppress any output to spatial chat (/say, /yell, /shout). Sorry, I know I'm proposing a nerf, but the people that want to socialize and perform and actually entertain, using creativity and their keyboard should be heared and should be tipped. I want to hear them. I don't want to hear the wanker playing Star Wars 1 and Entertainment Healing II for 19 ours keep telling me to tip him every 180 seconds - especially annoying if I'm actually in there performing!
- Check my thread on Proposed Improvements. A way to set a flat rate charge for the group you are about to watch with a confirmation dialog that pops up is interesting, although it might cause division and rate-wars (a Master Dancer can outheal 4 novices and could do better on her own, but the viewer doesn't often know what quality of healing he's getting). Maybe an effectiveness rating could be displayed at all times depending on if everyone is dancing or if only a few are dancing.
- The idea of this Fame system is rather cool, very similar to Faction points. However, the devs want everyone to role play and interact, not just entertainers, so I don't think basing it on pure interaction will cut it. Detecting manual keypresses or clicks to activate flourishes as opposed to a macro might be the solution.
What I'm proposing is a perk to those entertainers who are active on their keyboards. Will they necessarily be role-playing? No, but how is the system going to check that?
I am a part-time dancer who left a cantina where everyone was listening to an AFK master entertainer who did not have her AFK flag on.
I would like it if such people changed their ways, but I'm not going to propose nerfing them when it should be possible to give a little bonus to those of us who are at the keyboard.
How would the system figure she was AFK with no flag? Are we going to /report people who we think are doing this?

I think this already exists (without a game mechanic) as a perk for non-AFK musicians.
Amen... I was thinking the same thing.
Perk: respect
That is what you all crave so badly after all isn't it?
hmm, you guys may be right for the long run. Right about the respect.
It just bothered me that people were listening to and maybe even tipping an AFK player, instead of me and my partner who were actually greeting and conversing with the audience.
I'm not saying it's a bad idea to add something to the game that rewards you for being at your keyboard...I think that is a much better idea than punishing you for being AFK.
