Thread: Cantinas a lost cause?
This game was designed with the mindset that players would come to cantinas to heal their BF. Musicians would be there because they get XP and tips from people healing. BF cannot be healed anywhere besides specific buildings and player buildings.
How is this working to make the cantinas a gathering of players, who meet and interact? It's not. It has failed. Cantinas are filled with resentful folks who wish they didn't have to heal BF, and entertainers who aren't even playing the game.
If AFK macroing is not "nerfed" they may as well let us heal BF in camps, so real entertainers can have some fun again.
I am a lot more optimistic than you :-) From what I read the AFK problem is a top priority for the developers and I really expect them to nerf AFK macroing.
What I don't expect, but what would be very nice is if they would also nerf AFK listening by adding something interactive to the process of listening to a song and watching a dancer :-)
In any case, a game is only as good as its players. Maybe there should be a better way to easily recognize unresponsive patrons and lazy entertainers. Like the HELPER flag maybe a "Socializer" flag would be nice. Hmmmm... Why do I never see the "Roleplayer" flag above the heads of player characters?
Anyway, compared to any other game the cantinas rock :-) Just go to AO and check out the completely empty Entertainment District :-)

That's not hard

I hope so. I don't know if they want to please their userbase or make this game how they envision it, but I fear that AFK supporters outnumber us. At least it seems that way in the game.

There isn't a Role Player flag. The option you select on your CTRL P screen is just for the search filter, so people can search for role players.

Definately agree...let's hope it stays that way

Where did you read that?
Between Ravenmist, NewJedi, and myself, they're certainly aware that it's a top priority for us. ![]()
They merely attempted to nerf AFK sampling. If the AFK musician/dancer nerf works like that then it won't stop anything.
Something is bound to be done though. The cantinas are obviously a problem, so either fix the AFK or fix the fact that we have to use cantinas to heal BF.
For the sake of argument, Wemi, part of what you're seeing might be peculiar to the culture of Kettemoor. My noob dancer was treated very differently there than has been the case on Chilastra or Sunrunner, and I was very puzzled by this. I definitely left there with the impression that if you don't 'belong,' Kettemoor isn't a very friendly place.
As stated, this has not been the case on other servers. Over a couple years of EQ, certain servers developed personalities--SolRo, for instance, definitely picked up a 'bad' personality by the second year of its existence. This usually comes from the high-level players and their methods of interpersonal relations, which tends to filter downwards.
If an entertainer is more interested in XP pharming, or chatting with their clique--their fave master musician, their favorite image designer, their favorite friends, popular players--than they are with developing the experience for noobs or cantina visitors, then patrons are likely to resent the fact that they have to deal with these people.
Nobody who interacts with me leaves the cantina disgruntled that they have to deal with me. I know how to give players a good time and it isn't hard at all. And if I have any say in the matter, you WILL be interacting with me!
Something may be developing on Kettemoor that doesn't seem to be happening quite as badly on other servers I've been on.
Something is definately developing on Kett ![]()
Nothing like that though. I don't see any elitism and it's not the case that I don't belong. Due to RP events I am very accepted on the server. The problem is the people who aren't there.
Maybe there aren't AFKs on other servers, but I highly doubt it.
