Thread: Tips for Training
With this guideline, you get a skill at 1/10th the cost of having it formally trained by a trainer and in ten trains that musician or dancer has broken even on their costs.
Is making money off other players so bad?
Would love to hear opinions

I don't mind people not tipping for training. I usually didn't pay full price for it myself anyway. However, once I get up to Novice Dancer I may ask for donations ifI train someone in a higher up skill. However, I will never require it. I make enough money in tips for me to be comfortable.
Although, I do try to tip if someone trains me. Or if I had trained them before and they returned the favor, then I just figure we broke even. Hehe.
Yes, dancers do make enough enough in tips, typically. Musicians ... not so much.
Not that I'm upset about this, I mean who garners more male attention, a dude in the back blowing a horn or a gal in front seductively-clad and friendly. That's just the way it is, and frankly I like it that way. hehe, at least I don't have to negotiate my way through creepy tells from guys who want more then a dance and a smile.
But why should people expect something for free that cost someone several thousand to earn. If I want to learn how to play guitar, I take lessons. Unless that person is my friend, I have to pay for that service.
At 1/10 the price it seems like a bargain.

I agree, Jolo.
And think about it this way. If you train in an upper level skill, dancer knowledge I for example, and tip the player 1000 credits, she/he is further along in creditswhen it comes to training for dancer knowledge II. If the higher level entertainers can afford to train their skills because of tips from the lower level trainees, then they will continue to be able to advance, and then train you!
I have actually talked to dancers/musicians who could not afford to train and therefore had to wait. I personally have not yet trained in dancers fatigue healing even though I have more than enough points. I have enough money but I am afraid I won't have enough for dancer knowledge III when I am ready for that.
I usually do not ask or expect money to train those below novice. I appreciate tips from those who wish to be trained above novice and I will remember those people when it comes time to train for the next level. I always offer money to upper level dancers who can train me and sometimes they accept, sometimes they refuse. But one should always ask!
One additional way to get money is take destory mission when you are not doing mission yourself. I have made around 8K when others have destoried my target.
If you are in a PA ask some of the marksman to do your mission and mail or give them locations.
I never charge for training with my entertainer. If nobody has the skill I need I try to find someone I can split the cost with. One of us will buy the skill and train the other. Usually, the person buying the skill pays a little more because they get the apprentice xp when they teach the other.
Although I don't charge, I do appreciate being tipped for the service. If I don't get tipped, I figure they know they owe me one sometime in the future. Most of the entertainers are good about watching each others backs. Its probably one of the closest knit professions out there.
I haven't ever asked for payment for training but as I'm getting up in level my training options slim down considerably. I am well aware who the "best" dancers in the galaxy are and can normally look them up but since I Know they are paying for their training I always tip them and usually a considerable amount.
Once you get above the novice level please please tip your trainers. I give 20-50% of the npc fee to the dancer that trains me in an upper level skill depending on how well I know them and what level they themselves are in skill. I've only been tipped twice for training others above novice and that hurts my pocketbook!I have enough app exp from training newbies that I don't need the app at this point, I just train cause I'm nice and wish people would stop taking advantage of it.
The upper level performers have worked their butts off to get to that level and to get the money to keep themselves trained if we don't trickle up the cash expecting to have the training trickle down is just silly. And to those that haven't left the cantina please realize that upper level training costs 8-10k each and no one (not even the best) makes that much in tips alone.
1. Training should be free for all. If people tip that's great but I certainly wouldn't ask them or require them to do so for traning. If we all train for free, then ultimately it will make the profession stronger.
AND
2. Training is expensive. I pay 6K for a novice musician skill and someone wants it for free - yeah, right. This is a business and nothing in this world is free.
Well, my character, being not only an opportunisitc Twi'lek but also Do-It-Yourself musician won't train folks in musician skills for less then 10 percent but he lets them know that they might find training elsewhere for free. It's a free market, let them get the best price - free - if the want. But that ain't Jolo.
As far as Entertainer skills go, I have yet to require a training fee for that yet, I figure at 2-5 K a hit I can take that loss, plus build up some apprentices who will come asking me for training later.

If someone /gc's looking for a new skill, at least where I come from, they would already have the skill before you could finish asking them for money. You are going to need the apprentice points if you want to master something, double if you want to master two things, you should consider yourself lucky that it will be easy for you to get them being first in your area with a lot of skills.
