Thread: Skill Tree Change Suggestion

I'm sure there may be some diehards out there who like the Entertainer tree as it is but this idea for a change won't alter it all that much, other than make things a little easier.

It occurs to me that the Musician and Dancer skill trees are so similar in style and function that they're just unnecessarily redundant. They both use the /flourish commands to heal BF and Mind/Focus/Willpower wounds ver time. Even thematically they both center around the musical industry. I propose that the two trees be merged into one, keeping all the existing commands, styles, and whatnot. Call them musicians or dancers or entertainers or anything. The specialized top level professional classes can remain the same.

This knocks Entertainers down to three trees: Musician/Dancers/Performance Artist, Image Designer, and Entertainment Healing. To put the profession back into the four tree model, I submit an entirely new skill tree: the Game Master/Event Organizer/Contest Handler.

The Game Master will be in charge of organized contests between other players, submitting results to some kind of in-game ladder & stats list for player bragging rights, crafting of the actual game sets/contest kits, and act as a "viewport" (via /watch) for lurkers to view a game in progress with an anti-laggy 2D interface (hopefully allowing ambient sounds/music still). The contests (and game kits) would be minigames such as Holochess, Sabaac, Pazaak ("Knights of the Old Republic" minigamesimilar to"Blackjack"), Arm Wrestling, or anything else the Devs can dream up. Games can be hosted only in cantinas/hotels, camps, private homes, and guild halls. Any player can host their own mini-game (for practice or enjoyment and UXP for the game maker)but only games hosted by Game Masters will be ranked on the public ladders andonly Game Masters' games can be lurked. Alternatively, Game Master hosted games might also heal battle fatigue and mind wounds either over time or per game won/played.

It's a heck of a lot more interactive than battle wearied players coming in and zoning out afk in the cantinas. Any other ideas? Any suggestions/changes? Any backers?

Oh, I should also mention the ranking lists/ladders or whatever could be easily viewed on any of those blue eye candy monitors found in game that serve no function, you know those blue screens around starports and such. There should be at leastone added to every cantinaand hotel if not there already. Ranking might be planet wide or even galaxy wide.

Don't you want your character to be the one bragging in the cantina that he's the galaxy wide Sabaac champion? And be able to back it up with a ranking list!

Just got back from a long break... the currentgambling scenario... stinks. I don't suppose there are any minigames inSWG yet?

Yeah, I don't hear too much about gambling going on, which is a pity.

The original message was posted before I started reading this forum. It is an interesting idea.

While combining the Music and Dance trees may rub some people the wrong way, it actually does make sense. People tend to focus on one or the other. Some prefer to branch out and tackle both Musician and Dancer. But for those of us who take on one role, we are either 0-4-0-4 or 0-0-4-4. The other performer branch is untouched. So, if that's the case anyway, why not add another Entertainer branch?

The problem I can see with this is that a Musician who practices with a slitherhorn up to level 4 would be able to suddenly perform a Formal dance. A Novice Entertainer couldn't do a Formal, but a skilled Entertainer who never danced could perform the Formal dance very well. It would be odd, to say the least.

One advantage to mixing the two branches is that you have more variety. So you practice your dancing. Now you qualify for the Footloose dance. What's that? You say that Footloose is not Star Warsy? You want to maximize your experience points? Well, why dance Footloose? Why not play an instrument instead for that experience?. Then you can start dancing again when you get Formal.

Sure, being a Gaming Expert may seem incongruous with the other branches. To be honest, unless you're going for Master Entertainer, how much overlap is there between Image Design and the performing?

In the early days, when people crafted chance cubes, I got to enjoy the atmosphere of dancing while listening to people gathered around a table placing bets. One person organized the groups. I'd like to see that atmosphere return.

Love Star Wars, but the few role-players I could find on the servers were outnumbered by powergamers who wanted only l337 l00t and mad skillz. I can't justify paying $15 a month to play a game by myself.
Still cares enough to interject an opinion, though.

Oh but I would really love to be Master Dancer, Master Ent, Master ID AND Master Musician. I say combine the healing trees, makes more sence anyway. Or maybe combine the healing treees and do something good with the extra skill points

Yup, I was also planning on going for Master Dancer / Musician / Entertainer and Image Designer, sadly you are too low on skillpoint to master all 4 entertainment trees, 17 skill points to be precise
