Entertainer Archive
Thread: Large vs. small town observations
I'm relatively new to entertaining, and heck to SWG for that matter. I've found, though, that entertaining is teaching me more about the game, faster, than mindlessly spending hours blasting and crafting away. Thus, I spend more than half of my in-game time entertaining.
Until last night, I had exclusively been in the cantina in Mos Eisley (Shadowfire). I've never fired my blaster, and I've rarely left the cantina. A few days ago, however, I decided that I wanted to make Master Doctor along with Master Dancer. Personally, it seems like a great combo, so for the last couple of nights I've been working on Novice Medic as a result. I needed some med supplies from the bazaar and the nearest were in Bestine, so I went on over to pick them up.
Being in Bestine for the first time, I decided to check out the local cantina. I was shocked to find at least 10 ppl entertaining. It was very crowded. Many were complaining about tips. I joined up and did a little dancing and a lot of healing, and realized a couple of things:
- It is very hard to distinguish yourself from the crowd. There was a lot of chatter going on, and I can totally see how patrons are overwhelmed by the whole thing. Sadly much of the chatter was ent to ent, not ent to customer.
- I can see how big group XP makes dancing in them desireable. I was getting 30 XP instead of my normal 16 when dancing in a small group in Mos Eisley.
- Due to the inability to distinguish yourself, I can understand how tipping goes way down. I mean, a preson walks in, stays for 5 minutes and cures 200 bf. They don't know who to tip, realize no one will know if they never tip, and leave.
In comparison, in Mos Eisley there are usually only a few of us entertaining. I'm quite chatty, and like to actually interact with those that come in. Every visitor will get a Hi and a Cya. And most will get at least one other small talk effort. I think when I'm working the cantina, it's clear that people stay there longer, and are having a good time.
I've found that many of my fellow entertainers rarely say hi, unless they know someone. But this was even more true in Bestine. Among the 10 other entertainers working, I don't think a single other person said Hi when someone new walked in. I mean, how hard is it to say hi?
Another great thing happened last night in Mos Eisley. I was actually chatting with one of my regulars (he's building medic xp), and other than my normal Hi, I had kinda ignored a guy that was also getting a huge heal. As he was about to leave, he said, "What's the biggest tip you've ever gotten?" I replied, "10,000" (which is true, btw). He then tipped me 15,000 credits. I was floored. He said he had 100,000 credits with nothing to really spend them on, and that I was great, and I certainly deserved it.
All of this drivel has a couple of points:
- XP is higher in the big cantinas, but you can't make much money there, so don't complain, you are getting what you should.
- The experience is much better in the smaller cantinas, and with a little bit of effort you can make great money in them.
Anyway, that's my story, and I'm sticking to it.
Cher (Mos Eisley on Shadowfire)
Theed is normally the largest entertainer groups, tips almost non existant
On Dathomir all last night I was the only Musician there, made 25k in tips not the greatest amount of cash but beats Theed by a long shot.
The size of the group can inhibit the amount of tips you get but it doesnt always work that way.
You will have good days and bad days no matter where you go.
