What kind of buffs do entertainers/dancers/musicians give and how is it done? How long do they last and what do younormally charge?

Entertainers (meaning those characters in the base profession) don't get any buffs.

Musicians get musical mind enhancement skill. They have a base value of 10, which goes up as skill is gained in the techniques skill line, topping out at a total skill of 100 at master musician. Musical mind enhancement is a willpower/focus buff.

Dancer get dancer mind enhancement skill. Like musicians, the novice starts with a base of 10 and increases as skill is gained in the techniques skill line with the max skill value at master dancer. Dancer mind enhancement is a mind buff.

The duration and strength of the buff are limited by the mind enhancement skill of the musician/dancer and are determined by the number of flourishes (thus, indirectly, the duration of the performance). A full buff by a master will last about two hours, will approximately double the given stats, and will take about ten minutes of listening/watching to apply. A full buff by a novice will barely change the stats and will last about five minutes.

There are two ways to give a buff - passive and targeted. For the passive buff, a player just needs to be grouped with you and watching/listening as appropriate. This requires a longer performance but it allows you to buff several people at once so it evens out. For the targeted buff, the entertainer targets a character and uses the /setperform command. This buff takes about 8-10 minutes and only affects the targeted player.

It's worth noting that the affected player must /listen to begin receiving the buff and /stoplisten to finish receiving it. The numbers of the affected stats won't change to the buffed value until the /stoplisten or /stopwatch command is given.

Generally speaking, people seem to either give the buffs away free or charge around 1k for them.

I paid a Master Musician to buff my Focus and Willpower last night before hunting. After listening for some time (6 minutes or so) I stopped. The maximum attribute value for each one doubled from 450 to 900 or so. However, during the entire course of the hunt, the actual values never rose above 405 or so.

Is there something I'm not understanding about this process? How does one get the actual value to increase to the maximum? The Doctor buffs I get for the other 6 stats always immediately climb to the maximum value and then continue to work their way up after combat knocks them down a bit.

Any comments or insights?

Comment: Buffs are borked. If you get a buff when a buff is already applied (even if its to another stat like your doc buffs), only the maximum get increased, not the current. Since secondary stats like Focus/Willpower don't regenerate, they get stuck at your normal level (minus wounds and armor encumberance, of course).

The doc buffs don't seem to conflict with doc buffs to other stats, but all others (food, spice, musician buff) only get properly applied when you're unbuffed. Buffs to primary stats (Health, Action, Mind) do sorta work, since after the buff your current value will eventually regen up to the new max.

The devs are working on the buffing problem but it will be awhile yet. It's apparently something fundamental in the database.

Until then, you should only use one buff. Even then you can get into trouble. I used Neutron Pixie for the first time a couple of days ago. When the downer hit, my health went negative, my stats all dropped to practically nothing, and I ended up perma-incapped with -18/1 as my health stats. Fortunately, logging and coming back the next morning (after server reset) fixed it.

Buffs are pretty much borked until further notice. I feel sorry for the chefs out there. It's gotta suck.
