Thread: Are you tired of not getting the tips you deserve?

I have two dancers, at the moment. One is named Lola, who is on Sunrunner, and just recently made Novice Dancer. As her combat profession, I'm shooting to become a Fencer. My other dancer is named Katih, who is on Valcyn, and is also a medic. She's still an Entertainer, but she's come a long way as a medic. My plans for Katih are for her to be the ultimate healer, by becoming a Master Dancer/Master Doctor.

But I've noticed something...no one really tips. Lola, who has obviously had the most play-time, has made less than 10k creds, in tips. (Were it not for the generosity of other entertainers, my tips would probably total less than 5k...but my own fellow entertainers have helped me along.) Katih has made a few tips, from entertainers, for her throwing heals around. Dancing, however, has made her nothing in tips.

So, I'm making this proposition: let us organize a full entertainer strike. We should all go on strike, for 24-48 hours. If you desperately need the experience, dance privately in your home or PA hall or a friend's home and let only those closest to you have access to you, during the strike. For everyone else, we need to let them know that we rely on their tips. I know that I'm not the only one out there who has gone for the dancer/doctor combo and those of you who have definitely understand that it's a combo that needs money. Do we not deserve the tips? Oh, absolutely! We spend as much time as anyone else mastering our professions, so why should we not stand up and let these people know that we could be doing something else, yet choose to serve them and that we deserve to be tipped?

I introduced the idea to some other entertainers on Sunrunner and have gotten them to start spreading the word. My original idea was to shoot for December 1 and, possibly, December 2, as well. Go the entire 24-48 hours without entertaining at the cantina. Show them just how valuable we are to them and how much they take us for granted. Sure, show up in there...but announce every few minutes that, due to the greed of so many and lack of tips, we are on strike and will not be performing for ANY sum of money, until EVERYONE understands how important our role is to them.

Please, let's hear some feedback. Please, spread the word, as not everyone reads the forums. Let's make this real. Let's take a stand and show the galaxy that they need us as much as we need them!

The problem is from what i see is some of you dancers like to dance in the major places. Theed, Bestine, Coronet etc. And as a regualr person who am i supposed to tip?

Im a jedi wannabe so i am playing my instrument and i have made 7k in tips so far. Mostly i got that from playing on dantooine where i was the only game in town. However when i went to Coronet i joined a group that was about full.

So a person comes into a full bar and his BF and Mind wounds are gone in 5 secs who will he tip?

If your in need of money go to Dantooine where you will be the only game in town pretty much. Or i suggest this even though it may not be popualr thing to do but it requires no combat. Mine. You have lots to use start a mining side business if you can afford to. If not then dont worry about it.

But in reality just go to a planet where your not dancer #7 and be dancer #1 on a planet where dancers are rarer.

Going on strike will not accomplish anything, scroll back a few pages in the forum and read the dividedness about entertainer strikes and you'll only hurt yourself in the process when they remember you as the entertainer that didn't want to help them out when they needed a entertainer desperately.

And there's also been a few discussions about going to the remote planets, some people have good experiences (or so they claim) while others, like myself, have visited almost all planets and regretted going there in the first place. Even being the only entertainer I didn't make more then 2000 credits on any of those planets, infact some people just dance to heal themselves and bring their friends while I'm just playing music there and can probably heal them 3 times as fast, I got no heal XP so I knew they weren't listening to my music.

The best way to make tips, IMO, is find a city/cantina you like and stay there, I made lots of friends in Mos Eisley before I left there and income was steady, I noticed the same thing in the cantina I moved to on Corellia, nice people and nice tips.

Another fix might be to set up a tipping system that splits the tips amoung the group evenly.

Let's say you're in a group of ten and the group is tipped 100 credits. A system could be set in place--not too far off from the one in combat looting or treasure huntning--that autosplits whatever money is tipped to that group. There for 100c between 10 people would be 10 credits a pop.

The only problem with this system is tipping someone in a group who isn't a dancer/musician or isn't even in a dancer/musician group. You guys think there might be a workaround for this?

You're welcome to try organizing a strike if you like, but I can tell you now that you're doomed to failure.

There's no way to contact everyone you would need to contact. There's no way to get cooperation among everyone you might need to have cooperate with you. Ultimately, there's no way to prevent healing because anyone can buy novice entertainer and heal themselves.

Ultimately, you will only generate ill will towards yourself from doing this. Do a search of this forum and the musician/dancer forums for the word "strike" if you want to see how such things have fared in the past.

It comes down to this - No-one is entitled to be paid. When an artisan needs money, she runs delivery missions or does easy destroy missions or picks up a survey mission. There's nothing stopping a doctor or entertainer from doing the same. If you can't make a living as an entertainer then you need to try changing your routine or you need to try changing your location. As has been pointed out, you will get great XP in a place like Coronet or Theed but you won't make any money worth talking about because the groups are just too big.

As has also been mentioned, mining is an alternative for just about anyone, though it becomes a second profession if you put any work into becoming good at it.

Ultimately, we can hope that entertainer missions become more lucrative and more interesting.

Also, a lot comes down to interacting and being dynamic for the occasional jackpot. I am one of those that is climbing the musician tree at the behest of the holocron. Prior to this, I was a master Doc and CM, so I interacted with entertainers quite a bit.

In just the past few days I have secured some very nice tips (5K, 8K and 10K) by interacting with people - not just doing songs, but doing dynamic songs. I admit they are complete doggerel - but when people in the cantinawere discussing mounts, a customer mentioned he can't wait to ride speeder bikes - so I modified "Born to Be Wild' to be appropriate - he laughed, told me it was great to see an entertainer singing and dropped 10K on me.

When we have people in the cantina, I do variations on 'The Holocron Blues' where I detail the troubles facing every class eeking a holocron. By tailoring it to my audience, I gain additional tips. (And also the occasional insult, and misunderstanding when folks think I am whining - ut that came from someone who told me to speak English when I called him a poltroon...so I discount it).
