For over a year since the first of us mastered, we have watched as patch after patch tweaks this combat special or that Jedi function. Month after month we have been passed up, gradually forgeting that we were once proud of what we are and thought of ourselves as a dancer, forgeting that once we didn't care about any other profession because we had an art that we enjoyed, that we loved, an art of which we were proud to be a performer.

We healed others gladly, not demanding tips but appreciating those mature enough to understand the social interaction. We suffered the harrassments of those not mature enough to know when to keep their mouths shut and the CSR service that would tell us to just add them to ignore and do nothing else.

We thanked the devs for deny service as it was Something to be able to use against the jerks that there are.

We got excited about the announcement that they would be adding more flourishes to dances, then were disappointed as the dances that were "fixed" were in entertainer and the two lowest ones of the dancer profession. Still we said thank you because, after all, it was Something.

We rejoiced when entertainer buffs were introduced because it gave us something to be important to the combat classes and get paid for ... then watched as most combat guilds and players created doctor/dancer alts to place in cantinas as buffbots to once again relegate us to uselessness for anyone other than players that really want to play a MMORPG and interact with others.

And still we fall unless we carry a weapon that detracts from the beauty and grace of what we do...

I made the post about providing service on September 6, 2003. This was before buffs, the holocron nightmare, and when most of us still had the pride in what we do to look down on AFK macroers. The passive buff and healing process of being grouped with people has killed us even more than the hologrind did by combat players setting up a toon as a buffbot. This is something that won't ever change, most likely ... something we'll have to live with forever.

Perhaps, though, we can change falling, to hope for more than one unique flourish on exotic 3, 2 unique flourishes on exotics 2 and 4, four unique flourishes on lyrical 2, and for exotic and lyrical to be something other than a complete embarrassment.

Musicians NEVER make mistakes, even at novice entertainer ... they never sound like an inept clarinet player ... yet we fall all the way into our glory days as a master dancer and forever, as long as we don't carry a weapon.

So I propose this ... once a day, every day, dance without a weapon until you fall. Submit a bug report. Every dancer, every galaxy. I'm posting this in every galaxy and the dancer, entertainer and musician forums. Maybe I get forum banned, who knows, but I shouldn't. We deserve this, we've been silent long enough. The only way the developers are going to notice is if we make them notice.

Much love to you all,

i fall proudly with my master dancer....

dunno if i'd actually send a bug report. ...my character has a few emote macros about spranged ankles and sore ass... for everytime she goes down. i'm really getting exciting about my dancer now with the new purposed macro change.

now might just very well be the time to be the squeaky wheel.

Moonkat, I loved that post. It's about damn time someone posts something like that! I miss the days in the cantina, When there still wasn't a first master musician, or dancer. We had a whole group and would all hang out. We were the entertainers of Bria. We would throw parties, Have bands, ECT. It was good....Eventually people began to leave, Infuriated by the nonsence of the cantina, I myself had left. Lucky I didn't have to stay in the cantina, Being an Image Designer before dancer. We need more of these people. We are Entertainers, and about time we should start acting like it!

I am amazed that when I finally post this, someone posts about macros being changed. If you have seen, there is an uproar about it in every main galaxy forum and probably most other profession forums beside the entertainers. I will be amazed if it makes it through to being changed. That will change things greatly. I came from playing Ultima Online where you could get kicked and then banned for AFK macroing, so this game was beyond me as to how much people do it to everything, even combat.

We can pray and cross our fingers and toes ... I was starting small, and two hours later one of the biggest problems is announced to go away. It's a case where I'm perfectly happy to be rendered immediately obsolete.

Ya know, I was thinking of this earlier today also. I think musicians should miss a note here and there or something. But I was also thinking there should be some sort of "dancer's balance"/"musical concentration" skill...something that would gradually make the dancers falling or musicians flubbing disappear as we go higher up the skill trees. Sad to say I got the idea of these added skills when I was looking at some skill tapes and tried to think of a skill tape for entertainers that would be valuable besides the mind enhance ones. I'm sure someone has brought the idea up before, and I'm sure there are plenty of people who would rather just not have any entertainers miscues, but it's just an idea I was playing with.

I wish there were some non-annoying way to add a skill component to entertaining so that falling would be a result of user error. E.g., make dancing and playing music a bit more like combat. EQ2 actually plans to do this with its crafting: you sort of "attack" the item you're making, and you succeed or fail in much the same way you'd succeed or fail in combat. It's unlikely such a system could be transposed to SWG without it being annoying, but it's food for thought.

Another alternative might be to add grandmaster levels of dance and music, and to give us choices between fall/mistake frequency and other benefits, such as better buffs or heals.

What a nice post.......

As a novice dancer myself, I do find it disturbing that Master Dancers fall. At least at the master level you should never fall anymore. As far as musicians making mistakes...well we might not, but ever been in the mixed groups when the songs get out of sync? thats horrible enough thank you

Death to the fall flourish!

There is a reason why musician do not play false notes, it would sound horrible. I have often seen dancers fall during a dance, and while it looks clumsy it does not make my eyes bleed.
We all know how bad SW1 is on a slith horn when no floes are preformed, now imagine if there was false notes as well.
That dancers fall is a problem, you should not have to hold weapons to stay upright. Nevertheless, when you have to hold a weapon then try the scout blaster, it is the smallest of all weapons.
Why they pout falls in to the dances in the first place is mind bottling, it is just more work that could have been used on making the floes work for all the dances.
