Thread: So you earned a 100,000 credit tip? Good job! You may have just thrown yourself out of the gam

This is big and something the bluetags have to bring up ASAP! Unless this is handled correctly, entertainers are going to have a lot of trouble staying in this game. This is why I’m worried:

--We get paid through the tip system. We don’t trade goods.

--We can’t afford to tip back big amounts. Who knows if we’ll ever see another tip in days? Its just the nature of the professions. I can’t tell you how many times a 100,000 credit tip from an armour mogul was the ONLY tip I received in a week.

--I would imagine the same people who do this counterfeiting are the same people who run buffbots: multiple accounts, members of “pay to win” sites, etc.

--I would imagine also that any one deranged enough to do this scam would be deranged enough to take down those things they hate. We have been systematically hated by powergamers for a long time who feel we do not belong in the game. I wouldn’t put it past these people to tip us counterfeit credits to “tag us” honest live ents as cheaters.

So until the bluetags give me some indication I can still play this profession, I am going to don my fencing attire, polish my epee, and work on my riposte fighting…whatever. And playing this profession for me includes the ability to take in every tip—no matter the size, confident that I can keep it, use it, and spend it.

Sirii Ajaan the “Dancer of and for the Stars” is on sabbatical until further notice…and I suggest you other entertainers who hope to be around in a week do the same.

I wouldn't worry too much. The dupers who are tipping innocent people are tipping much more than 100k. More like tens of millions, at least on Intrepid. A 100k tip would not arouse any suspicion in the logs, unless it happened to be from a known duper. And hopefully they'll all be banned soon enough.

If someone offers you 40million out of the goodness of their heart, run!

uhm ... what if someone pays us 10 mill for resources?? Please tell me they really do have *known* individuals and not just suspicious account activity.

If you legitimately sold someone 10mil worth of resources, simply submit a ticket stating that you sold the resources, to whom, and for how much. If you're reporting the activity yourself up front, it protects you. And I do think they know who the dupers are, as they can log it. What's problematic now is tracing the money as it's been traded, spent, etc.

I'm pretty sure they have a lot of mechanisms in place to trace the route of all financial transactions in-game. Whoever started this mess will get hit hard, and whoever their accomplices are will also be dealt with.

If you get a big tip, my suggestion is don't do anything with the money, but submit a ticket about it including who it was from, where it was, what time it was, if it was a cash tip or a bank tip and why they might have tipped it to you.

I'll see if I can get any other recommendations on what you can do to protect yourself.

By ticket do you mean the in-game reporting? Thanks for the advice. This was the first time I ever sold large amounts of resources without putting them on a vendor so I'm a bit paranoid. I kept the bank tip emails for about a week but just recently deleted them... naturally. Fortunately I don't usually get tips larger than about 10K for mind buffing. I do occassionally get large tips for entertaining but never more than 100K. I do have to wonder about the mentality of people who go to such lengths to cheat in a game....

Yes, an in-game ticket. Open the holocron (Ctrl-H) and select "Customer Service". Not sure off the top of my head what category would be best for it. You'll need to do a knowledgebase search first.

Thanks Tiaga! Now I can't wait for the day to be over so I can get this taken care of rather than continue being paranoid...

Cheers.

Thank you Tiaga for following up on this. We are uniquely vulnerable in situations like this. Big tips may be rare, but they happen. And they happen for reasons that do not lend themselves to rational explination. A lot of entertainers live on and for the big tipper. Its what makes all the grief and poverty in the cantinas worthwhile. But this puts us in an ankward position when it comes to things like this. Because its rather hard to receive a large tip from a character, report it to a CSR, have as the reason for the tip be "because he must have liked what I was doing," and still be taken seriously at the day's end.

Actually, Ikewe, if this resource sale happened more than a week ago, I don't think you have anything to worry about. The duping, and the wild spending that resulted from it, started occurring within the past two days or so.
