Thread: Spending skills points to retain certification

Forgive if this notion has been floated and shot down before...

This idea was suggested to me by spending Music experience to learn the quest song 'Western'. What do you think of spending skill points to retain a certification while dropping to a lower level in the profession? For instance, a Master Entertainer might want to progress into Musician, and keep playing 'Ceremonial' on the Mandoviol, but not keep points tied up in ID and Dance. Under this proposal, she could "spend" 1 or more skill points to lock-in those certs (unless she dropped the Entertainer profession completely). If that seems too cheap, another possibility is 1 point for each locked cert, plus 1 more for each skill box that she would otherwise need to retain that cert.

Hi.

If all professions did this then ok. Say example, I wish to lock in Master marksman and continue with Rifles and while keeping music mastered and Entertainer mastered..

Then yes Let me lock the hunting skill.

myself I believe playing ceremonial and the mando should be restricted to the ones that have the skill (not droped it).

I am proud to have mastered Entertainer and keep it. Please don't make it seem worthless to me.

Technically, this is already in place. In order to play a Mandovial or the Ceremonial song, you must have spent 77 skill points. If you wish to continue playing that instrument or that song, you must keep those skill points set aside for those certifications and not use them for anything else.

Good idea on the original post, but yea...We're putting points into keeping the skills. And it would be making those who keep it seem worthless for those who just 'keep the song'

I have to agree that the mando and ceremonial, as examples, are indications that you are a master entertainer. It would be nice to free up skill points in some fashion like this but at the same time I'm proud of my master entertainer title and the mando is how I display this fact and differentiate myself from other musicians. On the same note the two dances I got, although I don't do them often, set me apart from pure dancers because they simply can't do them. It shows I've worked for extra skills and given up other opportunities to be what I am. If we can lock in certifications we will suddenly see all kinds of over the top templates because people judiciously use one or two points to get the best certifications from each skill tree.

I'd like to "lock in" a lot of skills. Oh think how much fun I could have. I'd lock in all the entertainer professions, including ID, so that's hmm... 16 boxes for each tree, including entertainer - so that's 64, plus the novice box and the master boxes, which comes out to a total of 69 points for 3 elites and a starter. Then I could mater doctor, lock it in.. so that's hmm... 18+17 = 35. What a bargain! Hmmm with the remaining points I could probably master TKA, then lock that in, and so on.

Locking in skills pretty much defeats the purpose of having a limited number of points, and making choices based on those points.
