Thread: An idea regarding theatres and hotels

Hey

I was sitting in the coro cantina today, and suddenly an idea popped into my head.
We always see packed cantinas in the major cities. But, personally, I've never had the pleasure of seeing an entertainer in the theatre or in any of the hotels around the NPC cities, which I know the entertainers can also use.
Why not make it more lucrative for entertainers to perform in hotels and theatres?
You could, for instance, add some bonuses when entertainers act in theatres, maybe 45 - 50% faster healing or temporary combat bonuses at the expense of maybe, an entrance fee of... say... 300 - 400 credits, of which 90% would go to the performers and the rest out of the economy. This would also help the general game economy by dumping some money.
Maybe you could do something along those lines in hotels too.
Of course, there'd have to be a restriction on how many entertainers could perform at the same time. Maybe 10 dancers and 15 musicians (in the theatre. It could be the other way around in hotels)
I'm not an entertainer, so there might be some complication I don't see, and this is just an idea off the top of my head... so be gentle!

What do you think?

Do you have any suggestions?

It's sort of a double edged sword. Not only for using theater/hotels, but also for using other cities besides Coronet and Theed. No entertainers go anywhere else because there are no other ents to group with and no combat players to heal. No combat players go there because there are no ents to heal them. The same goes for other structures than cantinas.

The only way I can think of to get around it is to basically get a group of ents to go somewhere else everyday, and spread the word to the combat folks. But I still can't see too many leaving the big cities.

Cancelled 7/27/05 - I joined to play Star Wars, not Jedi-BH Wars. You've ignored/gutted/abused just about every other profession in the game, while spending most of your time working on Jedi and BH as they related to Jedi. You've basically killed the game for anyone who doesn't want the glowstick. Congratulations.

I'd like to see some consideration given to tying the new buff rates to a hotel or theater, for Masters. Then the big bands could form in the cantinas for healing, and the best buffs might occur elsewhere. As a master I often dont join the big group simply so I can run my full repetoire of songs without killing rookies, it might be nice to have a reson to work in another place, though I'd still spend a lot of time at the cantina, because I like people

I would love to have theaters (especially player ones) be able to work from stage for buffing and heals. Actually I would like to see some of the NPC buildings get more use - anyone do any exploring lately of some of the cool buildings in the cities?

There are some interesting houses in Keren. NPCs with missions, and even, Goddess knows why, a house with mission terminals inside....

Look around have some fun. Find the Restaraunt in Bestine, or the Ranch house outside Mos Eisley.

hmmm the problem is that if you give one structure more of a bonus then any other structure is that all entertainers would then only frequent that structure. It would just be like the cantina's in that all entertainers would be there and no where else after a few weeks.

it could be interesting if you could a apply a time method to this

say morning hotels are best

afternoon theaters

night cantinas...

not to say this would work but it would be interesting

I was thinking more along the lines that they could compliment each other.
Maybe the theatre could give a slight boost to health/action and hotel could give an even slighter bonus to mind (to make up for the power a high mind gives).
Cantinas could then give a fast healing rate.

Good idea in my book. I always wondered why the guild halls, hotels and other venues never had anyone in them.

My personal tactic to avoid the more crowded cantinas is to go to a place like Anchorhead. Sure I might not get the XP and tips but I get to help people who are after faction points.

One of the problems (as mentioned in other replies) is how to deal with people who will exploit bonuses from playing the 'off the beaten track' venues.

At least for now, on a player by player basis would be to set groups on your server to play the hotels and such. I know repetitive macros are a sore spot but setting a /yell or /planet announcement to state the venue would be an idea. I hate getting spammed every 5 seconds by some AFK fool so if I set up a macro to announce something I try to put a decent time on it (say every 90 seconds) so it's not screwing up legitimate conversations.

Till the Devs re-do Entertainers how does the player based groups at the off-strip venues sound?
