...without even lifting a weapon!

Here's how:

Allow any entertainer, musician, dancer, or, Image Designer the ability to register in a cantina.

Registering in a cantina will allow the player to select a passive bonus that will apply to everyone of the same faction as the player to everyone in the city. (Anyone leaving the city, loses the bonus.)

Entertainer: General Melee/Ranged Accuracy +1

Dancer: Melee/Ranged Defense +1

Musician: Melee/Ranged Damage +1

Image Designer: General Melee/Ranged Speed +1

i.e. If you are a musician, you could select either the Accuracy bonus or the Damage bonus, but not both. A quad-master would be able to select from all four.

These bonuses would stack, so the more entertainers registered in a cantina in a city will have an accumulative bonus. (I.E. 20 musicians = Damage +20)

The catch is that randomly, a randomly named NPC (e.g. Kilail (a Cantina rep) ) will walk into the cantina and address the registered player, and say something like "%TT, your registration at this cantina is about to expire. Speak with me to renew your registration. Failure to speak with me will result in us having to kick you out of the cantina."

While registered, a player will earn 30 credits every 10 seconds, and 1 faction point per 10 seconds.

Also, randomly, factional NPCs might come in and request an inspiration from the player. If you target them and select (inspire), andentertain for 2 minutes, (or in the case of an Image Designer, just the act of selecting "inspire", and the NPC would display a holo emote for the factional insignia after doing so), the player will then earn 50 FP and 1000 credits. Ignoring the factional NPC will remove 100 FP and get you kicked out of the cantina.

The idea here is to give us entertainers a reason to come back to the cantinas, especially in the NPC cities, and also be able to help out our factional buddies, but not require us to have any sort of combat ability (or level). This method wouldn't even require us to be Combatant, so we wouldn't risk death by opponents.

Anyway, just a thought. Anyone wanting to post feedback, feel free! What would make this scheme better?

The only part that I'm not following is the "Anyone leaving the city loses the bonus". Do that many people stay in the cities? It's been my experience that they are in the city for a short period of time and then they go out for base defense/offense, POI attacks, etc..

But I like the rest of it, especially the "your registration is about to expire" and the ability for entertainers to gain FP without combat.

This is a nice new fresh idea. The only thing I would change is allowing the inspiration to last fora specified period of time, otherwise players will feel like they are being kept in the cities and not allowed to go about thier business else where.

My only thing . . . if you have to select it . .its not really passive. And if you ARE the entertainer . . .aka master ent/master music/master dancer/master id you've spent all yours SP but can only give 1 bonus . . . what would kinda stink.

I don't think the OP's idea was that this would be the only thing that should be implemented as far as "buffs" go. I think any entertainer who wants to be able to provide an enhancement will agree that the list needs to be long and varied.

Again, I like this idea. I think it helps open the door to allow for more opportunities for entertainers so that the profession really can be fun (and productive)for a variety of playstyles. I think for too long the "they" has concentrated on only the smallest potential possible for these professions. Now that we're essentially starting from scratch, I think it's the perfect time for those of us who want more tostart really thinking outside the box.

Oh, by passive, I only meant that the player receiving the bonus didn't have to do anything other than be in the city. There are a few people out there that do some PvE GCW stuff in cities, and PvP in some cities as well.

The bonus would be additive (i.e. if you had five musicians, the bonus would be +5, ten musicians would be a bonus of +10, so that the more people you had in the same cantina, the higher the passive bonus would end up being.)

The only reason for that is that since we're social professions to begin with, this would give us a reason to all get back into the city cantinas.

Yeah that's true -- this isn't meant as a replacement for the prof-specific buffs, or the active inspiration, but this is an additional bonus that's added while registered (and actively playing ATK). Just another aspect of what our profession should be capable of given the whole new world of the CU and whatever they're planning on doing with the GCW.

I know how badly it feels sometimes, to be an entertainer (and I'm sure lots of you feel the same way), that you want to be a part of the GCW, but don't really want to combat anything. At least this way, we wouldn't be bards (in the EQ sense), but we still could help out our fellow guildmates or same-faction friends when it comes to the GCW.

Just because we're a social profession doesn't mean we can't have an impact on the rest of the game, that much is for sure. I just hope the devs have the same mindset going forward.

Well, that's the thing about each entertainer only being +1... leaving and going about your business isn't going to affect the aggregate total of the bonus very much, so nobody has to feel bad if they have to go run harvesters, or go fly some space combat, or go chat with some friends in another place, or anything entertainers like to do with their spare time. Although it could have a delayed effect, so that your hour of registration at a cantina would provide two hours of your +1 buff for people in the city, maybe.

But either way, it gives a nice reason for us all to gather together in one spot, and help out the combat folks in some way. (Kinda like BF did before, kinda sorta...)
