Thread: Proposed CH changes affect us all

Have you all read about the proposed CH changes, which include significant changes to non-CH pets? I don't know about you, but for my characters who are primarily entertainers or artisans, the changes will make SWG virtually unplayable and may send me packing. I am interested in finding out if I am the only one who feels this strongly. If you also find the changes unacceptable, please take a minute to make your opinion heard on the Developers Forum and also to post about this proposed change on the forum for your individual profession.

The major proposed changes for non-CH pets are (1) only one pet and (2) top level pet to be L10 rather than L15.

I don't know about you, but extractor/generator runs are challenging times for me. It is not unusual for me to be killed at least once, and sometimes multiple times,by the large groups of red dots who like to hang out by our equipment. I don't fancy trying to run around servicing my extractors without my Cowardly Gurreck. Likewise, just traveling around to shop for clothes as a dancer, for example, will become a life-threatening mission.

I see this change as making artisans and entertainers invalid choices in the game. Instead, like EQ, everyone will have to be primarily a combatant and spend much of their time out killing things in order to get credits to obtain resources. Sadly, this means I may well leave SWG, since one of the main reasons I have become an avid fan is that I had choices other than running around as a member of a large group of players bent on killing everything in sight.

Oh, and the roleplaying part of me is distraught at what I am to do with Gus the Gurreck and Phoenix the Mountain Krevel, among others. I have grown very attached to them, often keep them out while sitting at my house crafting, talk to them, kiss them (well, Gus anyhow) on the nose before I store them on the datapad for a nap and generally consider them good friends. What am I to do with them? Will we have SPCA's to place homeless pets? Am I to take them out and shoot them?

Despondently,

I used to find harvestor runs challenging for when my primarily dance character was thinking about becoming a tailor and was working artisan, but to protect myself, I didn't buy a bunch of kick-butt creatures... I took up marksman. Dejah doesn't really like animals, because (in her opinion) they smell and are annoying. This fit in great because it gave her a good excuse to hunt them. She's now a Master Marksman and is slowly giving up her artisan skills to finish out Dance/Entertainment with an eye on eventually Master Dance/Master Ent.

It strikes me that if she didn't have artisan skills in the first place, she could've been perfectly safe staying in town all day and never going anywhere. Now, I will agree that such a thing isn't a lot of fun, but Dejah, who is not the HAMiest of characters, being a Twi'lek and still having most of her stats in Action, nevertheless is perfectly safe running around Naboo, Rori, Tatooine, Corellia, and even Lok (though I have to be very careful on Lok). She's never owned a creature, and I doubt she ever will.

I don't really agree that this change has a major affect on entertainers at all. We don't "need" to do harvestor runs or that type of thing. Now, it has an affect if nobody tips us and we have to run destroy missions, but that's the fault of the other players, not the power level of the creatures.

I completely agree with you that the changes will affect other classes. My 2nd character is working on becoming a BE and this is a huge change for them, as it means way less creatures they can sell and thus less money they can make, and so forth. So I am not saying it is a good change. But what I am saying is, it does not affect my entertainer abilities at all, and a pure entertainer would not directly notice this change at all. And this is the Entertainer forum. If you'd posted it over in BE, or Artisan, or Tailor, I'd have posted an agreement. But in this forum, I disagree.

Artysan is right - I urge everyone who relies on their pet to reply to the thread on the developer board before the master ch's who LOVE this nerf to non-CHs push this change through. There's 27 pages of replies now and overwhelmingly all the CHs are gloating how they will be the only ones with pets worth a rat'shindquarters now.

They are trying to make CH dabble-proof so you need near master to use a good et, and making non-CH pets completely useless. Speak now or lose your pets =( Master CHs love it, everyone else hates it, yet the master CHs are numerous and vocal. They must be opposed!

"So the average player's free ride as a Novice Creature Handler is over..."

You just proved my point by saying that. You admit you think CH as a professionis being nerfed (though it's not, at master level) -but at the same time you're happy to see every non-CH nerfed as well. You express some pity for the folks grinding their way to CH master, but you have absolute no idea what non-CH pets have come to mean to the majority of non-combatants and ranged combatants.

They aren't fixing CH doing this - they are breaking everybody else. Master CH will still be 90% as powerful as it stands today. Only this will be even *more* powerful in comparison to every person who depends on a non-CH pet to be able to run simple destroy missions granted by terminals to earn their credits. Now you'll *have* to take CH if you want to run destroy missions, or beg for a group. Rifleman? Carbineer? Sorry, no missions for you...

As for using droids as replacement tanks - that's just as silly, and then I have to ask - just how are you going to heal said tanks? With Droid stims made by droid engineers?

I really think what they are doing is yet another giant step backwards. More work, less fun. That's what this game has been devolving into since release day.

Not all master CHs love what's being done to their class, butwithout exception, I did NOT see one CH expressing *any* concern for non-CH pet levels being lowered. They all think it's a *wonderful* thing - including you =(

Maybe you focus to much on your pets. As a pure entertainer ( novice artisan, master entertainer, dancer, musician ) without any combat or scout skills I have not once died. I had 10 wind generators, 5 solars and a bunch of personal other harvesters over the time. I don't park them in exotic spots. I place them where they generate income. Up to now, I have been able to dodge any mob by simple looking on my map and avoiding red arrows.

This change will not affect me at all... maybe it will make Star Wars a little bit less pet wars.

Indeed the changes do affect us all. However, I think overall they are positive changes.

I Have to admit to a bit of disappointment that I'm unlikely to be able to call a Pet that one of my CH friends had given me anymore. I rarely used him for combat he just followed me around from time to time and did tricks

Other than that one personally dissapointing item I'm pleased with the changes. I'm glad to see them top load professions to discourage dabblers and hope some of the other ballance issues are handled in a similar fashion in the future. This type of solution rewards people who actually spend time in the profession.

I for one will be glad to see the end of PetWars.

I got a good chuckle out of this. I'm a Master Creature Handler and like many of my fellow masters I'm not real excited about the changes. They are removing being able to call out 3 pets at Master down to 2, but as it stands I'll only be able to use one strong pet even at master, as they'll be changing many of the creature levels and creature attributes around; I lose TEN LEVELS of what I can tame and use, dropping from a max of 70 to 60(yet again at Master, pity the poor up and coming CH), and mobs will be aggroing on me more often just forcommanding or healing my pets. Oh andany credits I could make selling pets will pretty much disappear, at least once everyone has the mount they're looking for. Yes, I'm really, really excitedabout the proposed changes.

So the average player's free ride as a Novice Creature Handler is over (you do realize that as a novice, the only difference between a non-Ch and the novice is the ability to train 3 commands?); perhaps you could drum up support by suggesting the devs allow everyone novice musician or novice dancer to even it out.

I am a masterdancer, fencer 0111, tailor 4443 and I have never needed a pet, and the game is far from unplayable for me.

Quite the contrary, I like to have a little challange.
