Thread: Master Entertainer?
So I just got Musician IV and Entertainment Healing IV, I'm well on my way to Dancing but I may drop that because I'm not a Boogie Wookie so I just look like a very feminine John Travolta with 2 large snails on his head...
My question is what does Master Entertainer really net us? Is doing the Image Consultant stuff really worth the benefits of the Mastery?
Anyway, so begins the long road to 85,000 xp for Novice Musician....

The main benefit is that you get a song, two dances, and an instrument that no other skill branch gets. The instrument is the mandovial, which is the only stringed instrument in the game.
As a novice musician, you can earn your way to the mandovial schematic (second box of musical techniques, if alakhazam's character creator is trustworthy) but you can't PLAY it unless you've achieved master entertainer.
It's not that hard to get the image design points. I have artisans skills, so I practice ID on myself while I'm sampling. I've achieved ID1 and am well on the way to ID2 without much trouble. (Though I may end up with repetitive stress syndrome, in the end!)ID3 and ID4 will take longer, obviously, but I can see my way clear to putting in the time to make master entertainer.
Hmm, could use a break from dancing, maybe I will pause at novice dancer and work towards master entertainer for a while.
I don't think most people know (I didn't!) all the details mentioned here! Hmm, maybe I will have to start an artisan now to dig up some materials to craft instruments for xp... heh

How in the heck do you use it on yoruself? I can't click on myself and would LOVE to be able to change my lekku from time to time. One reason I really liked the Twi'Lek, other than the fact that Bib Fortuna and that femme dancer in Jabba's Palace were some of the coolest looking aliens ever IMO, was the lekku speech...I dreamed of aniamted lekku moving around when I talked (even if it was just some lazzy wavy movement). But alas I'm not able to change my Lekku at will
...they're not hair, they're a livign part of me damnit I shoudl be able to move them like i do arms...anyawy).
Woudl love to know?
Sollion, there is a little-known hotkey for selecting yourself. Ctrl-1
But that was discussed being removed by the Client Lead, Andy Sommers, just before the end of beta because it is unnecessary.
When you have nothing selected, the game implies that the target is yourself. So just have nothing targetted, and type /imagedesign
Gah my post vanished lol... these boards are a nightmare when the servers are down!
About Image Design - you all realize that you get several times as much xp by practicing on other people right? At the lower levels it is 50 xp instead of 6 xp.
I forget how much xp it is exactly per level, but it is substantially less than the other skills and it takes about a half hour per level. The only big factor is MONEY... it's expensive! Glad there are several of us sharing it.
Ok anyway, I shared this thread with my group last night. We are all now working on our final branch of entertainer (music or dance depending on what we were going to specialize) before we go on to the specialized branches.
About Allakhazam and the other popular character builder - they are wrong. I checked in-game last night, and the dances you get with master entertainer are formal2 and footloose2. I used both builders yesterday and at least one had that completely wrong, and they both were wrong at a few points in the dance lines, not sure about music.

Master Entertainer is exactly like Master Musician. Both give a song and an instrument you wouldn't get otherwise. But, many people view Master Musician as the natural progression, while Master Entertainer is an out-of-the-way thing requiring you to waste time doing hair.
For me, it's the other way around. I want songs and instruments. I don't want to be able to make them, since I'm giving up my Artisan skills eventually. I don't want to spend points healing people more quickly, either.
Anyway, you have four possible paths, if all you value are new instruments and new songs.
LARRY:
Master Entertainer + Master Musician
> Takes 140 skill points
> Knows all songs and all instruments
> Heals people really quickly, and can make instruments
> Can do hair and dance, too.
MOE:
Entertainer (Music 1-4, EntHeal 1-4) + Master Musician
> Takes 106 skill points
> Missing one song (Ceremonial) and one instrument (Mandoviol)
> Heals people really quickly, and can make instruments
> Can't do hair or dance, beyond what Novice Entertainer gives
CURLY:
Master Entertainer + Musician (Music Knowledge 1-4)
> Takes 97 skill points
> Missing one song (Virtuoso) and one instrument (Nalargon)
> Heals people slowly, can't make instruments beyond Kloo Horn or do light shows
> Can do hair and dance, too.
SHEMP:
Entertainer (Music 1-4, EntHeal 1-4) + Musician (Music Knowledge 1-4)
> Takes 63 skill points
> Missing two songs (Virtuoso, Ceremonial) and two instruments (Nalargon, Mandoviol)
> Heals people slowly, can't make instruments beyond Kloo Horn or do light shows
> Can't do hair or dance, beyond what Novice Entertainer gives
The point is, if you take the economy route (Shemp) you'll only miss out on two rare songs and two rare instruments, while only spending less than HALF as many skill points as someone else. With the 77 points you'd have extra, you could buy a full elite profession and then some. You'll almost never hear Virtuoso or Ceremonial be played anyway, since the rest of the group won't know them.
If you want to go partway, taking either Larry or Curly, you'd still save a large number of skill points and get useful abilities. Most people I know tend to go Moe, while I'm leaning towards Curly.
There's another advantage to going Master Entertainer: it's easy to pick up some elite profession skills in Image Design or Dancer, since you're already there, so you could switch paths if you get tired of music. This also means you can sacrifice some high-point skills easily, while someone who mastered Musician would only get 2-3 points per box he'd sacrifice, and it'd take far longer to get those back.
If you're an Image Designer who doesn't want to play music or dance, there's absolutely no reason to go Master Entertainer.
I'm a Larry, no doubt, but I'm doing the master musician track first--a decision I made a while ago based on personal desires. I got a taste of playing nalagron and bandfill in beta, and I want to get back to that before mando. ;-)
