Thread: Making a spot for Entertainers on the battlefield.

I see Entertainers don't really have a role in combat. And although this sounds crazy, hear me out.

Looking at Entertainers now I see they don't have much to do anymore. their buffs are stripped and all they are there for is for combat battleFatigue. and That doesn't even play to much of a role in combat. You can go days or weeks without healing BF and there lies the problem.

This should incorporate Entertainers into the battle and get a few laughs along the way

Let entertainers play/sing/dance lyrics/music while the battle ensues. Their songs/dances can enhance the groups strength, weaken the enemies to certain damage, increase defense a little. Or just have the benefit of setting up camp and healing BF while in the field (not sure if this is such a good idea if we want ppl in our cantina's)

View this profession in the field more like an enhancer profession. They are not a viable fighter by no means, but can offer support by increasing certain stats that are in their group for a limited amount of time.

Example:

We have a group fighting a Creature, This creature happens to be weak to kinetic, but we have a party full of Marksmen. This don't fair well until the Entertainer plays a song/dance that weakens a creature to Energy. Now the party stands a better chance of taking out this creature.

In the mean time the entertainer can ehnace the party by playing songs/dances that regenerates health (slowly) And we let entertainers only able to give 2 effects at a time. with a time limit of these effects only lasting about 2mins or less depending on the strength of these effects.

this can also be applied to NPC's also.

Also there should be a range set to these effects. So to add even more strategy a Entertainer can increase the damage of the the Tankers and increase the defense of the healers.

I understand this is way out there! Butit would get Entertainers OUT of the cantina's (although still necessary to be there for getting XP and healing BF) This idea may need to be tweaked a little about healing the BF part. Since we don't want the Cantinas abandoned!

It gives them something else to do than chat all day in the cantina's and let's them see, if not really particiate in these battles that they always hear about in the cantina.

I think something needs to be done to separate the social function that is supposed to be on the Cantina as a Social Hub and the Entertainers who are meant to be the Social Players. This is certainly one way to do it.

The other options would be to create a lot of Performer Based PvE content outside of the Cantinas in the form of quests, missions, and teamed gameplay that mimics the combat game but is totally non-combat and Entertainer flavored. (For the record, the Devs seem to blanche at the idea of spending the amount of time and resources that would be needed on creating this kind of set up last I heard.)

Or tocreate a Support relationship with the Crafting Game that would simulate the support roles that are found in combat. This would be very possible if we had a crafting set up closer to the way it is done in EQ2. So far, the only thing that seems to be headed that way is Smugglers' Slicing though so this would have to come with some sort of Crafter Upgrade most likely. (No clue what the Devs would say about this.)

The other option would be to just reduce the Entertainer Profs' skill points and just leave it at that.

Similar to Politician? So everyone can pick up some entertainer?

That sounds like a good idea, as long as elite (dancer, musician, etc) kept skill points.

Sounds like the role of a Bard from various table top rpgs. But I like the idea eventhough it sounds likea squad leader kind of deal. Or what about an area effect mesmerize leaving enemies stunned for a few seconds?

Most memorable SWG quotes:
"You lookin fer summat?"
"Get on board the falcon kid. This place is gonna blow." (How can you forget something you've heard over 100 times in a row?)

I love the incorporation of Entertainers in arenas outside the cantina, but I personally am against turning ourselves into bards. Squad Leaders are the profession meant to enhance in the field, and to give ourselves the same ability would do something the devs are deadset against: the repetition of the same exact roles in different professions.

One of the things I am proudest of as an Entertainer is still being a force to be feared on the battlefield. It would be silly for me to be known as such for my mandoviol solos, though...I'd prefer to be "that crazy Twi'lek who can slice you up and then play a song about it."

Who decided every addition to SWG should be a rutabaga?

I always thought entertainers should be able to add something usefull to a group. I'm not talking about taking any group enhancements from the Squad Leaders, but having an entertainer in your hunting group should certainly improove the moral of a group at the very least.

Well.. theoretically.

they would need a few defences and maybe even the motivation to see themselves as a combat class by upping CL a bit maybe or else they wouldnt surive on the battlefield

the idea of them enhancing troops in battle is great and i'm sure many entertainers want to be bards and not bots stuck staring at cantina walls all day long while being perved over

Actually the idea isn't way out there at all and has been proposed numerous times in the past. However I believe, and Panthu or any other Correspondent can correct me if I'm having a memory-impaired moment, that the devs have stated pretty firmly that they are against the idea of entertainers being Bards. But there are a variety of other options to bring more than a virtual chat room to the entertainers:

1) entertainer specific quests that require no combat but which grant loot, credits, FP, abilities, etc...

2) creating a role for entertainers in Dungeon groups similar to the one for MA and DE in the DWB

3) providing a role other than "entertaining" while in the cantinas... specifically I'd like to see entertainers with the ability to spy and provide information to other professions such as BH or smuggler. Don't make the information a requirement for them to complete their mission as that simply puts too much pressure on the system but make it so that a BH or Smuggler can complete their mission in significantly less time if an entertainer can provide them with a bit of "secret" information they were able to get from an NPC

The key I believe is to let go of the phrase "social playstyle" when referring to entertainers. In my opinion that phrase instantly puts a limiting factor into the equation. Yes there are some entertainers who are perfectly happy simply staying inside the cantina with no further immersion in the Universe, just as there are combat players who are perfectly happy simply killing lair after lair of quenkers or pickets or whatever. But there are also players who want to complete quests, to explore the galaxy, to take a role in the GCW, etc.. and they are found in all professions including those that don't require the use of a weapon.

I do think you are on to something, as far as how it would be great if we could do some sort of support role. Back in The Day, I used to go along with group hunts, to entertain while people were sitting in camps. Back then, there seemed to be a lot more people with mind wounds than BF, so they were happy to have an entertainer out there to at least heal the mind, and then everyone head back to the Cantina together to get rid of the BF.

I still think that's not a bad idea. If we could do BF healing in the field, I'd certainly go, even if I didn't have any combat skills. After all, "the troops" keep their support personel safe, yes?

Even now, if I run around RP'ing an entertainer in distress, I have a ton of people step up and slay whatever NPC/monster is attacking me. /grin
