Thread: Dancers/Musicians need a way to prevent watching/listening
wow...I hit some wrong button and spammed this message somehow. Sorry about that.

I'm sure everyone has had their share of jerks who come in and either insult or harass the entertainers. The only way to prevent them from receiving your service is to stop playing or dancing which stops everyone else from receiving the service. I'd like to see a way to block certain people(similar to an ignore list) from listening or watching you.
I had a guy come into the cantina tonight who thought it was incredibly funny to spam emotes at me. Well, he got added to the ignore list in short order. It didn't even occur to me to not want to perform for him though. I guess I felt that being left out of the cantina prattle, and forever doomed to exist in limboon my ignore list, was punishment enough =)
I wonder how long it will take some of these folks to realize that once their reputation is ruined, they're done.
It isn't very realistic, even for a sci-fi game, to be able to selectively limit where your 'healing powers' are going, which is why I disagree with adding something like that. Besides, if they aren't gonna tip they aren't gonna tip - they can sit in the corner and we can mutually ignore each other, or they can go on my /ignore list if they want to be annoying, but either way I'll still take the xp. ![]()
However, once the cashflow is going and higher level groups are being able to afford their own clubs, etc., the a-holes will probably find themselves banned from those locations, forced to seek out the less-experienced soles still performing in cantinas. After they sit there healing for 10x the amount of time they would have to with a more skilled performer, I think they will come to their senses and be more forthcoming with apologizes and credits. hehe
I disagreed in Beta, and I disagree here. :>
Here's the deal - you're playing in a public Cantina. Anybody can walk off the street and watch you perform. The only way for you to stop them in a public Cantina is to stop playing. Just like how a band can't stop you alone from enjoying their music at an outdoor festival. It's unreasonable to say "You, you, you, and you can listen to me, but you cannot."
However, all hope is NOT lost! Player-run Cantinas. These will be our savior. The Cantina owner can kick someone out of their establishment, and ban them from re-entering. THIS is your selective heal. It is my hope that you'll only see the experiencedentertainers in these Player-run Cantinas, with themgetting a cut of the cover charge from the owner. The public Cantinas will be filled with lower skilled Entertainers and those who are there for a quick gig, where there isn't as much crowd control. Start small, end big.
One of the performers in the group we have formed, was getting harrassed badly....duels were issued by the insulter and this went on for like 15 minutes. Finally being fed up with it, the entertainer who was being abused harshly accepted the duel. Someone passed him a weapon and some armor, which may or may not be fair, but hey, we are for the most part non combatants! They stepped out side, and I followed soon after, because I do have a small amount of skill with a pistol. Anyhow....the entertainer incapped the abuser.
A few days later, the abuser came back in and was even tipping well
But for the topics sake, I do not know about your bands status, but we already have quite a following and the patrons themselves take very unkindly to jerks. The solution to the problem is probably what was suggested, /ignore, and in time they will have either moved on, or they will have changed thier tune.

Similar story. We had two guys come in, start harassing each other and decide to duel inside the cantina; we've got blaster fire going back and forth while we're all playing and dancing, and kept asking them to take it outside. Both ignored us.
What'd we do? We stopped performing, and told the room we refuse to continue until these two left the place. Needless to say everyone else came down on them like a ton of bricks. Some of us moved to "block" the fighters, making it harder for them to see each otherand pretty quickly the hostilities ended.
Next time one of the guys came in he was polite as could be. Never saw his friend again.
Sometimes you have to be a little proactive, but if you - as a group - stop performing and let the entire room know it's because of one person's harassment of a band member, you'd be surprised how quickly everyone else will rise to boot the offender.

We are the reasons people come to cantinas and we have the power to stop the show. I think this is a good thing cause out on the battlefield I'm just some burstrunning Twi'lek who can't hit the broadside of an eopie from 10 yards away. hehe
I respectfully disagree that entertainers should be able to selective limit their audience. And here are my reasons -
1. It really isn't very "real" - bands can't limit their audiences like that in real life, anyone within ear shot can hear ya.
2. Some people might be really confused, especially those whe are still struggling with the "So what does an entertainer heal again" concept. "Have you banned me cause I'm not healing" is just one less question I'd like to deal with.
3. It seems there is a good in-game, not game design, solution to this and it even encourages dialogue and RP to deal with the offending person through dialogue rather then a simple /ignoreheal target function. Worse comes to worse, just quit playing and pack up.
Bestine got horrible last night and half the band took off to Mos Eis where a chaotic and racey time was had by all.

Thanks for the responses guys, unfortunately most of the suggestions I've tried before have backfired.
1) Dueling: On occasion I've dueled some of the offenders to stop their charade. I'm an Novice Musician/Carbineer so I sometimes act as a bouncer as well for our Bestine Cantina. However the people I kill usually just come back and harass even more. Once they figure out that I've put them on ignore they harass the dancers and other musicians just to spite me.
Also dueling is only a very temporary solution. You take time to stop performing which prevents you from getting exp, your listeners to stop healing and once the person you duel dies they'll be back in 1 minute anyways.
2) Simply stop playing and demand they leave: We've tried this a few times but it usually just results in "oh come on we're not like them!!" and nothing is actually done about the offenders. Your gameplay is halted, your listeners healing is halted and the trolls get their way.
3) If my suggestion actually got put in i'd like there to be a notice that says "This performer is not allowing you to watch/listen" when they attempt to. It's not very realistic but imo it does force people to either respect the service they're receiving or be punished without stopping the show for everyone.
Hopefully when player cantinas come around they will be my salvation.
