Thread: Street parties? Traveling troupes?

I spent all night last night playing my entertainer in the Theed cantina on Ahazi. While it was actually a pretty entertaining evening with more atk entertainers than afk, a few things became very clear. Most of the patrons who came in either didn't know about the BF change or were just there to check out the new props and the new song/dances. When the novelty wears off, it certainly appears that we'll be entertaining ourselves in the previously bustling cantinas.

Well, this morning I was playing my crafter on Starsider. Passing through Theed on my way home, I noticed a nalargon in the middle of the square in front of the starport. There were about 3 or 4 musicians and dancers congregated around it, and they were having a street party. That triggered a couple of questions.

First, can folks get inspiration buffs when not in a cantina or house? Ok, really that was my only question, other than "Street party? Why not?!". We can't force people into the cantinas to keep them lively. We haven't lost our ability to entertain, just our ability to do anything that brings people in to where we do it, which until now had to be the cantinas. As far as I know, we can get dance/music/entertainer exp anywhere, right? While I love being in an active cantina, I think it's really up to us to find things to keep our professions afloat until the devs take some sort of action to return some of our utility. The plaza in front of the Coronet starport used to bustle with activity. Compared to the "good ol' days" when I sold baby rancors and GSPs, that place is a ghost town. Why not liven it up a bit and have some open air entertaining? Theed and Coronet aren't the only places with wide open spots to set up either. A traveling entertaining troupe - I happen to think it'd be a blast.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I didn't take up my entertainer profs to make money. I doubt we'd get any more tips performing in the street than we do in the cantinas. After yesterday's publish, I'm sure those will be dwindling anyway. I just think by focusing on what was taken away from us, we're missing out on some of the opportunities that could be opening up. I'm currently Master Entertainer, Musician 0/3/4/3, and ID 1/0/0/0. I still intend to master all 4 ent profs. I don't see yesterday's pub as death for any of them, just a challenge to keep them fun for everyone.

Answer

1- An Entertainer cant give an inspiration buff when outside of a Cantina.

As for street jam, I did that a few time before pub20 and I liked it alots. It attract alots of people sometime.

As of now, I only street jam cause I'm extremely tired of zombie in the cantina. sad part is I'm starting to see those zombie outside of cantina now.

Atleast, from the street jam, everyone who stop by are there to talk and have social. Not the 30 sec I want my buff silent type guys.

But what nice, is as soon as a crowd is establish, it only get bigger because people start to wonder what is happening and get in the fun.

Ever tried a pillow fight with 15 people outside the cantina in mos eisley? lol...

So for me the BF removal havent affect me that much, since I Street jam only now. BUT I do think it was a bad Idea at first to remove it.

Now we either have to wait in a cantina with zombie for patron or do street jam.

As for getting good money at street jaming. I totaly dont know since I'm sticking to the Idea that entertainer shouldnt be my only source of income.

I'malso not spamming tips me or askfor anything. Plus I dont keep record of how many $ I got today as ent. I'm tailor too, so all the $ I get today goes in the same bank account.

So its kinda hard to say...

I'm more an Ent because I like to have social with people, have a blast and thats it.

I could care less about buff and that. But thats my opinion.

So yeah, traveling and entertaining outside from a cantina is way more fun then sticking around with zombie and empty cantina for sure. for me tho.

ButI'm so mad about the musician skill tree spliting tho.

In all that, I kinda agree with ya alots.

Our band on Gorath, The Kreetles throws a rave ever so often. We call them The Kreetles Starport Raves. We just had #5 out on Kashyyyk.

We'll all dress in our costumes and send emails to every entertainer we know, inviting them to play with us. We can keep a rave going FOR HOURS. It is a ton of fun and you get to meet all kinds of new people.

Hi, I just came into this forum to see what the general feeling was of losing BF, but this thread caught my eye.

I love the ideas of troupes, its something that I'll be adding to my own ideas in my own thread. It would go well with my 'market place' idea as well. Nice one

When Going-Commando Party Squad (on Eclipse) started, street jam sessions are just about all we did lol. Normally we'd do it out in front of Theed starport cause thats one of the popular areas on the server. I've always loved doing them and am glad to see more entertainers taking to the streets to do them. The thing that confuses me is people AFK-ing on the streets... again, my state on afk is that if you've got to go to the fridge or feed your pet, or do a quick errand around the house, I don't really mind afk-away. Its the long, incessant afk-ing with the spam macros front center in the cantina that ticks me off. If you've got to grind and want to still get group points, be courteous, turn off your spam about your tips and your name and your blasted tippers list, tuck yourself in one of the side rooms, and grind away. I know this sounds harsh to some but I never tip AFK dancers and I'll only watch them if there's not a soul atk in sight. With Zahra (who's a meanie by roleplay standards) I'll actually go into a cantina and yell 'So who's not afk?' and if she gets no response, she'll grumble, complain about dancer's advertisements, and just be a general pain for the duration of her stay in the cantina lol.

We had a great street jam session the other day in front of Theed cantina. It was me, one of the gals in my guild, and a musician for most of the duration of it (others joined later). The fun and kind of ironic thing about that one was that Laera and Cirna (the other gal) look very similar. They both have similar long brown hair (Laera has the braid headband and Cirna has the actual headband), wear similar dancer's costumes, and have the same guild tag. The only really big difference is Cirna makes tiny little Laera look like a hobbit, she's tall and just generally bigger while Laera is tiny. By some casual costume and prop coordinating (I'd see what Cirna was wearing and try to match it to a similar costume of mine in a different color) and the wonder of bandflourishes, we had people stopping and staring thinking we were twins. I don't do it for the tips but we certainly made some. It was a blast, can't wait to do it again.

The thought of doing a street jam has been on my mind since I first started thinking about making my entertainer. I just started her last night and let me tell you I have a new respect for what you all go through. I was in the cantina for maybe 5 hours and had two tips. One pity tip of 10 creds and the last from a guy who was looking for people NOT AFK. Well since I was the only one not AFK I got the attention, 3 new pieces of flashy clothing to make my dancing a little more, um, interesting, and a 10k tip. Nice conversation about all kinds of stuff is all it took. See what you AFKers are missing out on?

Anyways, I'm looking at joining a troupe to make the street jam even bigger but since she is still new I'll be waiting until she is at least a ME. I'll have to snoop around the Tempest server to see what is available.
