Thread: New profession idea.
I'm thinking a Bard, but that's more medievil.
but it would go something like this:
Requirements:
Musicianship IV
Ranged Support IV
Entertainer Healing IV
Overview:
Bards in many ways are similar to Squad Leaders (not required to be leader) in that they lead their group into combat, but in a different way. Through their many instruments and soothing voices, they can up the up the Speed, regeneration, and more of their group members. They're also taken into consideration with their offensive skills that can allow them to charm an NPC to fight along side the Bard, or soothe an NPC into halting attack toward a group. Bards are an essential aspect to a great hunting group, and can help in the deepest of situations.

Would like to get some thoughts
The reason is this comes up quite a bit. For example right now on the front page of the Dancer forum is this thread where the topic came up.
It is a quite dead horse I'm afraid. Though I think you have the most detailed idea to date. Having written a suggestionr ecently, I know that you probably feel pretty strongly about it.
However the devs have said entertainers aren't bards, and they have no plans to put anything bard like in the game. I believe the post where they say that is referenced in the thread I linked, if you can wade through the mild flame wars in there.
Thanks for your suggestion. As Tiaga says, the devs have repeatedly indicated that they don't want existing entertainer professions to act as bards. Now, I suppose that doesn't rule out a *new* profession that would be bard-like, but so far the devs have shown no interest in sucha profession.
Nonetheless, I'll direct the devs' attention to this thread.
Eeep, I just realized you posted this in the Entertainer forum, so this is SlickRiptide's jurisdiction. I'll let *him* decide whether to suggest it to the devs.
Sorry; thought I was still reading the Musician forum. /blush
I'd like to know who the hell in the dev team hates bards so much? I mean, it's not like Creature Handling really has any more ofa place in Star Wars. But it's someone's little pet project (pun intended), so of course it's been included and coddled...to the point where Pokèmon is now 'profanity' if you don't know how to type it just right.
Just a peeve of mine. Bards belong in Star Wars no less than BeastMasters, in my never-humble opinion. Whatever you end up calling them. I think there are a lot of us who would like to participate in combat and contribute to a fighting force, within the context of entertaining.
The developers' vehement disdain of the idea reinforces my feeling of their generally low regard for this terrific set of professions they've created. It's depressing and somewhat insulting.
Echinacea: "I'd like to know who the hell in the dev team hates bards so much?"
It's not that hate bards, it's that they/Lucas don't want Magic classes in SWG! Bards IS a Magic Profession.
Besides you could be a Squad Leader/Musician and call yourself a Bard.
I'm confused. How is doing what performers do, but not a cheesy bar, more 'magical' than telepathically communicating with a pet? (/tellpet) Or a medic healing wounds and damage without the use of medicines? (/tenddamge & /tendwound) The arguement that the developers don't want 'bards' because they're 'magic' seems, therefore, specious. That lends me to believe that someone is just biased. /shrug I also know that no one who counts really cares.
Iwould like to pursue an aspect of performance out in the field. I couldn't care less what it's called. 'Bard' is merely a familiar term. The idea has been proposed enough that there would be a following who would pursue it.
Incidentally, if one is a Master Musician and a Master Squad Leader (what would be the point in doing things halfway?) you have a whopping 9 points leftover to put into using a better gun than a CDEF.
Not exactly useful. Who's going to want to follow a leader who's so poor with their own weapon? And personally, I'd prefer being able to do hand-to-hand melee...which I can do with my instrument in hand. (I always found bashing durnies with my mandoviol tremendously amusing.) All in all, that synthesis would work...if I could heal fatigue out in the field. Guess we'll see, if Rangers' High Tech Field Bases are ever made capable of healing fatigue. But that problem of folks not wanting to follow someone who's not very good with a weapon still looks to be an inhibiting factor, and it's still not doing what I'm looking for in the context of performance.
