Thread: How do entertainer missions work? And what about recursive macros?

I've tried multiple missions from the Entertainer MIssion terminals. I'm always told to go to some waypoint in front of a cantina or hotel and either dance or play music.

So I go there, I dance and or play, and nothing happens.

How the heck are you suppossed to do these missions?

thanks.

I have another question about macro's. I've taken to running a recursive macro when I am in a cantina because hitting the flourish buttons over and over is the most boring thing in the world. With the macro running I can chat and emote and focus on the people in the room instead of my keyboard.

I've noticed that most entertainers seem to use macros for the repeated flourishes. I've also noticed people here saying macro's are illegal. That's silly because they wouldn't be a macro command if they were.

But what is the policy on using recursive macros? I'm not talking about afk marcotaining, but just running a recursive macro in the background while entertaining. The game seems clearly to have been designed with recursive macros in mind because the game lets you run multiple macro's simultaneously and there would be no need to supportthat unless recursion was a feature. And quite frankly, the ability to run multiple recursive entertainment macros simultaneously enables one to do some very creative things with your songs and dances if you are clever.

I enjoy using them (not while AFK, but while at the keyboard), and would abandon the profession completely if they weren't possible. But what is the official policy on there use? People seem to confuse their use with AFK macroing when they rant about the issue, and there is a difference. But does the official policy on their use make a distinction?

The official policy is that using the provided systems in the game, IE macros and aliases, is not a violation of the EULA. Furthermore, it's use is pretty common and accepted in the entertainer professions. The only arguments against macros aren't arguments of don't do this it's evil I hate you, it's more recommendations on how to make the class more interesting, and certainly not something you will be anything less for if not followed. So macro away.

This official policy is extended to the point that macros while AFK is also not a violation, though it is frowned upon by a segment of the entertainer profession. Some people take this to mean that it is a completely intended and encouraged way to play the game, however quotes from the developers have said otherwise, so the ability to macro AFK, or at least advance in any way, may at some point be removed. If it is on their to-do list, it is pretty low, after bug fixes and additional content.

Thanks, what about the other question?

How the heck to the missions at the Enterainer Mission terminals work? They make no sense. I danced for 4 hours at the location specified for one of them just to test and see if something would eventually happen and nothing ever happenned. Do these missions work at all? And if so, how do they work?

You have to dance inside the cantina/hotel/whatever they are in front of.

And to be honest I'm not sure they work.

Does it matter where in the building you dance? The hotels and cantina's have multiple rooms and sometimes they even have multiple floors.

They work. I put a pretty thorough dissertation on how to get them to work here. I figure it's probably counter-productive to repost the whole bloody thing. Hope it answers your questions.

thanks. those missions are pretty darned exasperating, especially if you are used to the non-entertainer missions in which the objective IS the waypoint.

Why the heck don't the entertainer missionssay: "go somewhere inside the building marked by the waypoint, and dance", instead of "go to the waypoint and dance".

I know, its a rhetorical question, don't bother answering it, but really, if any of the Dev's who wrote the text for those missions ever see this, you really ought to make them more clear. They are so exasperatingly vague that it's just plain silly.
