Thread: Entertainer in Combat Groups
How about giving entertainers some passive combat roles?
Sort of like bards in other mmpogs, but not like bards.
Aka, give entertainers a 'droid' that works like a medical module droid for medics, so that they can heal mind wounds outside camps and cantinas. Give them songs/dances that will increase secondary stats of group members that are listening to them (think bagpipers/drummer boys in real world history), but NOT 'heal' people. Say, a 100 or 200 secondary stat buff would be the max.
Give them the ability to lower npc/creature attack stats (think bagpipes).. like make a high attack rating creature become medium attack rating, or make them dodge/evade/block a heck of a lot less.
There are many historical examples where music impacted real battles. It would be good to give entertainers passive impact on the battlefield. One thing could be a distractive presence while playing an instrument. Or as mentioned above a boosting affect to party members. If the musician is alone he could subdue (put to sleep) possible encounters utilizing a soft melody and then sneak around the area. Or, if the area is appropriate create fear/impending doom with a haunting style tune.
I'm pretty sure the Developers said that the profession would never have "bard" qualities. If you search, you may find out exactly what they mean by that.
There's currently a thread on the musician forum about adding a module to droids allowing wound healing in the field. I hear the Droid Engineers have been discussing this as well on their forum.
The trick is how to implement that without adding an outright battle application for musicians.

I may go to Hell for this comment, but I can envision a Jukebox bot that follows you around and plays music. Anyone who watches/listens to you while you're performing heals Mind wounds. If either the performer or the patron is in the middle of combat, there is no healing.
Basically, a portable camp. Someone suggested a portable stage at one point. You pull it from your backpack, unfold it, and clamp some supports. Be a pain to do a formal dance on though.
