Thread: Dancing services and Roleplaying

Okay, I swore I'd stay in character as much as possible (yes, my first virtual new years' resolution- pretty sorry eg?) I did before, sure, but online gaming is new to me, and I'd like to make a point on staying in character. My group, however, mixes roleplaying and game terms quite often, so I've picked up some bad habits.

With that in mind, I have a question for roleplaying characters?

"Mind healing" and "buff" terms are too much game mechanic, too little roleplaying. How would you suggest, using in-character terms, you:

a) Offer to heal someone's mind?
Sometimes, I'll head out on a mission, only to see someone really beat up leaving an empty cantina. I try to interrupt them and offer services before they just get in the routine of heading to the capitol city crowd.

b) Sell mind buffs?
As in, let people know you're available for this focused service?

c) Request mind buffs?
This dancer is an aspiring riflewoman too- since we can't buff ourselves, how do roleplayers ask for buffs. Almost everyone I know uses the term "buff" but I'm looking for a more in-character representation.

If they're coming out of a cantina and look wounded, it's pretty easy to just offer to dance for them. Miri is somewhat flirty, so it's usually "Hello there, you look a bit down. May I offer you a dance to take your mind off things?"

M doesa swing as she comes in and leaves. I still use the term "buff" sometimes because I feel awkward offering mind enhancements. LOL But when she walks into a cantina, she usually will make one announcement, then go about her dancing. When she is ready to leave, she'll ask "Does anyone else wish the services of a master dancer before I go?" Most people know what master dancers can do, or will ask if they don't.

The only two ways I've seen this done IC are a request for a buff or an enhancement. I wish I had more options for you there, as it always feels a bit odd either way.

I remember seeing a guy roleplaying years ago, "I do not know what you speaketh of good sir, please what is this you..." blah blah blah. Being "in-character" is not being ignorant, that'll just annoy people. I always remember guys who would roleplay their trolls/ogres in EQ,just in their style of speech. They could talk about game-mechanics, anything, but they would continue with the ogre-speech. Being in-character is being in-character, don't stress what words or concepts you know or don't know, that ain't roleplaying, worry about how you use those words and concepts, while keeping inyour personality.Just my take on it.
