Thread: Player City Theaters

I'm sure this has been commented on before... but these tiny theaters are very disappointing. Why do the smallest of towns get lavish cantinas - and large cities have to wait to place this useless Theater? It makes no sense?

All shows would have to be done during the day, but with it being outside, this place creates its own lagging issues, i've noticed. I spend many hours perfecting the layout of furniture of my cantina, but the Theater has NO LIGHTS and no room for chairs, props, etc of ANY kind. And I don't count the hallway to the control panel...

Ok, fine... it will look good on the city map. But wait... I gave it a GREAT name: Princess Playhouse... can anyone SEE that name? No... Not on the city map or the planet map. So it's not even really that good as a city decoration. Particularly since we had to wait for it... it had to be placed on the outskirts of town.

Is ANYONE using this? Really?

Player city theaters are, as of now, totally pointless. You can't heal fatigue/mind wounds when performing out on stage. The 'footlights' aren't actually lights and at night it's pitch dark onstage. You can't put down a Narlagon or Ommni Box onstage. In all respects all but a tiny backstage portion of the theater is considered in the same light as a rooftop or balcony of a house.

I should amend the 'not being able to heal onstage.' There is a way, but it requires a group of performers, at least one of whom would have to be backstage. Dancers & at least one musician would need to be onstage, with the highest level Musicianin the group backstage. An audience member could target a Dancer or Musician onstage and /watch or /listen, and as long as the backstage Musician(s) were playing, entertainment healing would take place. But there would always need to be at least one performer backstage working, and part of the group that the onstage performers were in. I have no idea if a /setperform would work without the buffing performer going out onstage, performing long enough that the buffee could /watch or /listen, then going backstage and doing /setperform. This only works because if the performer is in a venue where entertainment healing can take place, it doesn't matter if the audience member/patron is, as long as they're in watching or listening range.

I've honestly no idea what they were thinking. I mean, which designer came up with the design for that building, plopped it into the world for the first time and said "Neat! All the player cities are SO going to want to have one of these!"

I did enjoy reading that the best use for this building was as a sniping platform. That was pretty funny...

I have a Master Musician on Kettemoor and finally got my hands on a Naboo Theater to place in our city. When I got it up, I find that you can't do anything on the main stage but look good. No BF healing, buffs or even registering. You have to do that in the small, hard-to-access back room.

I also noticed that you can't do anything in the outdoor "static" theaters, which makes that huge thing on Vreni Island and all the outdoor Nargalons and microphones useless.

What's the point of having all of these things in the game if they can't be used?

Yes, Player Theatres are broken. You can heal, but only in the small room in back. As of right now they are much better used for plays, but you can't put props on stage either. This is supposed to be fixedat some indeterminable time in the future. Both the props and the healing issue, have been brought to devs attention

However, Vreni Island has all of the capabilities of a Cantina, last I checked. Noone comes there for healing, due to its lack of starport, but it is an awesome location for concerts!

Yeah, I tested Vreni way back when, and I'm pretty sure it worked then. I doubt it's changed. Maybe I remember wrong.

As for player theaters, they are on our current top-five list. Our city just put one up this week after months of hand-wringing. We finally decided it would be a nice alternate performance venue, even if it isn't functional. Although we Musicians can't even play our nalargon or ommni there, right?

At the TC cross-server dance party, Tiaga worked out a way to play nalargon on the stage of player theatres. It was a beautiful thing to behold...

I couldn't relate the exact steps, but it required teamwork of at least two people to get the nalargon moved around and up to the edge of the stage in front. And it required a roadie to stand nearby to keep it from popping back to inventory, but it was on stage, and played by a master musician.

Yeppers, Tiaga figured out a way to get one up there at the Cross Server party. It is tricky though and you have to have a Volunteer stay in the audience near the nalargon/Omni to make sure it doesn't poof. Here is how you do it:

1) Have anyone, does not have to be an entertainer, place a Nalargon or Omni on the ground in front of the Theater.

2) Have them use the "play" option to drag the instrument up into the Theater seating area right up to the edge of the stage.

3) Have the musician who is going to play the instrument chose "play" on the radial while they are standing on the stage.

The instrument then shoots up out of the seating area to the musician on stage where they can play it as they will

The only catch to this is the volunteer who first placed the instrument is technically its owner. That means if they wander too far away, the instrument will poof, even if the musician is playing it. So in order to keep the instrument up there, you will have to have the volunteer sit near by in the audience for the duration of the performance.

Tiaga and I tried trading the instrument after one of us placed it too, to no avail. Currently using this trick is the only way to get one on stage and keep it there.
