I thought a /deny macro only worked on someone who was in proximity.

I dunno ........... I like the idea of bringing the crafters and EVERYONE into the cantina for a bit of 'inspiration' ... but ... 10% isn't that much and I dunno if it would seem worth it for people to go out of their way , wait and watch, and then go back to what they were doing.

I'm gonna ask the guild, see what they think.

It does have its limitations--it only works within a short range (actually, seems to work on anyone who isvisible on the radar, so if you just ran to the cantina from the starport, you would be able to /deny people who were in the starport, because they would still exist to your characters perceptions.Obviously it doesn't work for folks who aren't online either. Still, there's something satisfying about running that macro. And I dotend to notice folks who should not be receiving my services, because I so rarely /denyservice to anyone. It takes even morestupid behaviour to get on my /denyservice list than it does to get on my ignore list.

*cheers* WHOOO HOOO *cheers again*

Welll...that sure solves my entertainers MASSIVE cash flow...I mean...why should entertainers be able to enforce a payment for a BUFF???

and lets not even touch on the fact that novice entertainergives same buff as a Master dancer now. (just takes a little longer - big deal)

yay!!! FREE buffs.......after all......EVERYONE tips them so well. *rolls eyes and loks for the 'you f***ed my skills up' button.

(on the plus side...I guess the fact we actually get to KEEP our buffing abilities makes this not as bad as it could have been)

btw way "MASSIVE cashflow" was sarcastic LOL (just in case someone missed that)

since lately almost the only time people tip (even ATK) entertainers in game is for buffs.....and that's cause we make them.

It's even worse for the entertainers, as I now see it as someone playing on TC a lot...

Not only is the inspiration buff completely passive... but the damage multipliers due to level difference severely hampers BF earning. I've played on TC quite solidly and the most battle fatigue I've ever seemed to have earned is approximately 50. I'm still pretty low level, not that far into my elite professions... but it definately seems that oppertunities to earn battle fatigue are currently few and far between... if I face off a creature or NPC of a higher level than myself, the chances are, I'll get one hit incapped... another 2 hits later I heading for the cloner. In the current live system, the creatures have higher damage, (which my armour can negate most of) higher chance to wound and therefore cause BF as it has to hit me far more times to incap me and possibly DB. On the TC, it feels as if the only way people will earn decent levels of BF for entertainers to heal is if they forget to pay their cloning fees or die in space a lot. Considering that the entertainer classes have 3 lines dealing with this sort of healing it doesn't look good at all...

Personally, I hope I'm wrong on this and as people increase in level the chance of accruing BF will increase.

Kara Zor-El - Trader, praying for the miricle failed, still stuck as the arbitrary two professions the devs decided to lump together.

I supported keeping & balancing the Pre-CU combat system. Shame SOE decided not to listen.

This whole passive Inspiration buff is among the most stupid things SOE has come up with. At triple Master the buff is so fast you can barely stop performing or /deny before someone can run in and steal the buff from you. SOE is turning us into NPCs with no control over our functions in the game other than to not play.

Please feel free to discuss inspiration buffs in this thread also.

Inspiration Buffs

An Inspiration Buff will be the replacement for Mind Buffing for Entertainers post Combat Upgrade. Players will have improved XP (experience) gains, improved faction point gains, and increased crafting successes. An Inspiration Buff will be applied in a similar method to the current application. The only change is that to both the entertainer and player the process will be transparent. No action is required from either other than listening or watching the entertainer and the entertainer to dance or play. This is to provide a simple and easy system for both involved.

What is an Inspiration Buff and how long can it last?

Inspiration Buffs are the replacement for Mind Buffing post Combat Upgrade. Inspiration buffs will increase one's crafting successes, faction gains and XP gains. All Inspiration Buffs will have the same effect regardless of whether they come from a Novice Entertainer or a Master Dancer. This means that an Inspiration Buff from a Novice Entertainer and Master Dancer will be the same. The maximum duration of an inspiration buff will be 3 hours. The time it takes to get to this maximum will depend on the entertainer's skill level. A novice entertainer may take a minute to give you a 30 minute inspiration, but the same minute spent with a double master dancer/musician with +25 skill tapes will yield a 3 hour buff in that same minute. The buff is a steady application and not in the old system chunks'. There will be no artificial time listened' breakpoints that have to be met for certain gains. It will be a simple system of the longer you listen the more buff time you will get, up to a maximum of 3 hours. You can even leave an entertainer's session and come back to resume the buff increase without having to start over. (I.e. if you got an hour buff and then had to go to a bazaar terminal for a bit, when you return the buffing session would start from whatever you have currently.)

How does an Entertainer give an Inspiration Buff?

Entertainers will give an Inspiration Buff exactly the same way that they current give Mind Buffs. When a player watches or listens to an Entertainer, each successive "Entertainer pulse" will result in adding more time to the buff in progress up to the maximum amount of time just like the current Mind Buff mechanics work.

What does an Inspiration Buff affect?

An Inspiration Buff will affect the following things::

1) XP gain 2) Faction Point gain 3) Crafting Success

The planned bonus will be set during the Combat Upgrade Beta but it will probably be around 10%. When under the effects of the buff an Icon will show in the buffs window with the duration remaining.

Where can I apply Inspiration Buffs?

Inspirations are applied using the same mechanics and restrictions as Mind Buffing previously did. You get Inspirations in Cantinas by watching or listening to an Entertainer, Dancer or Musician for a period of time.

Inspirations aren't meant to be the sole replacement of the performer's old abilities....we want to give an interactive method for performers to grant buffs and bonuses.

The Q&A

What is being done to insure that Buff Bots will not take over the cantinas again?

  • For now, nothing. Much like the CU as a whole, the Inspiration buff is a foundational system. ...we discussed how to reward ATK performers above and beyond inspirations. The advanced system will grant the audience even better rewards/buffs by a system that requires focused and reactive performer participation.

10% doesn't seem like much of a bonus, shouldn't we get something more substantial?

  • You’re right, 10% is not a major buff. It was meant to be that way. This is your foundational, most basic ability. The idea is that performers with sufficient skill and involving sufficient participation by the player be able to grant better, more desired buffs and bonuses than these.

Why do Novice Entertainers get to offer the same service as a Master Elite?

  • Well, they take much longer in application. (Something that really does matter to our combateer friends.) As much as 6 minutes to give a 3 hour buff, while an elite master can do the same in as little as 60 seconds. The real draw for the elites will come from future abilities.

Is grouping required?

  • No. This is meant to be your most basic ability. ...just as mind wound healing works on live.
Where can I give inspirations?

  • Anywhere you can heal mind wounds in live.

Remember, all of this is subject to change with testing! (so if you don't like it, submit some good feedback here or in the thread with Phydeaux's post.)

I must say, I had not understood it before that the inspiration buffs were a replacement for wound healing. That does change my perspective quite a bit on the subject. It does make me curious to know what will be replacing the other 4 boxes/14 SP for each of the elite professions later on, but I suppose patience is required. A lot of the concerns I had are temporarily subdued with this new outlook, as we are exchanging a passive time sink for a passive bonus, this will increase our desireability and exposure.

I'm still gathering thoughts on all the matters before us, so thats all for now :9

Where as the system sounds fine, and if we can get rid of AFKers, it would be even better, I have arather large worry here.

As a Master Musician, I don't give buffs, I refuse .. ((basically out of protest for buff bots)) ... with this new system I see some things going wrong.

1. Entertainers won't make any credits, and can't make anyone pay for the buff.

2. Entertainers will be a useless profession, since they will no longer be able to make money.

From what I can tell so far, the Combat Upgrade, is going to kill off the entertainment proffession completely. Currently the only way I make credits is doing stat migrations, and everyonce in a while, the small tips I get from people. With this new system effecting ID's as well as Musicians and Dancers buffs, I will probably end up running out of credits after a long time ((I have a nice bank account thanks to stat migrations)) and then leave the game cause it's no longer fun, and I really don't want to have another combat proffession. ((especially since so far from the TC I really don't like the CU))

Time is Everlasting, but our days are numbered.

The reason we originally asked for some way to be useful in-game was because we weren't making much money (since our professions could be 100% AFK macroed). So they added buffs. Once an AFK'er figured out how to buffbot, we were back in the same (and many ways worse) condition as before buffs. By removing our buffs as we currently know them, I don't believe we have been harmed at all, we've simply been reverted back to an earlier state--the pre-buff time. Since the buffbots will be going away as we know them, all we have to do is figure out ways to be more interesting than a random NPC writhing around in the cantina. That I can do. I've competed with AFK macrotainers before and that's easy compared to a buttbot. I won't be making much money since there is such a lack of respect for Entertainers out there, but I'll be making more than I can if I have to compete with a bunch of buffbots.

Yeah, we'll still have our main problem of AFK, but I think our lives will improve with this change.

Panthu wrote a guide for the ins and outs of Inspiring people. HERE's the link, and here's the text:

~@~ Guide to Inspiration Buffing ~@~
Ok, it looks like some people are still confused on how our new buffs are applied. Here's a quick and dirty break down.

.:What's different:.
You not only can buff yourself, you do it automatically whenever you perform in an EH Zone (woot!)
Grouping with or targeting a patron has no effect at all on the process, all they do is watch... period
Your buffing ability is based on your Wound Healing bonus, not your Mind Enhancement bonus

.:What has no effect on buffing:.
If you have anyone targeted
If you are grouped
Your Mind Enhancement bonus
Your Dance or Music Knowledge Bonus
Flourishing (You don't have to do any flos at all)
The dance you do
Any tech FX you do
How much action you spend
Whether you stop and restart
If the person being buffed already has some buff built up by someone else
None of this matters at all...

.:What does have an effect on buffing:.
Your max Wound Healing bonus for the method you are using (Dance or Music)
The Wound Healing bonus you have in the other performing discipline (Dance or Music) up to what you have in the one you are using to buff
Wound Healing Clothes (BE or SEA)
Twi'lek racial Wound Healing bonus

The only skill boxes that matter are:

Novice Entertainer, Dancer, Musician - Master Entertainer, Dancer, Musician - Entertainment Healing I - IV - Dancer's Wound Healing I - IV - Musician's Wound Healing I - IV

Examples:
You will apply a full buff in 6 minutes if you have:
Novice Entertainer
Entertainer 0 0 0 2

You will apply a full buff in 4 minutes if you have:
Entertainer 0 0 0 3
Entertainer 0 0 0 1 with +25 Wound Healing SEA/BE Clothing
Entertainer 0 0 0 1 Twi'lek
Novice Entertainer Twi'lek with +25 Wound Healing SEA/BE Clothing

You will apply a full buff in 3 minutes if you have:
Master Entertainer
Entertainer 0 0 0 1 with +25 Wound Healing SEA/BE Clothing

You will apply a full buff in 90 seconds if you have:
Novice Dancer
Entertainer 0 0 0 4 with +25 Wound Healing SEA/BE Clothing
Entertainer 0 0 0 2 Twi'lek with +25 Wound Healing SEA/BE Clothing

You will apply a full buff in 80 seconds if you have:
Master Entertainer with +25 Wound Healing SEA/BE Clothing
Dancer 0 2 0 0 Twi'lek
Master Entertainer Twi'lek
Entertainer 0 0 0 4 Twi'lek with +25 Wound Healing SEA/BE Clothing

You will apply a full buff in 60 seconds if you have:
Master Dancer
Master Entertainer - Dancer 0 4 0 0 with +25 Wound Healing SEA/BE Clothing
Master Entertainer - Dancer 0 4 0 0 Twi'lek
Dancer 0 4 0 0 Twi'lek with +25 Wound Healing SEA/BE Clothing
Master Entertainer - Dancer 0 2 0 0 Twi'lek with +25 Wound Healing SEA/BE Clothing

You will apply a full buff in 50 seconds if you have:
Master Entertainer/Master Dancer with +25 Wound Healing SEA/BE Clothing
Master Dancer Twi'lek with +25 Wound Healing SEA/BE Clothing
Master Entertainer - Dancer 0 4 0 0 Twi'lek with +25 Wound Healing SEA/BE Clothing
Master Entertainer/Master Dancer/Novice Musician Twi'lek

You will apply a full buff in 40 seconds if you have:
Master Entertainer/Master Dancer/Musician 0 2 0 0 with +25 Wound Healing SEA/BE Clothing
Master Entertainer/Master Dancer Twi'lek with +25 Wound Healing SEA/BE Clothing
Master Entertainer/Master Dancer/Novice Musician Twi'lek +25 Wound Healing SEA/BE Clothing

You will apply a full buff in 30 seconds if you have:
Master Entertainer/Master Dancer/Master Musician
Master Entertainer/Master Dancer/Musician 0 4 0 0 with +25 Wound Healing SEA/BE Clothing
Master Entertainer/Master Dancer/Musician 0 4 0 0 Twi'lek
Master Entertainer/Master Dancer/Musician 0 2 0 0 Twi'lek with +25 Wound Healing SEA/BE Clothing

Bugs and Weird Stuff:
If you stop dancing/watching before the last tick, you actually get up to 3 hours and 20 minutes of duration. If you go the full deal, a hard cap of 3 hours is set.
The EH XP you gain for these buffs is set at 10 per 10 second tick... so as you train up and improve by spending less ticks to complete a buff, you get less XP per buff.

Concept, yes I agree.

IMO it should look more like:

Bonuses are %bonus equivalent to the level of the entertainer.

i.e. from 2% at (a tier 1 box) to 20% at master. (10% is a tease, make us worth coming to)

Buffs, as before, require group or /setperf.
One to all buffs can be SELECTED by the entertainer, vis a vis a window akin to the Smuggler Slicing window, which effectively removes Botting.
Desc.: On session start, possibly manual start required, a window pops up and the entertainer selects one, 2, or 3 buffs to give, and then "commit". This eliminates in-game macro-ing of buffs (however does not prevent 3rd party macros). The number of buffs selected increases the time required to perform the enhancement, say (basetime + .5basetime/buff).

By all appearances SOE appreciates those who bot with a 2nd(or more)account/computer while actively playing on another much more than they do active players who are entertainers because they enjoy playing the profession. There is no reason to play Entertainer actively anymore; we've been granted Furnitrure status. NPC status. However you want to look at it.
