An additional idea for the AFK-entertainment issues is to simply not allow this in your group. The other day, I had a full group of 20 at the keyboard musicians and dancers playing together and getting praised by the patrons inside the cantina. When they asked to join the group.. it was made clear , more xp or not,... you will NOT afk in my group, and they agreed. WE formed one hell of a show.. We had an exotic trio ... about 6 musicians.. and some popular and basic dancers formed up in 3 areas around the cantina..Ya know what else we had? A TOTAL BLAST!!! It is possible! WE just have to stand up for ourselves... YOU WILL NOT AFK IN OUR GROUPS AND LEECH XP ANYMORE!

Xyrdre got the right attitude, all the way =).

Ya last night I got little sleep due to the fact that our troupe in coronet (ON Wanderhome usually a pure AFK place) was constantly full of ATKers. Soooo much fun.

I personally /ignore anyone that spams. I ask my friends that even ask for tips in say or shout or w/in their macro's to stop. But we do designate one person to ask for tips for the live enrtainer grp, which we keep all the members in one tight area of the cantina. Any people I establish as a hologrinder thatSPAMS i add /deny. They wont always be an entertainer will they? /wink. Harsh, perhaps, but my chat screen is a lot calmer.

I do macro. Only when chit chatting with the patrons or other members of the troupe. Sure I'll macro if I go out and have a smoke on the patio, for a drink what have you, but induced afk? AFK to the point you need to add spam msg's or even state that your afk for a long time? Heck you can have a smoke or goto the bathroom or get a drink before auto-afk kicks in. I deal with afk'ers.

One helpful note, to entertainers: Talk with the holotainers too. Most of the people are nice enough, and if your live with a bunch and someone is holotaining? They learn to appreciate, and enjoy the class. And if they stay live? Once they give up entertaining they walk away totally sympathetic, and know whom to support the next time they enter a cantina. Some of the most fun members of our usual nightly troupe are holotainers. And like someone else as said, those people are trying to open up there FS slots, but those avatars they may want them to be the tailor, chef, DE, BH that they started the game to be. And hey, never hurts to be pals with a jedi =).

There are other things outside of entertaining that I want to do, and these current holotainers are the ones who can help me finish combat missions that I aspire too but have no hope of finishing. These are the people I meet now, that wlll help the master musician whom aided them through there holo grinding hell, and they will help me finish up missions to get into jabba's palace. Food for thought.

Just stay positive. =)

I'm in the process of leveling up a character as a Musician, partly live and partly by macro while I'm at work or sleeping. I could care less about opening a FS slot as I build characters to do the things I want to do, rather than simply to add another badge to the collection.

after reading the messages here, I'm kinda torn -- from my own fighting experiences, I'm grateful that you can often find macro'd entertainers in the pub -- there's just no other way to lose the BF. sure, the conversation leaves a lot to be desired, but sometimes you just want to drop the brain-drain and get out to get some more. this line of reasoning prompted me to AFK macro this Musician. I don't ask for tips, until this morning, I didn't ask for healing -- I just stand there and play tunes to entertain whoever may come along. if someone comes in and wants to start a group - great, I've got that covered too -- I've put the "/join" command in the macro so they can invite me and we can support each other. and, I tend to play in the out-of-the-way towns (as I'm writing this from work, the character is (or was when I came to work) playing in the tavern in Anchorhead)

so, am I way off base with this? am I really helping? or am I becoming one of the folks whose toon you'd like to drag into the alley behind the cantina and beat the crap outta?

As a non-entertainer, anytime I go to a cantina, I always run around inside looking for non-afk entertainers and listen/watch them over afk entertainers. I prefer to give them the xp for healing my fatigue/mind than a lazy afk entertainer.

Unfortunately, I seldom find any that are at the keyboard Feels like watching npc's or something.

I hate it though. I admit that I have afk-entertained a little bit but I try to be at the keyboard at least. Its really a pain when either:

1. The group is full of afk'ers

or...

2. The group leader is afk

Those two things really piss me off. Hopefully the new jedi quests will destroy these afk'ers.

Well, your activities whislt AFK are better than most in that you say you're not spamming for tips, heals, or invites, but the fact remains that you are servicing people in a way an ATK Entertainer never could be expected to and therefore are draining at least some business from them, especially if people are coming in and using your /join macro to get buffs.

A second thing that makes you different than most of the AFK macroers is that you've actually read the opposing posts and you have responded without flaming (thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou) which has already shown that you are a LOT more classy than most of the macroers who come through.

So, I'm assuming from your post that you are like the first AFK macroers were.... Yout set yourself in a corner and are as unintrusive as you can be. I applaud you for this; yes I know a lot of people would disagree with me, but the fact of it is, when you're surrounded with people who don't care about the entertainer classes, who spam the cantinas, and who seem to purposely try to make life unpleasent for others, you have to take the least of the evils and hope to find more like it.

That established, I am concerned about what you plan to do after you have mastered musician. It seems like this is a lot of trouble to go through just for a badge and you could be tempted to set up a buffbot to make a few extra credits while you're sleeping or at work. Chances are if you're novice musician or above, people are using your autojoin to violate you for buffs, so in this sense, yes I believe you are definitelyaddingdamage to the profession (even if it is unintentional).

Altogether, I'd say that you are causing damage to the Music/Entertainer profession, but if I could replace every AFK macroer and buffbot with someone like you,I would. Like I said, at least you've given some thought to what you might be doing during the periods you're AFK.

BUT YOU CANT SHUT ME UP WHEN IM ON A ROLL LOL

PiclessSW wrote: Prostitution can be described as taking the pure physical side of making love, turning it into a professional business and making money off it. In the end though, all the passion is gone. That's what buffbots do. They go through the mechanics of being an entertainer, they make money, but there no passion there. No life.
couldnt have said it better myself!

I realize the valuable service Adara provides for combatants.. always available.. yada yada.. in fact ..she and I have had this little banter ourselves..and she was kind enough to edit delays into her macros so that the ATK entertainers could converse with cantina patrons with less interruption...

ButI dont feel the buff-bot profession is something to be commemerated when there are those of us ..slowly grinding,, dancing or playing music at lower levels.. to make an effective and enjoyable show for our fellow-players.. We do have the spirit and soul..! we are not attention hounds..! We just think our hard work.. -doing the job honestly.. (not sluffing it off into a macro while we sleep or work or whatever.). and being there with people while we gain the experience... choreographing flourishes with music...making uniformity in the clothing and artistry of entertainment.. ALL those things are minimized when an afk-buff bot gets recognition.... thats all there is...
