Thread: An idea about afk entertainers...

An additional idea for the AFK-entertainment issues is to simply not allow this in your group. The other day, I had a full group of 20 at the keyboard musicians and dancers playing together and getting praised by the patrons inside the cantina. When they asked to join the group.. it was made clear , more xp or not,... you will NOT afk in my group, and they agreed. WE formed one hell of a show.. We had an exotic trio ... about 6 musicians.. and some popular and basic dancers formed up in 3 areas around the cantina..Ya know what else we had? A TOTAL BLAST!!! It is possible! WE just have to stand up for ourselves... YOU WILL NOT AFK IN OUR GROUPS AND LEECH XP ANYMORE!
Thanks for your attention -

I'm in the process of leveling up a character as a Musician, partly live and partly by macro while I'm at work or sleeping. I could care less about opening a FS slot as I build characters to do the things I want to do, rather than simply to add another badge to the collection.
after reading the messages here, I'm kinda torn -- from my own fighting experiences, I'm grateful that you can often find macro'd entertainers in the pub -- there's just no other way to lose the BF. sure, the conversation leaves a lot to be desired, but sometimes you just want to drop the brain-drain and get out to get some more. this line of reasoning prompted me to AFK macro this Musician. I don't ask for tips, until this morning, I didn't ask for healing -- I just stand there and play tunes to entertain whoever may come along. if someone comes in and wants to start a group - great, I've got that covered too -- I've put the "/join" command in the macro so they can invite me and we can support each other. and, I tend to play in the out-of-the-way towns (as I'm writing this from work, the character is (or was when I came to work) playing in the tavern in Anchorhead)
so, am I way off base with this? am I really helping? or am I becoming one of the folks whose toon you'd like to drag into the alley behind the cantina and beat the crap outta?
Well, your activities whislt AFK are better than most in that you say you're not spamming for tips, heals, or invites, but the fact remains that you are servicing people in a way an ATK Entertainer never could be expected to and therefore are draining at least some business from them, especially if people are coming in and using your /join macro to get buffs.
A second thing that makes you different than most of the AFK macroers is that you've actually read the opposing posts and you have responded without flaming (thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou) which has already shown that you are a LOT more classy than most of the macroers who come through.
So, I'm assuming from your post that you are like the first AFK macroers were.... Yout set yourself in a corner and are as unintrusive as you can be. I applaud you for this; yes I know a lot of people would disagree with me, but the fact of it is, when you're surrounded with people who don't care about the entertainer classes, who spam the cantinas, and who seem to purposely try to make life unpleasent for others, you have to take the least of the evils and hope to find more like it.
That established, I am concerned about what you plan to do after you have mastered musician. It seems like this is a lot of trouble to go through just for a badge and you could be tempted to set up a buffbot to make a few extra credits while you're sleeping or at work. Chances are if you're novice musician or above, people are using your autojoin to violate you for buffs, so in this sense, yes I believe you are definitelyaddingdamage to the profession (even if it is unintentional).
Altogether, I'd say that you are causing damage to the Music/Entertainer profession, but if I could replace every AFK macroer and buffbot with someone like you,I would. Like I said, at least you've given some thought to what you might be doing during the periods you're AFK.
