um why don't you try to ACTUALLY play something instead of grinding out xp with flourishes back to ack to back. I can play (only without using special effects) for hours without ever sitting. This is also without a healer present, because I don't feel the need to just grind out flourishes.

Brent;

While this is good advice from an artistic point of view, you're overlooking something important. Many, many entertainers start out in some other profession and take up entertainer later in life. That means that their stats are optimized for some other activity and, as likely as not, they'll have some problems keeping themselves going for any length of time during a performance. I started life as an artisan because I wanted the crafting kit and scanners out of the starting gate. Later on, I found in the cantina that I was resting twice as often as anyone else there. It wasn't from spamming. I was an entertainer all through beta and I know how to handle my music properly. It was simply that, as an artisan, my stats were all optimized toward mind instead of action. I had to do a few days worth of stat migration to get my character optimized towards physical instead of mental pursuits.

I don't ask for heals while I am dancing. I have a few regulars who will come in and heal the entertainers to practice, cause they like us, what ever reason.

The only time I ever wish I had a healer is when I am the only entertainer in the cantina and people are watching me and I have to sit down and take a break. I feel bad for them.

So sometimes we want heals not so we can "grind our exp" but so we can help those watching/listening to us.

I can sympathize with that on a couple counts..first that patrons are losing healing time ...there are many nights when I'm the only perfomer and can't take turns out...but these times I just don't perform flourishes when others are around...beyond that Dancing takes down your action a heck of alot quicker than musician for even normal play......this is why I tossed away my dancing shoes.

Easy solution for that: Go to the medic trainer and buy novice medic. Cost you 100cr and 15 skill points. Now you can target yourself (Ctrl-1) and type /tenddamage. You'll heal yourself 50-100 pts (more if you actually work up your medic skills a bit) at the cost of a bit of fatigue and mind wounds. Just /tenddamage until you're fully healed or you're out of mind,then go back to dancing. It cuts downtime tremendously, and the fatigue and mind wounds get danced away. I'm always surprised that hardly any entertainers seem to do this simple trick.

Be a Rodian. My rodian entertainer (eeyo on the valcyn server) has never had a problem with the action bar because he regenerates it so much more quickly than others. So much so that I even took a hefty slice of action and passed it to health

Well, I know that I XP grind for dance (still need dance4, and footloose is quite possibly the worst dance ever), but when I'm playing music, I can last for a few hours without stopping. Just space out the flourishes and it's fine. I'm a wookiee so I don't know how the species-based refresh acts. I just play to have fun, and personally, dancing isn't very fun. Something about an 8 foot tall wookiee doing rhythmic 2 for an hour.... Oh well. I don't particularly like some of the lower songs anymore (10hrs of starwars1 gives you a headache, less time if there are more people flourish-spamming) so when I'm forced to change to a lower song, I just turn off my headphones.

Open up your options dialog and look for either Audio or Sound (can't remember which they call it). In that screen, there should be, at the very bottom, a slider for Player Music. You can run it all the way down when you're tired of hearing SW1, and still hear the muted fzzzaap! of blaster bolts outside the cantina, as well as all the rest of the wonderful sounds in the game without having to suffer through a few more hours of StarWars1.

I know there is a slider, I had to turn it up before (for some reason it defaulted to "off" when I installed the game). I'm just lazy so I take off my gaming headphones (big FPS fan, need some nice, loud'phones) and set them around the joystick. If i see the song change, I may pick them up again (or if I see I'm nearing a new skill and want to hear that glorious thunder-crash)

Speaking of stats, I didn't apply any of the bonus points when I made my char (wasn't familliar with the game yet and missed it). Where do I go to do that now, if I still can?

Shaylen,

If I remember correctly, they set up a pretty good default set... but you can use "Stat Migration" from your character screen to make them whatever you want. Just adjust the sliders and the stats will slowly head in that direction. (To avoid confusion, it is sometimes best to adjust these when you are unwounded until you get the hang of it)

Thanks, Oversight (hehe, appropriate name to give me advice on my oversight).

I'll give it a try.

I chose a Twi'lek as my second alt, who is an aspiring Musician, Novice Medic, and Novice Scout. I migrated all of my health points to the Action pool, and the two associated pools underneath. As long as I space out my flourishes about 20 seconds apart (I do the two flourish thing), I pretty much never need healing.
