Automated machines work by setting them up and starting them. No need to hang around.

Managers work by delegating work to subordinates. No need to hang around.

Macros work by setting them up and starting them. No need to hang around.

All works on the same principle, minimum effort/maximum reward. People don't need to hang around and watch stuff being done in order for it to be done.

LOL! If you think that is true, you've obviously never managed anyone (or managed them well).

AFKing is not entertaining - support real entertainers

I think we've well established that this discussion has become hypothetical, not practical.

In practice, I could make the point that raw capitalism is going to kill the economy. This is why the US provides for anti-monopoly litigation. I could point out that pure capitalism is identicle to pure communism.

I could point out that Jason is the funniest troll I've seen. His AFK macro was funny.

Or maybe you've just never managed a good employee. I know they're hard to come by at McDonalds.

Once again... another thread spins off topic and onto the heated debate...

Regarding automation, and capitalism, and the 'doing a better job for cheaper' line of thinking...

Some of this may be true, but the question is whether or not the intent is to allow the entertainer professions to be replaced by machinery. If SOE/Lucas's take is to just drop the professions, then things can proceed as they have... and might as well just create NPC entertainers everywhere and call it a day. Or drop the battle fatigue thing entirely, which I'm sure some people would adore.

On the other hand, if they were serious about the inclusion of player entertainer professions in the game, there is clearly a problem to address. Obviously, the people who like playing entertainers lend some validity to the idea of having the professions around.

JasonK, you've been very active of late in supporting AFKing and bickering with others about the entertainment stuff in general. I'm just curious as to why? What is it that you like so much about the AFK entertainers? How do they help you out? I'm not flaming, I'm genuinely interested because I think I have a pretty good grasp on the feelings held by the anti-AFK camp, but perhaps I don't understand the other side's perspective. And in trying to figure out a good, workable system to get us past all the back-and-forth, I'd like to know what people have to say in favor of AFKers.

He's stated his opinions before. In a nutshell, they are always there when he needs them, they don't bother him with conversation, and they get the job done just as well as an ATK entertainer or, in some cases, better because their higher XP puts them at better heling numbers.

Ryyger pretty well summed it up.

Also, entertaining professions are boring so I wanted to suffer as little as possible while mastering them, and buff bots are always available when you know where somebody runs one.

Jason, you forgot to draw conclusions. Why do you play a multiplayer game when you don't want interaction?

Stupid assumption that I don't want to interact with people like you so I don't want to interact with anybody. Fortunately people like you are the minority.

I never said you didn't want to interact with everyone, I asked why you are avoiding interaction. And rather than an answer you provide an excuse. What are you hiding?

If you don't seek interaction with 'people like me', why do you hang around boards where 'people like me' are in fact a majority?

Sure sounds like you said I didn't want interaction.

Somebody has to keep the other side of the story up so the devs don't cave to the incessant hining.

So, your opinion is paramount. Rather than allow people who pay to play as entertainers to do what they want without the harassment and degrading effects of AFKers, you have taken it upon yourself to 'correct' the devs that it is better to essentially wipe out the profession and replace it with bots.

Get over yourself allready.

If somebody is harrassing and degrading you go ahead and report them. I couldn't care less how you choose to entertain anybody and you're the one trying to force your play style on everybody else here, not me.

As for the devs, I don't need to "correct" them on anything, I think the system they have already created is fine the way it is.
