Thread: Idea for an AFK fix
Automated machines work by setting them up and starting them. No need to hang around.
Managers work by delegating work to subordinates. No need to hang around.
Macros work by setting them up and starting them. No need to hang around.
All works on the same principle, minimum effort/maximum reward. People don't need to hang around and watch stuff being done in order for it to be done.
LOL! If you think that is true, you've obviously never managed anyone (or managed them well).

I think we've well established that this discussion has become hypothetical, not practical.
In practice, I could make the point that raw capitalism is going to kill the economy. This is why the US provides for anti-monopoly litigation. I could point out that pure capitalism is identicle to pure communism.
I could point out that Jason is the funniest troll I've seen. His AFK macro was funny.
Regarding automation, and capitalism, and the 'doing a better job for cheaper' line of thinking...
Some of this may be true, but the question is whether or not the intent is to allow the entertainer professions to be replaced by machinery. If SOE/Lucas's take is to just drop the professions, then things can proceed as they have... and might as well just create NPC entertainers everywhere and call it a day. Or drop the battle fatigue thing entirely, which I'm sure some people would adore.
On the other hand, if they were serious about the inclusion of player entertainer professions in the game, there is clearly a problem to address. Obviously, the people who like playing entertainers lend some validity to the idea of having the professions around.
JasonK, you've been very active of late in supporting AFKing and bickering with others about the entertainment stuff in general. I'm just curious as to why? What is it that you like so much about the AFK entertainers? How do they help you out? I'm not flaming, I'm genuinely interested because I think I have a pretty good grasp on the feelings held by the anti-AFK camp, but perhaps I don't understand the other side's perspective. And in trying to figure out a good, workable system to get us past all the back-and-forth, I'd like to know what people have to say in favor of AFKers.
Ryyger pretty well summed it up.
Also, entertaining professions are boring so I wanted to suffer as little as possible while mastering them, and buff bots are always available when you know where somebody runs one.
If you don't seek interaction with 'people like me', why do you hang around boards where 'people like me' are in fact a majority?

Why do you play a multiplayer game when you don't want interaction?
Sure sounds like you said I didn't want interaction.
Somebody has to keep the other side of the story up so the devs don't cave to the incessant hining.
