o ok i get it, i thought that base melody line was something that appeared as a system message the same way the 'you are doing a flourish' message appears. i was confused cause i never saw anything other then the flourish and musican XP messages.

Just need to play an instrument. If she started as an entertainer at creation, she probably has a fizz in her inventory. Just equip the fizz and type /startmusic starwars1. If she doesn't have a fizz, she should go to the bazaar and see if there's one for sale or ask another musician if they can make her one or know where to find one.
As she progresses she will learn new songs and instruments to play.

She'll have to be performing flourishes to actually get any xp. Starting up the music won't do it alone. (And the starter instrument's a slitherhorn, drygo
).
The same commands to do flourishes in dance are the ones to do it in music (she's apparently doing flourishes in dance, since she's getting xp there). If she's doing the flourishes, and is not getting xp, there could be some weird bug on her. She could try logging and retrying, and if that doesn't work, get some help from SOE.

bah! I forgot the flourishing part. And, well, it's been a long time since I've been novice entertainer so I forgot which came first as well, apparently.

Just in case you need this info, though I doubt you're not aware of it by now, there are ways to increase the amount of music (or dance) xp you get:
- Performing in a group with other actively performing player characters -- if they're standing still because they can't write a functional macro, they're not helping. But as long as the other members of the group are either dancing or playing (basic loop counts, don't have to flourish) there is a bonus to the amount of experience you get per flourish.
- Perform your highest level dance, song or play your highest level instrument -- there are two spots in doing Music where this may be problematic (Entertainer Musicianship II and Musician Musical Knowledge I) because you get a new song, but no new instrument. Because you are required to play the same song as the rest of the band members, at those two points you may not be able to optimize your experience gain.
- Audience members -- for every player character that is watching/listening to you or any other actively performing group member, you get an experience bonus.
- Emoted Encouragement -- if a player is watching or listening to you and performs the emotes /applaud, /cheer or/clap on you, there is a very brief experience spike.
- Crafting Instruments -- you actually get Music experience for crafting musical instruments. To make the slitherhorn, fizzz or fanfar, you can use a Generic Crafting Tool. To make any of the other instruments requires a Droid, Weapon and General Item Crafting Tool. Resource quality doesn't matter. The first two instrument schematics are gained in the Entertainer Musicianship tree. Everything after that is in Musician. Fanfar and kloo horn are in Novice, and all the rest of the instruments are in the Musician Technical Knowledge tree. Crafting instruments isn't a very effective way to level past Musicianship I or possibly II. Should you decide to do it anyway, remember to set your crafting tool to Practice Mode (last screen of the crafting process).
Hope that helped, if you need any other informationsend me game mail to Starsider.Tarot. Welcometo the Galaxies and I hope you continue to enjoy being an Entertainer.
