Hey, so an update and a question/request.
Update: I did in fact drop down to novice musician (and got trained several times to bleed away as much xp as possible), and have started the long climb back up (and wow, had I forgotten how slowly it goes
Anyways, a question/request. As I was IDing a guildmate of mine, I heard on our ATK channel that a band was forming. This is one of the big reasons I got into the profession in the first place, and so I quickly expressed my interest (and hoped hoped hoped that they wouldn't require only masters

Wow. I'm impressed. I think you're crazy, but I'm absolutely, dead serious when I say I have the utmost respect for you, Sciponius.
I hope you enjoy the trip back up! Since you've done it once already, you can be a good source of information for other rising musicians.

Funny thing about this
As a separate update, I've reached musical knowledge I and musician's battle fatigue healing I by now, with sporadic music playing. I've found that I've overcommitted myself in the game now lol, as I'm a guild co-leader, I just joined a band, I'm making sure I'm available for two newb friends who just joined the game, I'm supposed to get a pink av-21 as a pre-requisite for marriage for a girl I'm courting, and I have my cantina by the sea in my player city (thankfully, the city is not yet on the map, meaning the city residents don't spend much time there yet. As soon as we get on the map and with a shuttleport, I'll be in even more trouble trying to be more available there lol). So among all these things, it's hard to squeeze in too much time in the cantina before I'm pulled away by something or other. Which is fine, as I feel it makes me appreciate my time there more, since I don't have time to get bored by any tedium of downtimes
Anyways, I'm having a blast in the game right now (because of the people), and I'll be taking pleasure each time I get a new song or instrument to play with again
Thanks for all the support everyone

As an up and coming previously master musician myself, I think that it's easier to appreciate what I have instead of yearn for what I'll be getting. Not that I did that much before, as musician was just because I had tons of excess music xp from playing the mandoviol. As a result I've been taking my time and enjoying myself the whole way. Other people have been zipping past be to master, but that's okay. I can have just as much fun as a non-master as I can at a master. I even took the road less travelled and went up Technique first, so I could start spreading my name by making instruments, not to mention the cool pyrotechnics. I usually play the mandoviol, and rarely the musician songs (At least until Jazz) because I'm playing the character as "Too cool for the slow music", and musician is slow music until Jazz and Virtuoso.
I try to get the message out that people should take time to have fun on the trip, because it's the same game when you're a master. Some people get it. I see people without even novice musician having a ball. Some people don't, and find themselves masters but miserable.
And taking your time helps you appreciate the journey.

A new update! It's been a while since I told people what's been going on with the penance.
Not yet done, but making good progress! Some of my commitments in game have slowed down a bit. Sadly, I have seen my guild leader in-game very rarely (I think a total of 3 times) in the last month, and most of the other guild residents quite rarely as well. I fear the dissolution of the guild, as I wouldn't feel right taking it over myself. In any case, I haven't had much of my time taken by that, and the two friends I've been helping out have been playing slightly less often as well (and have been growing beyond noobdom), so I've had a lot more time in the cantinas.
And out of the cantinas! An aspect of the whole penance thing is that I'm not only personally aware of playing the profession to have fun ATK and not just for levelling (I had been aware of this as I was reaching master and reading the boards), but I'm also much more proactive about spreading the word. I throw in some comments about the badness of AFKing to the ents I meet in the Theed cantina, but more than that, I try to rally them to have fun ATK. One fun example of this recently was my successful attempt to bring everyone from the Theed cantina to the hotel. Just the change of scenery, and the reactions of the patrons (who were directed to the hotel by my droid, temporarily called EntsAreInTheHotel), kind of woke the group up, and we partied hard that night (and at one point I went to recharge the droid, and there was literally no-one in the Theed cantina.. the AFKers who had been there woke up one by one and realized that fun was being had, so decided to play).
As for numbers, I'm now at 3043 in the musician tree. As I've been spending a lot of time playing music outside the cantina, those healing numbers are dragging. But that's ok, cause I'm having tons of fun. My greatest joy was when I got the techniques box that let me craft mandoviols again
. My instrument crafting has been the part I've most missed since dropping to novice, but it's definitely picking up again, and the regulars are once again pointing to me when someone needs an instrument
.
The hawtpants have lasted well; since I knew I would need them to last a long time, I've been taking very good care when washing them. I also took it upon myself to work out, since I'd have my body quite on display, and the ladies have become very appreciative of how I look in the hawtpants. I can't say as much for most guys, who cover their eyes quite often when I wave to them to come be entertained at table #6.
The journey this time has been much more of a blast then the journey was last time, even the parts of the previous journey when I was ATK. I'm glad I'm doing this penance, and I'll be superbly honored when I can raise the Master Musician title once again.
Until next time!

Wow. All I can say is "wow." You amaze me, I am impressed, and I MUST say congrats! This thread prompts me to confess that Crymsan (who was a master dancer for a time) also leveled quite a bit afk. -shrugs- It was when I was new to the game, and didn't realize how much it hurts the entertainer professions. I believe my experiences were quite similar to yours, in that no one ever pointed it out to me. Well, I won't be doing penance, since Crymsan dropped dancer, and Shyjade has been leveling completely ATK (well...except for the half an hour yesterday when I jumped up to let the cat out, and wound up making dinner instead...oops). In my case, I guess you could say I dropped all the way to novice entertainer :-) Although doing it on a different charater is..cheating, I guess. Enough about me. I must once again say "wow" before logging off to get back to real life. (Real life? Isn't this real life?)

AFK is how people are taught to play these days. As long as it is so prolific, that will continue to be the case. The entertainer profession, possibly more than any other, is taught by the community. The lessons used to be varied. Now it's mostly just a macro. There are masters amazed to see synchronized dancing.
Fortunately, many are open to learning when they discover there is so much more.

I MADE IT!
My penance is over
. My hawtpants are shelved (for now.. there are people on my server who don't know what I look without them, so they need to be put away at least for a bit while I dress in more varied ways), and my title is proudly up!
Tonight I finished the last of my healing xp, polished up the nalargon, went to the theater and got my mastership degree back from the blue guy.
I spent some time on the nalargon, trying out western on it. Forgot to play virtuoso though.
Anyways, I can now claim I made Master Musician completely ATK.
Thanks for the support through my penance. Oooh, I've gotta change my sig, I just remembered
