I've never put up covercharge because I thought it was useless, but maybe I should have. I just have to tell you, I've gotten as many tips whenI was AFK as I have when I was ATK.

I actually think people are scared of ATK entertainers because they feel like they'll be expected to talk to them, or tip them because they're actually active and watching the customers! They'd rather watch an AFKer and not have to deal with the whole conversation bit. There are people who will tip someone for a service and there are people who won't. People of they type that will tip people, will tip someone who's ATK or AFK. Someone who won't tip, won't tip you even if you no matter what.

So, no, I'm not offended by someone AFK covercharging. I'd just do what you did, go to the next entertainer and watch them instead.

LOL... I have never heard anyone suggest this before. I can't imagine it but I wonder, how do they deal with the REST of the game, e.g. having to group up to do much of the new/higher end content (Shadowlands anyone?), if they are that socially inept?

I am all in favor of players playing while they dance or play music.

I am also all in favor of AFK botters. They serve a very useful purpose.

Take Dantoonie. There are usually about 3 to 10 afk entertainers there at all times. Players know this. Players RELY on this.

Players come to Dantoonie to get buffed before heading out to other planets or into space to get inspired.

Many players tip the afk dancers and musicians so that they have a monetary interest in being there for them. I am not an entertainer but I do tip AFK entertainers.

Why?

So that the next time I come to Dantoonie to get a buff, some one will be there to buff me!!

I used to play an entertainer and would spend my money to go out to out-of-the-way places to AFK for the people on those planets.

But now that anyone can fly for free, it is much easier to go to one place, that you can count on to get healed or inspired.

That is why people do and should tip afk dancers.

Not necessarily inept. As an example, I play SWG with my spouse, from the same room, having a running conversationt about what's going on in and out of the game. As such, that's my primary social experience in SWG, and a rather pleasant one.

When I visit the Cantina, occasionally I feel like text chatting to see what's going on. More often than not, though, the Entertainer has little to say that I can relate to ( don't want/need to learn how to do the Entertainer profession, not really interested in role-playing, not interested in joining a guild, etc. ). As a result, conversation with the ATKs is typically short-lived if I even feel like participating.

However, I do support ATK players, as I feel they're good for the game. I'll choose an ATK over an AFK 100% of the time, even if we don't exchange words. Typically I ask "Any entertainers not AFK?", and if there's a response, they get my attention and a significantly larger tip.

And I never use a cover charge Entertainer, ATK or AFK. Aside from the "too far away" bug, it's insulting. If an entertainer doesn't want to allow me to choose a tip based on my current financial situation and expected benefit from the buff, then I don't care to patronize them anyway.
