It simply astounds me that so many of the same people that railed against the bot owners and jerk patrons for so long are the same ones telling those of us who are upset over the removal of our primary role from the game to quit. Did you quit when the bot owners told you that same nonsense? No, you didn't. You just made posts to the board and offered suggestions on how ou thought the situation could be changed for the better and bitterly complained in post after post.

That's all. It's just very simple to me. I play what I like and can't imagine paying to play something I don't.

Umi hit the nail on the head. There is a gradient between "This rocks and is flawless" and "this is so bad it's time to quit." If you put the former at 10 and the latter at a 1 on a scale of 1-10, then I would say right now entertainer is probably around a 4... if that. It's way below where it once was for me, but it's not low enough to quit the game.

I've seen it slowly drop from 10 to 4 over the last 2 years, and I'd rather not see it slide any further, because if it does, I likely will quit. I won't change classes with Dejah. She's designed to be an entertainer. If SOE makes that suck, then that's it... account cancelled. Again we are not there yet... that's a 1, and we're at 4... So there is still a ways to go.

However, I'd really prefer it if, on a scale of 1 to 10, I could rate my entertainer experience as a 9 or a 10, instead of a 4. So I come on here, perhaps stupidly since the devs have shown they listen about as well as they would with stone for ears, and continue playing the game, in the hope that somehow, it will turn around and my satisfaction with the profession will go back up.

In the mean time, don't expect me to be happy that the devs have made my experience, on a scale of 1-10, go from 9.5 to 4. It might not quite be cancel-worthy yet but it is certainly worthy of complaint.

Unfortunately, Tiggs made it quite clear today that no more was going to be added and that they were going to focus on fixing bugs.

They took away your raison d'etre with a promise that it would be replaced soon, then they change focus again and say new content is being postponed (but not postponed, rather they're just not working on it 'till the bugs are fixed. How that's not postponed is beyond my ability to comprehend).

Actually, Tiggs stated (and reiterated) that they were now going to be focusing on bug fixes, with long term, more gradual inclusion of new content. She did not say there would be no more new content, she basically said bug fixes are now top priority, and new content will be stretched over a longer period of time.

Which is GOOD, because this game is horribly bug-ridden lately, and the chat boxes getting reset at each login, all of my options getting reset constantly (profanity filter on???? hadn't been on since the 3rd day I played, suddenly my keymap was busted, profanity filter on, graphics settings all jacked up, sounds reset to various levels).

This game is full of bugs and annoyances that I started playing WoW just to see what it's like in other games...know what I've seen in WoW? Every so often, I get stuck while looting in a kneeling position, and then it corrects itself. Aside from getting booted occasionally and the odd server crash, it's far more stable than SWG.....and again, that's more stable WITH server crashes.

They NEED to focus on bug fixing right now - they let it get way out of hand.

entertainers, as all theo ther professions, is made for you to have fun with. if you like what you're doing, why quit? if you prefer a healer's role, doc might be a better choice now.

Yes, we do agree on quite a few things. To me, it seems very simple. If you like it, choose to stay. If you don't, move on to something else. I've tried all kinds of professions. The way I look at it, I've got a subscription. I have no plans on leaving. So, why not try all kinds of things? I feel that you can't truly respect or know what a profession is going through, unless you take it up yourself. And then *play* it for a while. I'm re-doing MID for the FOURTH time on Sti-fi. I drop it easily, try something else. I never know if I'll find something I like better, unless I try. Well, Jedi. I have zero desire to be a Jedi so I don't bother trying that.

But yah. It's simply. Like it? Keep it. Don't? Don't keep it. YMMV.

But, player feedback causes all professions to constantly be evolving.

The odds are that the people complaining and upset over sweeping changes to professions represent (most likely) a significant amount of players who are playing this game who DON'T post on the forums.

Just saying, "Oh well, this profession was fun but now I hate it, with what they did to it," in silence, does the game and the community no good whatsoever. Posting something like, "Hey, I loved this profession, you changed it, I think it sucks now, and here's why" is useful for the Devs. The odds are....that person isn't alone, and they may be saying what others are either afraid to say, or just plain quit the game outright because the profession they loved got "borked" and there's no reason to keep playing.

This game is always changing based on player's feedback (contrary to what some people believe).

If the player's just jump ship and change professions when something they used to love get overhauled, how will the Devs ever know what really works, and what doesn't?

Entertainers were a healer support role in this game. They are now no longer part of this role.

I don't think it's very cool to say, "Oh well, it changed - if you like it, stay. If you don't, hit the road, or stay and deal with it," in so many words.

The bottom line is, is this a fun/enjoyable game experience to you? Do you feel rewarded for your gameplay? If yes, stupendous. If not, why not? And, there's no reason why people who absolutely love a new way of things can't get additional stuff THEY don't use, but lets others find the profession more appealing and fun.

Known to few, when i gave up the entertainer part in my main character, i at the same time built up a seperate char with Master Musician and Master Entertainer.

By now i can say, i have more fun in the cantina with the char than ever before. No more spamming robots, no more people who just come to you as they are forced to and clearly show that they consider the time in the cantina to be wasted...

I admit, there were never more than 7 people in the cantina, for most of the time we were 5 people. This surely sounds very underpopulated, but on the other hand, all people around were ATK, ready to communicate and actually (*gasp*) roleplaying! This never (really) happened before as long as BF still existed, the forced visitors and heaps of spam just killed any immersion and in-character conversation. (Some "backwater" cantinas excluded, i met some nice musician group in Bestine more than once already while BF still existed, i'm currently speaking of the mainstream cantinas of Coronet and Mos Eisley.)

For dedicated roleplayers, this actually is a chance they were waiting for... i come from an old-time MUD and i think now the community here has the chance to develop into something like it was in the MUD, too. According to my observation there, the community basically split up into these cathegories:

  1. combat

  2. roleplay

  3. politics

  4. cybersex

While there were some people just getting onto one aspect of the game, a good number found their way into two or more of them and the second and third usually were well connected. (I personally followed the first three paths there.)

In SWG, you currently have the firstgroup massively developed. The secondfaction could use a bit of support, but the real problem is not the state of the game (i saw some good roleplaying on a RPG-server of the game Freelancer, which basically is a space-flight"sim".) but rather the state of the community. The quota of people who don't roleplay at all is very high, at least on my server, and i dare to state that a good number of those people, if their life would depend on it, would not be able to play the role of their character, as they never even spent a single thought on it, while investing hours into how to make the best out of the 250 skillpoints available. Though, by not forcing interaction of non-Roleplayers with Roleplayers any more, the second group, at least in my eyes, now has some "save ground"where they can develop and grow and also get those who walk the boarderline to find their way into true roleplaying without the notorious immersion-breakers ruining it again and again.

The third mentioned direction you see in terms of guildwars and similar stuff, and while being present, they still could use a good deal of help, but this is not the topic here, and the fouth i know little about, i once got a few emotes of that cathegory into my window, but prefered to ignore it and move on.

Oh, and as a sidenote, i personally can't even say that my income as entertainer really decreased. Sure, the number of patrons got less, but everybody who entered the cantina dealt with the one and only entertainer group there as the bots were not present any more.
