Thread: On Control: The Price We Pay to Name Our Price

I really don't care which way it's done as long as it makes sense from both sides. I used to be dead set in wanting active. I came to see the benefit of passive.

Performance Entertainers need ways to make money, reasons to interact with other players, things to do, and encouragement to put on real performances. How much those four things are related to each other or to buffing doesn't really matter to me.

True active buffing would be just like Doc buffing - no location restriction, no state required, just point and click. That works fine for Docs now because it's not all they do... it's not even the main thing they do! It's just something nice they can do for people during downtime or while they're out with a combat group.

That's total control.

They can ask for payment first. They can give it away for free (I do). They can buff people with out even being asked (I do this too).

It works fine for Docs, because they now have no cost for buffs and it's not supposed to be their main gameplay or interaction. They have a plan for gameplay and interaction, active uptime healing.

So, this would work fine for us too, as long as we had all of ourbases covered (other ways to make money, other reasons to interact with other players, other things to do, and other encouragement to put on performances).I personally would prefer buffing to become one thing out of many other things we can do or just something nice we can do but not totally tied to all of our reasons to exist in the world and everything else that we do.

Buffing really is fun as a main role aslong as it can be done full out and is tactical - like SLs were meant to be originally. If that can be applied to a non-combat support role, that would be neat. Short of that though, buffing is always go to be better suited to being part of a prof plan, not the main plan. It's what we've got though, so I hate to push that point too much until we have some other things that aren't buff related.

I don't know that we ever will be given anything else other than buffing though, so I understand why people focus on its mechanics so much. We just don't have anything else and honestly, we've never had any indication that the Devs are interested in doing anything else. This is a very new and specialized segment of the game to be throwing a lot of energy into. I mean, I think it's worth it, but the bean counters may not and I'd hate to talk them out of the little bit we do have and are scheduled for currently.

yeah i know there is a potential for group leaders to grief, but, then again, anyone can grief in this game in a number of ways. i doubt that that would really be a major problem since the griefing of some players is also not what i see a lot when i am in the cantina. just because it *can* be abused, doesn't mean that it will be overly abused. that griefer would have to be dealt with just like any other griefer would be dealt with. i doubt it would be too huge a problem since i used to see that epople were even afraid to kick LD players from groups in cantina in the old days.

We must have all had this problem at some time or other. I put a call out to my guild, a few are Ents too, so there is usually one or two to lend immediate support. As CL55, I'm not entirely defenceless if the person is a lower CL than me, but I have found that a show of support is usually enough to get them to back off.

I have never used /deny or /cover and I hope I won't have to. But if there was some mechanic forejecting and preferably temporarily banning offenders from the cantina, that would be excellent.
