Thread: The Grading of AFK playing

On Infinity, I am one of our customers. My home is near coronet and when I go to the cantina to heal my mind wounds ( as CM having an all black mind bar is a common sight after a buffedmind-healing experience ) I do feel contempt. I go into the cantina and it's filled up with people. No one is greeting me. No one is talking to me except to get a tip or heal while AFK. I don't want to have to work out who is online. I will watch the first person that is dancing. If I feel ignored after a minute or two, I use the downtime for biological breaks. When I get back, I check my chatlog. No one talked to me. I stop watching and consider tipping. I just spent 2 hours earning cash and I will not waste it on a bot that is performing game mechanics.
But you shouldn't feel contempt for the all Dancers and all Musicians because some are AFK or unfriendly. I mean, if I was caught with a TEF and a CM of the opposite faction came and poisoned me, then proceeded to send me nasty griefing tells about how he/she 'pwned' me, I wouldn't say all CMs are asses, or even that the faction is. I KNOW there are some people out there that are idiots. I won't take it out on the whole profession, faction, guild, whatever.
The Live Entertainers are doing the best they can under the circumstances that we're in. We have to compete with players that are NOT entertaining, and hurts our reputation. Please don't feel contempt for those that are trying, that's all I ask ![]()

As a discussion thread I think it might be worthwhile to understand the uses behind the AFK toggle.
5) AFK profession, used by master to perform an ATK procedure using macros. Primarily used by performer and doctor professions. Commonly known as buffbots.
Thanks

I have absolutely no problem with this as it's already becoming a pain in the rear to find professionals who are willing to help you out. Take Armorsmiths for example, how many are willing to crank out a few suits of ubese armor for you when it's much easier and more economical to run and sell only composite armor? Also, how many times do you have to wait for 20+ minutes to get a buff from a doctor only to find out that his "2300" stats only meant one of your pools gets buffed for 2300 while the rest get 2000? Entertainer buffs are about the hardest to find most are either AFK, grinding, or no longer in the game.
As for buff bots, once again there is absolutely nothing wrong with them. If I spend the money to build a buff bot then I can do whatever I please with them. I don't have to buff anybody nor am I obligated to interact with others. Nothing bothers me more then people who basically demand that since my alt's account has "Mastered the Doctor Profession" that I am required to provide a buff for them at their price. That's an automatic /addignore with a statement about how I am not required to buff them nor is anybody else. Currently I'm finishing off yet another alt to master musician so that my guild will have access to both musician and dancer buffs as well as doctor buffs.
When on guild hunts Ialways leave the entertainer up and running during the time we are out running missions or exploring. I usually park the account in the local cantina and have it set as the group leader so that we can add players as needed. While this account is up and running you will not get an AFK message nor will it display the AFK tag but will provide basic healing services to those who pass by. Yes, at times I will /deny service to players and especially overt enemy faction members as I am not helping feed my opposition.

During off-peak hours, there were few peeps to buy my wares, so a credit dupe is almost a neccessity for peeps who need credits at 4am. Unless... YOU want to be up at 4am buying stuff... didn't think so.
Obviously, there is a shortage of night owls. Fewer people to group with, fewer docs... live with it. You don't encourage AFK docs, AFK brawlers or AFK bounty hunters. Why not, I can't find one at 4am...
On Gorath, my home server, maybe half the population is german. 4am at your timezone is noon here. There is always someone online, either US or Europe. If your concern is support, a single entertainer in a cantina is enough for every need. 40 people in Coronet botting is not needed. Not even at 4am.
This is comparing apples to oranges. AFK bots aren't killing the game nor adding tothe fluctuation of currency as duping does. As a fighter class I have no skill points dumped into Medical or Entertaining so I must relay on those who are around to help me. Most of the time the servers die out around 3 am to where all you see is the normal players or maybe the occassional new visitor from another server. The worst thing to do is go around looking for somebody to help you out. Bots allow for you to get healed up and either set for the next day of grinding (work/grind it's all the same) or to clear up the battle fatigue you've received from playing.
Something to look at, if all the AFK bots were gone how many cantinas would have an entertainer in them? Also, one of the most boring grinds is entertainer/musician/dancer as it's low paying and you have to put up with rude players. Half the time many players don't want to chat so all you're doing is sitting behind the screen in a zombie like state drooling all over the keyboard endlessly clicking on flourishes if you're not running a macro. This is not a way to play a game and I doubt many would enjoy sitting on the rears for endless hours in one spot (cantina) and getting asked if you can give people money, buff them or any other demands that players come up with.

Actually, they are.
If I want to go and earn a little money offering people buffs, I can no longer do so. Buffbots give them out for free. So, not only is a source of my income gone (killing my gameplay) but offering them for free stops the money from flowing (fluctuation of currency).
This statement you made is completely false on both counts.
