Thread: Pub.23 Can't buff myself anymore...

Great, now I will be the only one without an Inspiration buff when we are hunting... As the only entertainer in our bunch I picked the short straw again. Hm, docs certainly can't buff themselves anymore as well, huh? Another entertainer nerf. Well sure, we are the most powerful class of all, we deserve to be nerfed.
Sad.

I haven't heard that the devs have responded to any of the concerns raised on this topic, so I'll resort to totally uninformed speculation.

My gut feeling is that they removed self-buffing for two reasons:

The first is that they want to force artisans to go to the cantina to get the buff. If you could self buff, the benefits from the new buffs are great enough that many artisans would pop the skill points into novice musician and just pull out the slitherhorn whenever they needed a refresh on their buff instead of going to an entertainer to get it.

The second is that they haven't figured out how to avoid the conflict between the passive buff and the active buff. Notice how a patron with an active buff gets it overwritten by the passive buff if he casually /listens to a musician. Musicians are always "listening" to themselves, so the same thing would happen to us if we self-buffed. The second you started playing, your general music buff would overwrite the profession buff you had given yourself by "watching" yourself dance.

Since the obvious solution to this last problem is to eliminate the passive buff, we can only conclude that the devs have some unknown reason for wanting a passive general buff even if it causes as many problems for musicians as it solves.

Although it would effectively make afk play pointless (which is good), I don't know ifthe ATK entertainers can handle giving out active combat exp buffs to every single player grinding exp. I really like giving out the crafting buffs but I don't think constantly giving out combat buffs would be fun.

....

Ever since the CU people have complained that the basic inspiration buff was "worthless" and "no one wanted it."

So which is it?

TH said yesterday that he was going to try to find out the details for us and post when he got them. I PM'ed him today reminding him, and he read it, so we'll see what happens.

They need to get rid of passive buffing or change how it works. It should NOT be the case that after you get buffed from a dancer for a specific buff, you can't go near another entertainer or watch another performance for three hours or risk losing your buff. That's just not acceptable.

The simplest solution has already been said here. Get rid of passive buffs...
Once again did they change the system without even thinking about the possible implications.

Greetings,

Entertainers, Dancers and Musicians will not be able to buff themselves with Inspiration Buffs.

Here's why:

On the game side of things, basic Inspiration Buffs come early. The concern is that folks can take just a few basic skills to buff themselves and the Inspiration Buffs provided by dedicated Entertainers, Dancers and Musicians will not be in as much demand as they should be because other players will be able to do it themselves.

While I understand that it certainly isn't as convenient as it would be tobuff yourselves, other players will want that same convenience for themselves. They will buy a small amount of skills for the convenience and the demand for your Inspiration Buffs will drop.

Simply for thesake of discussion: conceptually, the idea of the buff is that your character is "inspired" by watching a fantastic entertainer perform for you. Inspiring yourself by entertaining, dancing or playing music is certainly possible, but it isn't typical.

For the sake of discussion...

I don't necessarily disagree, but the ability to do thatis one of the things that makes them truly great. Not everyone can do that.
