just visited the Theed Cantina... and i saw one big group of AFK entertainers.... so no chance for me (who really wants to play this prfession).

so will there be more room for "Real" entertainers after Holo-AFK-Entertainer-Grinding?

will i have a chance to make my musik, and will i get more connections, to permanent listeners?

what do you think?

thanks for reading

If you happen to be on the Bria server, there is a huge group of LIVE entertainers of all skill levels at the Theed Theater for Entertainer Awareness Day. We'd love it if you stopped by and joined us.

If you are in need of a waypoint, contact me, Doasa, or Kitsuney in-game.

please explain why there is NO CHANCE for you. what do you mean by that?

what would you do as a "real" entertainer that you cant do with the AFKrs around. What do they prevnt you from doing. how do they ruin it?

it would seem to me that it would actually give you an advanatge since you would be the only "real" entertainer in the town.

or is it that since the customers heal and leave and dont really pay attention anyway, there are no other entertainers for you to chit chat with so you get bored wiggling alone in the cantina

While I cannot speak for him, I say it's the same for all entertainers meeting Holotainers: No gain of money or respect as the services are offered for free by a large group, no fun since no one is around, yet you cannot suit the cantina to a solo performance as there are 30 other people in a wild mix of dancing and playing, no people to train but a lot who want training and go off seconds thereafter, taking the knowledge without giving it back.

i mean, that i got/have no chance tohave a nice conversation with spectators or to have pernament specs, who asking for me if im not in the Cantina. or something.

there is just one large group of Holotainers, and Holofighters are getting in for a view seconds to get mind healing.

i think "Real" entertainers are these guys who really want to play this Profession. and who want to entertain the Listeners.

im Dreaming of the time where was a small group of Musicans and some Dancers in the Cantina, making Thair show, and one or Two cheffs were walking arround, taking Food/drink orders from the customers.....

Personally,I am holding onto a few tattered shreds of hope that the entertainment profession will revive with the end of the holocraze.

I freely admit that I am new at the whole aspect of RPing and online games and if I didn't have my online friends (andfamily) to keep me going, I'm not sure I would have made it this far. . . However, for an MMP game therecertainly are a lot of people playing it who not only avoid any real interaction with other players unless it suits their needs for that exact moment, they resent that they have to endure the interaction at all. They also seem to resent the simple fact that there would dare to be other people who enjoy interacting on a social level within the game as though we have no right to it.

Onlylast night there was a fellow guild membergrumbling in GC about how our "live entertainer only" cantina was too far away from the hub of the city to be of any use - when you couldrun to it in less than a minute's time from the shuttle! Fortunately, others came to our defense andquite a few of them quickly arrived just to show their support.

I don't know if the entertainment field will return to the way it was in the "glory days" before hologrinding. . . I do hope that it will regain some amount of respect again from the other players. Who knows, perhaps it will even "evolve" into something better than before!I do believe that it will be up to those of us who remain, and to the new ents who come up through the ranks, to take our profession to its next level - regardless ofhow little love we get from the dev-gods. . . .

EDIT - Of course, you'll notice that I wrote this BEFORE I read the thread about the dancer/musician buffs being increased by 2 minutes!!!!

I find that despite the fact that there are Macrotainers all around me I can still do my job well enough as an entertainer. I will admit that I focus on the female audience more than the males but that is a personal thing . As for what will happen? Most of what will happen will depend upon you and the other entertainers to come. Friendships is what will make a band stay and truly have fun. I believe that as long as you are having fun the audience is of no concequence. Buffs will always be an income even with the Macrobuffers. Many people will search out for a live person to buff them despite having the Macrotainers around. I think there is one main step that many entertainers and macrotainers miss. I will fail at this myself but saying Hello to people as they come in is important to some of them. They will gladly tip you just for being there and more important it gives you and them something to do. People prefer to be interactive in online games most importantly in Cantinas and Med Centers where they expect it the most.

Well, don't let me burst your bubble, but I'm not as positive as you are.

Before the holocraze, AFKers were ubiquitous. It was made worse by the holotainers, yes, but it was an issue we had to contend with before people discovered what those little blue boxes meant.

The difference between pre-Holo and post-Holo is that people are now used to bots. They dealt with bots all the time (I'm including non-AFKers too, because some of the holotainers were not entertaining at all). They're going to expect bots. There are people who bought second accounts in order to do these bots.

People won't AFK in order to be a Jedi. They'll AFK because they're too lazy to find their own Entertainers. That's what they started doing before holocrons became a big deal.

I hope you're right, but I've seen more and more proof that most players of SWG are too lazy to play the game. They just want their rewards now, now, now! And they'll buy second accounts in order to accomplish that.

Love Star Wars, but the few role-players I could find on the servers were outnumbered by powergamers who wanted only l337 l00t and mad skillz. I can't justify paying $15 a month to play a game by myself.
Still cares enough to interject an opinion, though.

Of course, most of the female toons are actually played by slightly confused long-haul truckdrivers named "chauncey" anyway.

Every time I log in I'm terrified they changed the game to Dance Dance Revolution without telling anyone after holding a "focus group"

I started out as a musician, played it the fun(aka hard) way, only in eisly, no flourish macro, it was the most fun Ive had in the whole game. Gave up master musician a few months later 'cause of the afk situation, now im picking up master musician/ent again because it looks like more people are starting to actually talk in cantinas, Im already having more fun than i have in months

i'm female and turned the tables with a second account, my alt isa male dancer lol

oh yeah and this is actually voluntarily heading up the entertainer tree, just trying different things, no holocron or anything. i've been afk and i've found myself in a group with 20 all either afk or LD. when i'm at my kb it can be fun and if not thats ok too. But all afk groups are not really doing their job per se .. none of us is playing the same song or synchronizing in any way. it'll be cool when i do level up and find some ppl and actually figure out what i can do in this profession because right now i'm not really sure. but until then, guess i'll just flourish all over the cantina hehe

I am positive that things will change when the hologrind is over. I don't know if it will ever go back to the "glory days" either. But, I do know, that anyone who is taking up entertainer when the hologrind is over will actually want to be an entertainer, which is going to be revolutionary. lol. Granted, there will be a small percentage of people who will grind afk to get to the top as fast as possible. And, there will be a small percentage of people afk grinding as second "mule" accounts. But, I honestly don't think that will be the majority. While you go into a Cantina now and 75%+ are afk, I'd be willing to bet that when the hologrind is over, that will reverse. And, even if it's only 50%, having that many people ATK is going to make the Cantina experience much more enjoyable than it has been since the hologrind took over. Even now, I see little trickles of people giving up on the hologrind, either because they have their jedi or they think it's too close to the revamp to even bother. And, more and more I go into the big Cantinas and I'm seeing things change ever so slightly. There are now more people to talk to in the big groups. There are actually a few less people taking up floor space. And, believe it or not, I have seen *many* people over the last couple of weeks, patrons of the arts if you will, *complaining* about all the afk'ers and practically worshipping the ATK'ers. And, I don't know about anybody else, but I've actually been getting more tips recently. I think things are changing, I can feel it in the air. lol
