Thread: AFK macros that spam for tips and/ or attention

While in an entertainer group the other day I happened to make a comment about having to put so many AFK entertainers on my Ignore list because of their unreasonably short pauses between their spam fortips and/ orattention (I wonder how many of them have tried to chat w/ me or ask for training only to have no reply returned though they see me talking to others in the group). I was rather suprised by how many other entertainerscommented that they do the same.

Ok, let me ask how many of you do this when you needBF healing.

You walk into a Cantina, first thing you do is look around for the highest level dancers and musicians, you target themto /listen and /watch because you don't want to sit there for the half hour or so that it would take a Novice Entertainer to heal you.

At times I might feel generous and start examining the young ones to see who's new and who's not (look for mastered skills and badges). You find someone that looks like they could use some coin and you flip them a few thousand credits because you remember what it was like when you first started the game.

It seems to be the general concensus that spammers actually do more harm than good to themselvesbyspamming "witty comments" every 31 seconds.

I opened my Ignore list the other day, WHOA, do you know what a pain it would be to remove them all one by one?

The other day in Theed there was a ATK pretty ladydancer in group spamming for heals and tips. When asked to please stop, her response was, she's not spamming because she is ATK and it is part of her macro andsupposedly it is so much helpful and polite (in her opinion) to do so. Needless to say about half way though her tirade she joined my /ignore list.

So it is not just Zombies who spam, unfortunately

I never really understood the point of begging, beside it being degrading to the character it only gets them ignored.

I don't /addignore people on the whim and therefore it is really sad that 99.9% of those gracing my ignore list are other entertainers.

As for people preferring to /watch /listen to masters for healing, well it only makes sense, since we heal in a fraction of time a novice does. However most masters I know always join the cantina group so whoever is in the group does get the healing exp and everyone is happy. The combat person gets healed fast, the leveling entertainer gets the experience.

On topic...yes, I hate spam. I have, in fact, withheld training from spammers unless they take it out of their macro.

As for who I watch or listen to...Of course, I could do it all myself and do if I'm under time constraints. However, at the end of my hunting time I generally like to go to Theed, because that is the place you will most likely find ATK dancers. And, basically I watch or listen to people that I know don't afk, or someone who is giving some indication that they ATK. They don't have to greet me, or talk to me or anything. They could be having a conversation in spatial with someone else entirely and not even acknowledge my existence. Masters or Novices, I don't care. As long as I know they're atk, I will give them the benefit of getting healing experience and a /tip.

I beleve its time for SOE to bring in some spam controll

I play'd MCO(MotorCity Online) and they had spam controll that would not let your message threw if..

1 It was the same message within a few mins

2 Different messages back to back to back (Exp: 5 lines of chat going out within secs - Macro'd)

3 Weeks later they took out macro messages alltogether

Im not barking at all Entertainers and only Entertainers but, this is getting way outa controll

Luckly there aren't many spaming entertainers in the cantina's Iuseally go to but yes I add them and any other from of spammer that repeats too often onto my ignore list,I like to be able to talk to other people in spatial.

For healing BF I prefer to watch a non master who is atk and needs the xp, or if none around one of my friends. If none of those are around I'll dance it off myself.

I loved that in MCO. Made talking to people about things far better.MCO was a great game as well. Maybe SOE should look at what happened to MCO. The devs added cars people didn't want in the game and subscribcriptions were canceled, then the game died. It wasn't a long drawn out death, died in less than 6 months after the 2 new unwanted cars were added in. I dropped my account because of that, as did the rest of my friends.

I hate spam as well and I'll add ignore any one who spams the same message whether they are ATK or AFK. If I'm in a group and someone joins and starts spamming, I'll leave the group. (yes indeed I am a hardcore b----. /shrug it's just the way I am).

I'm with Drygo on who I'll watch or listen to if I need healing. I usually stand on the steps of the cantina for a few minutes to observe the entertainers. If I can see they are ATK, I'll listen or watch them and then tip. If they aren't I'll take my usual spot on the side and heal myself. I never look at the entertainers' title unless I am looking for a mind buff.

My ignore list seems to grow a lot every time I go to Coronet!

- Neeill Orkaorchi, Elder Entertainer/Elder Musician, Intrepid
- Nai'ren, Trader, Intrepid
- ATK and enjoy your day

Thats the reason I don't go to coronet, I'm not sure if my ignore list won't crash the SOE Dbase

Usually if someone in my group spams, I'll ask nicely in groupchat first to stop spamming. If they're ATK they usually listen to the argument that most people in the cantina will simply ignore them for spamming instead of tipping them, and that actually talking to them is a better way of getting tips.
If they don't stop (either because AFK or just to stupid to understand what was told to them), I'll /addignore and if i'm leader of the group kick them. Bye bye. If they stop spamming, I usually take them of ignore again and invite them back (well someone has to tell me they have stopped )
If I'm not leader I might ask the leader to kick them, or simply ignore them.

I ignore spammers, and in my experience spamming for tips and heals will do more harm than good - I usually ignore those, and assume they are afk.

Spam is the devil. If I'm running the group I ask them nicely to remove it from their macro a couple of times, explaining that all it does is get them on lots of peoples ignorel. If that doesn't work I tell them they will have to leave the group if they want to do it, and they either stop, leave the group, or get booted. Harsh but I rarely end up kicking them. Most of the people I group with regularly feel the same.

Spam is probably the most annoying thing in this game.

Go to Coronet or Dantooine Mining Outpost, and your chat box looks like a slot machine tumbler.

I usually politely tell Entertainers that they'll probably get more tips by not asking for them...when was the last time a waiter/waitress asked you to tip them?

Tends to do the trick.

Also, as far as wanting to give newbies healing xp but wanting the speed of a Master...try clicking on a newbie and seeing who's in their group. Everyone in the group will get the healing xp. So watch or listen to a Master in their group, and you're still helping the newbie. Make sure they're ATK and give them a nice tip. Or take the tip you'd give the Master and split it in half with the newbie.
