Heya folks
here might be a suggestion for those of you with droids w/ playback modules (esp if the droid only has 1 playback module):
a tip for recording a new track for a song in progress that the droid's not setup for.
1) recharge droid if necessary (duh) and make sure its grouped with you
2) access the droid's playback mod, delete the track
3) equip your bandfill (or whatever instrument you're recording, but NOT the omni or nalarg, due to the targeting issues)
4) start your droid's recording
5) start the band (if applicable) or just yourself
6) keep playing, eventually your droid will 'finish recording your track'...DONT stop playing yet
7) start the droid's track that you just recorded
8) NOW you can /stand to stop your instrument and switch to the instrument you really want to play, you'll have to wait a bit of course, but there will be no interruption of the bandfill because the droid's carrying it on
this can be useful in a group or if you're doing a private duet with your droid (for buffing or whatever) without having an ugly break in the beat.
forgive me if this has been posted before, but 1) this is my first post and 2) i dont ever see anyone using this technique, so it can't be that obvious.

I record omni to my droid all the time... It's really quite simple.
- Call your droid
- Group your droid (of course making sure it has a good charge)
- Select the track you are going to use (delete an old one IF NEEDED. You don't have to delete an old track if it's the same song and instrument that you are thinking about recording!)
- Chose the record option from the track menu if you need to record the song and instrument
- After it says tht the droid is now recording select your intrument and /startm selecting the song you wish to record (unless the band is already playing.) An omni or nalargon can be used with no problems because you won't need to target the droid again until after your recording is complete.
- Once your recording is saved then you can stop playing and switch instruments. Just remember to select the newly recorded track on your droid and press playback to get your little helper to play with you.

I use this technique all the time
.
One problem I imagine though, when I'm dueting with my droid (or when I'm the person in the group being listened to), is that even if the droid continues playing while I switch my instrument, since I was the one being listened to, the listener will still have a break in the music. I think I've noticed people stop clapping when I do this, for example.
Ah well, can't be helped I guess.

In regards to the tageting on the nal and omni: I have untargeted my omni box by accidently clicking on a chair, but i clicked right back on the box and i did not stop playing. Has it always been this way or is it just my imagination?

It takes a few seconds to stop you.

To be more specific about it, the game will stop you only at the end of your current flourish or non-flourished-musical-section. At the end of any measure of music, if you will. If you feel you'll need to be untargetting a lot for whatever reason, you may wish to choose a song with long measures, such as ballad.

Well, you've gotta wedge a screwdriver into the side and push the module really really hard into the slot on the back. It requires a lot of force, and the module may crumple a little bit, but that's expected and shouldn't ruin your droid at all...
But in reality, a novice musician must craft the playback module, and then a droid engineer must craft a droid using the playback module. Many DE's keep them in stock and will sell droids with the modules in them, or you can ask them for custom orders. But there isn't a way to get a playback module into a droid that's already been crafted.
