Thread: Marching band? [ NEW SPECIALIZATION IDEA: COMBAT DRUMMER / BUGLER / PIPER]
Probably already been suggested but couldnt find anything on it...
[ COMBAT DRUMMER / BUGLER / PIPER]
It is always pretty tough to wait until a good scout sets up camp before we entertainers can make a difference... so just thinking a bit further... why not think of something new?
To make entertainer more 'alive' in the field why not make a squad leaderlike thingy into the profession that gives entertainers to the option to become more valuable in the field?
Everyone knows in all great battles the music was used to relay signals to the army in battle. So why not have an entertainer gain an extra use in the background of the battle for certain groupbonuses to the PCs in the party.
Advanced use could mean adding signalling to the group but that might be hard to implement without replacing squad leadership. Maybe an aide de camp function or something?
Ok just my 2 cents...
And yeah i know i am a n00b and such...
Greetings to all that play this lovely game of SWG,
XXXiphos on Farstar
Jack Of All Trades, Master Of None
"The Smuttmeister"
An idea that's been proposed a lot, but last indication is the devs have no interest if doing something like that with entertainers.
First off thanx for the welcome... been lurking around for a few weeks or so, and just had this idea pop into my mind.
Ahhh BARD, i knew it had to be in here somewhere... was looking for the perfect word there... ;-)
Yeah something like that i assume.
Sometimes not being a native english speaker sucks... ![]()
But no not quite like a squad leader, more someone that inspires the group by being there doing what they do best, playing music. It could give certain bonuses to being part of the group and would give entertainers a way of earning more money than just by waiting for tips to come in. While the real squad leader has options to "guide" the team, the bard or whatever u wanna call it is more of a support character like a medic, but more for the mind.
But hell if it has been suggested and isnt quite accepted, i'll go back into lurkmode... :-)
I still have heaps of fun doing the normal brawling / scouting act as well.
And i must say, been an FPS-clanner for most of my gaming life but i love the SWG community far and far better so far. Thumbs up to the lot of youz.
Since we have more than 140 skill points left to spend after mastering dancer or musician, I do not see any need at all to make dancers or musicians more combat capable. I would hate to have bards playing war songs in star wars - enhancing a group is the squad leader's job anyway, they should get all those "group buffs".
I don't want to be a bard either, but I wouldn't mind a "ceremonial" marching band. Why shouldn't one be able to march through the streets of Bestine or Anchorhead playing patriotic tunes, or do halftime music at a swoop bike race, complete with funny parade stunts?
Also, I'd personally like to see us entertainers have the ability to make craftable holostims that heal mind damage (not mind wounds) in the field. I don't think that would cast us into the role of bards; more like record or video producers. ![]()
Well, now, Tiaga, you know it all depends on the type of music. Some music can and does wake the dead, other music will put you to sleep, and other music may make you *wish* you were dead. So it's not totally a stretch.
In fact, I think a musician should be able to inflict mind damage from afar by, say, playing a bit of easy listening, or perhaps some old Anne Murray. Musak in particular should cause instant maiming. Might give some use to those speakers people can get in the game.
On the other hand, a good techno beat might quicken the pulse. Some music, if exciting enough, could wake someone out of unconsciousness.
If they're smart, they could link the system into the iTunes store so musicians could buy a song for $.99, pop it into their virtual iPod (created by artisans, of course), and slap it on a fallen comrade.
The possibilities are endless. Think how pleased the RIAA would be, and hey, anything that keeps you on the good side of the recording industry gestapo is a good thing.

Pickles, you're killing me! You know, some of us read this from places where we would get funny looks if we suddenly burst out laughing.
On a similar note, when the guys come along that bring my sexuality into question because I dance, I have to wonder, shouldn't I be inflicting mind wounds on them if they are so offended by it, not healing them? (Though that hasn't happened in months now.. I guess one good thing has come out of the hologrinder craze.
)
It's my goal in life to get as many people fired as I can, but honestly, that vibrator in the shoebox on your desk is more likely to get you a pink slip.
"On a similar note, when the guys come along that bring my sexuality into question because I dance"
I don't understand, lots of other women dance and never have their sexuality called into question...
Don't hurt me...it was a joke...
We're both going to get banned.

Theres a fine line between genious and insanity. So does that mean theres a fine line between banned and promoted? Who knows, maybe we'll get banned, maybe they'll decide one of usshould be the new correspondent.. We don't have a new correspondent yet after all... Yes that's it! Then they'll have to listen to our insane rantings!
Besides, the shoebox isn't on my desk, it's in a drawer that only I have the key for. Of course, facilities just has to look up the number and order a new key, but that's besides the point.
