Everyone can do basic and rhythmic... it costs 15 Skill Points and is called Novice Entertainer. *shrug* I hear what you are saying, and to an extent I agree with it, but we don't really need even part of our professional uniqueness given away.

I think it would be great if non-entertainers were at least able to do one or two of the basic, low-level dances.

There is nothing more frustrating than going to a RP party and not being able to join at least with a little bit of dancing.

Of course, all instruments, special effects and higher dances would beexclusively availableto entertainers, as well as the ability to heal mind wounds etc. (I'm talking about giving all characters basic1 dance, perhaps footloose1, too. I do not want to create rival skills to the entertainer profession, this would be for socializing purposes only.)

What do you guys think about that? I believe it would not be too much work for the devs to give everyone 1-2 dance certifications and the startdance/stopdance ability...

So basically you're saying that you do not want non-entertainers to join a party with a bit of low-lvl dancing?

Sounds a bit strange to me... like "I don't want everyone to be able to use that lowbie dance I've never used again since novice entertainer"... with opinions like that, the R in MMORPG will forever be gone *sigh*

Well, the question more I think becomes if you give everyone say up to Footloose for no skill point cost, then why do Entertainers going up dancehave to spend skill points for the first three dance boxes? What then replaces those dances for the skill point costs?

In the dancer forums, from time to time we've discussed similar things, but more from the perspective of having a dancer ability added where we could temporarily train a non-entertainer in a low level dance for just these kinds of situations. Something along the lines of a quick buff, perhaps, where I could dance basic 2 at you for 3 minutes, and afterward, you would have basic 2 for the next half hour, without any healing abilities of course. Think of it as a crash-course in dancing, buta lesson quickly forgotten?

Something along these lines would allow non-entertainers some access to simple dance steps for events without taking anything away from the Entertainer profession.

That would also be a nice solution to the problem.

Perhaps I shouldn't have mentioned footloose as it is a ?tier 3? skill... I was thinking about rhythmic 1 and basic 1, the ones you get at novice entertainer. I think no one could complain about that... you're not taking away anything off the entertainer profession. Almost no one uses those low level dances if they've got higher skills, and additionally, as I said, those non-entertainer dances must not have the ability to cure wounds... that should be exclusively limited to real entertainers.

Or just extend the /dance a bit. That emote is too good in my opion as it is today. If anyone can move like the /dance emote they should be able to do most dances. Maybe make /dance a more realistic and basic non-professional dance.

Another option I would love to see is partner dancing. Any dancer can target someone and do a waltz or box step dance and lead the non-dancer through a partner dance.

[edit] By any dancer I would this is novice entertainer since as master entertainer who isn't going to do dancer I would love to lead a partner in a paired dance.

We've brought up partner dancing many times. Unfortunately, the code (as it is) just can't handle it. You have to figure in height differences, species, server/client lag, etc. For an example, look at the new animations for /hug and /kiss between two differently sized characters. My girlfriend and I play side by side, IRL. I can't tell you how many times I thought I've walked rightup face toface, only to look at her screen and see myself standing on her, or still 2-3m away.

I think the best that can be accomplished with this is a /bandflo on one of the exotic dances. Of course, that's assuming that both dancers have sufficient skill for those dances.

It would be nice to see the basic /dance animation changed to something other than a 5 second version of Formal2. Maybe a 30 second version of Basic1, with the text changed from 'You dance about the area', to 'You dance in place', or 'You dance a while'.

Actually, I do use them. Or did, rhythmic was turned into total garbage with the JtL changes. And I am a big roleplayer, but there has to be some reason for us to have to spend more skill points than a Teras Kasi Master, Master Rifleman, etc. and giving away what we get for nothing doesn't seem to be the way to go about adding value to the least valued professions in the game. That's all I am saying. I mean, what next, you want to be able to /sing too right?

Geez, you seriously seem afraid of becoming jobless...

What about a jedi knight that has spent all his skill points?

Do you want to tell Anakin "No, you can't dance with Amidala, because you don't have any skill points left!"?

Ok, that is exaggerated, but I would like you to see my point. I think giving everyone something else than the stupid /dance emote would encourage roleplaying and socializing. If you prefer to have everyone AFK in the cantina as it is now...

To answer your question:

Everyone should be able to sing a song, but how can you ensure a trained entertainer is better at thatthan a normal player? Maybe by adding some funny things like randomly capital letters or sometimes a few consonants extra so the actual singing becomes a bit amateur-like?

Ooh... don't even try to pull the Jedi trump here. That's just begging for comparisons on who's getting the dev love, and who's getting the shaft...

A few flourishes should be possible... however, they should be the most basic looking ones.

No air jumps etc., those should be limited to entertainers.

This has been suggested a few times.

My personal preference is that /dance should be a toggle that non-dancers could use which would trigger the BASE of basic, i,e, stepping from side to side and swinging arms a little.

They should not, in my opinion, be able to flourish though. If they do then they can invest skill points.
